  1. I don't know that you can chalk up Baker as a misdiagnosis because of the Tommy John surgery, they didn't decide to do that until they opened him up. I'm curious as to whether most veteran pitchers look like they could use a new ligament when you get in there.
  2. What many people don't realize is that every time the Twins get to the end of the rotation, it takes Gardy an hour and forty-five minutes to figure out who comes next.
  3. Wait...so it IS outside his control? You seem confused. No, FoxNews, I don't. Two consecutive posts that resort to personal insults. I'll take that as a concession. I'll take that as an apology.
  4. Wait...so it IS outside his control? You seem confused. No, FoxNews, I don't.
  5. Okay. Hey, I'm just agreeing with your post. You're the one who said it's not outside his control. It's inside his control in that it's reflective of his ability. It's not an outside factor imposed upon him. I don't mean to imply that he could hit 30 home runs with a minor swing adjustment, Mr. Walters. If Mauer could hit more home runs or extra base hits, he would. I have no evidence for this, but I think he would like to hit more home runs, and I also think he knows what he is doing, because he seems to be pretty good.
  6. I think you meant "he doesn't hit for power." He hasn't once reached 60 XBHs in a season. Not even 2009. He's currently 5th on the team in XBHs. Never driven in 100 runs in a season, over 90 only once, despite hitting 3rd most of his career. Some of that you can chalk up to things outside his control...some of it you can chalk up to a passive approach and being perfectly content to slap the ball softly to left. By all means, put your fingers in your ears and your hands over your eyes and sing "la la la" every time a legitimate criticism of Joe Mauer occurs if you wish. That doesn't mean there aren't legitimate criticisms of his approach to hitting, depsite the fact he gets on base a lot. No, I meant that he doesn't hit home runs. High RBI numbers come from home runs, almost exclusively. I don't see how that is outside his control.
  7. I'd agree. He was clearly tapping into irrational bull****. Go watch a movie about baseball. I think you'd be better served.
  8. Guys with a lot of RBI hit home runs. You know why? They get one for every home run. They also get one for every guy on base when they hit said home run. Stop complaining that Joe Mauer is Joe Mauer.
  9. "I told one of my employees to do my job" is not a valid excuse.
  10. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't hit home runs.
  11. I'd be mostly concerned about the fact that aside from his elevated home run rate, he's having the same season as last year.
  12. I always thought this was a bit dumb in the old place, why not just make this a football forum?
  13. What a load of nonsense.
  14. Nobody forgets that, it's just irrelevant. Those teams could pitch. Regardless, going into the season with two nearly guaranteed black holes as your best options at two positions exaggerates the likely reduced production of guys at other positions who are having upper limit seasons, especially Plouffe and Willingham. This lineup will quickly become one with three or four holes.
  15. The reason the Twins won the Central fairly regularly was because they had good pitching and the ineptitude of the rest of the division, not because of Gardy's inane platitudes.
  16. If Rios got claimed, I don't find it impossible that someone would put in for him. It's one year.
  17. I'm sorry, what?
  18. Works for Drew Rosenhaus and Scott Boras in this business all the time. The problem here is, I think the Twins did get the players they asked for. They are exactly what you'd expect this franchise to covet.
  19. Is it wishful thinking to believe that the Twins could ask for players who aren't as obviously terrible as Eduardo Escobar?
  20. The following conversation taking place would really be the only way this trade is remotely tolerable: JR: If Mauer and Doumit are healthy, no one else should start at catcher. Burl: Well, Lirianosie really likes having Butsey behind the plate, and I like having a "B" on the lineup ca... JR: Can I put you on hold for a second? Burl: Sure. ... JR: You still there? Burl: I'm still here. JR: I just traded Liriano to the Chicago. You were saying?
  21. Definitely, if Liriano had **** the bed in his next start, the Twins might not have gotten anything of value for him.
  22. It's not every day you can bring in a guy who can't hit for average, but makes up for it by being unable to draw a walk.
