  1. His velocity has Anderson salivating.
  2. Honestly our team would still have been miserable if we had Garza, Bartlett, and Ramos those seasons. Bartlett was terrible his last season and out of baseball last year. Ramos would have been a back up catcher and Garza is not nearly enough to make up for the ineptness of 4/5 of the roster. I'd say we maybe get up to 74 wins once. The thing that kills us is that we didn't have Garza and Bartlett when we (and they) were actually good.
  3. These are the most realistic predictions for Mauer that I've seen.
  4. If everyone else does their job it doesn't matter what Punto does.
  5. It's funny because they are almost complete opposites in every way. Puckett was engaging, affable, and vocal. Mauer is bland, subdued, and introverted. Puckett was not very sabermetric-friendly due to his lack of walks. Mauer's best attribute is his OBP. Puckett is regarded as one of the most clutch players of all-time. Mauer doesn't have a signature moment. Puckett has two world championships. Mauer has zero postseason wins.
  6. I don't trust this team to draft anything of quality unless they have a top two pick so I say go for it!
  7. “He said, ‘Andy, you are going to love him,’ ” Anderson said. “He works his tail off. He’s a gamer. And he battles.” I hate him already.
  8. The thing that absolutely bothers me about the "Jeter flip" is that it is considered one of the greatest plays of all time. Does anyone remember THAT VERY SEASON when Hocking made an even better play? It was at Fenway and Craig Grebeck hit a foul pop. Mientkiewicz darted back and pop slid for the catch and then bounced his throw to Hocking (who had raced over from his position at shortstop). Hocking turned and fired a strike to AJ to nail Varitek. Of course you can't find a single clip of that play anywhere but for my money's worth it was far more impressive than Jeter's. The fair ball catch by Jeter where he ran into the stands five steps later is the same thing.
  9. Since when is 185 innings an innings eater? He averaged less than six innings per start which, by definition, can't even be a considered a quality start.
  10. It's not that he was too aggressive. It's that he signed mediocre players. Nolasco is an improvement but that's not saying a lot. Hughes and Pelfrey do not help this organization win games.
  11. What's hilarious is that Gardy openly shuns platoon's but does everything in his power to make sure his relief pitchers always match up with the opposing batter. Why not go through five relievers every single game?
  12. And in this case Florimon is Ponder and Escobar is Freeman. Or is it the other way around?
  13. How is his attitude? Does he "get after it" and "play the game the right way"? Those are the only things worth considering.
  14. Maybe he won't run out a ground ball and we'll need to teach him a lesson.
  15. I don't think anyone is really against this signing. It just makes you sort of roll your eyes since we have also signed Bartlett and Kubel and there are still the Johan rumors.
  16. YES! That is exactly what I thought when I heard the news. Or Guardado 2008.
  17. We're also forgetting that as mediocre as Morneau was he was STILL our second best hitter last year.
  18. There was an article yesterday about Bartlett and Kubel's return and Bartlett said, "Tyner called me up the other day and asked if there was an old-timer's game. Where do I sign up?"
  19. Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN talked with Twins manager Ron Gardenhire yesterday and was told the team is circling back with one more notable free agent. "[Assistant GM] Rob [Antony] just called me the other day and told me they were gonna make another run at a guy, and I'm like, 'Wow that's pretty good,'" said Gardenhire. I certainly hope Guerrier isn't the guy to make Gardenhire this excited.
  20. I love everything about the open. The prologue, the intro music, Pat O'Brien's mustache. CBS received a lot of flak about their sports coverage but no one got you jacked for a big game like they did. Their football intros were always amazing too.
  21. I would bet that Mauer is being projected for typical catcher regression, even though he won't be catching anymore. Aside from that, I don't think losing another 90 games is outlandish. I don't think we've improved very much at all. I am not a Hughes or Nolasco fan at all. I don't really expect Hughes to be better than any of the garbage we've been running out there. Nolasco is better but I would think the improvement from having him would be offset by regression from Correia, Fien, Swarzak ,Thielbar. The offense remains putrid and lost its second best player. Ryan spent money this off-season which is good, but I don't think the team is improved. I'd predict the same record as last season 66-96.
  22. Jose Offerman can be the pinch hitter. I don't believe for a second that Casilla was a loose cannon. Throw Knoblauch in there. Redmond is back up catcher and Ortiz can be Gardy's coveted third catcher. Third base is pre-born again Gaetti. I would say Cabrera over Guzman. The rotation is brutally mundane. For some reason I enjoyed Livan's aloof indifference. If the goal isn't to win games, get Pig Unit and Frankie Rodriguez. Romero is the loogy.
  23. It's gotta be Punto or Butera. Those are the only players that would make Gardy say "wow".
  24. Good, I'm always down for another analyst that ****s on pitch counts.
  25. I'd rather have Garza than Nolasco and Hughes.
