  1. I'll believe those two when I see them Leverett is a senior. He is quitting baseball or going to independents?
  2. With my math (and the recent subtraction and additions) we are looking at 26 signings out of 43 draftees. I am keeping tract of them here, because the BA site just updates too slowly for my liking.
  3. The reference is here. He suggests that Capps and Liriano are fits. Whatever. The fact is that the Twins are scouting a particular Toronto affiliate. What severely bugs me, is that the Twins are scouting the Midwest League (A) Lansing Lugnuts. They need to have MLB-ready starting pitching ASAP as a return to any trade, and they are scouting single A. Nuts.
  4. These guys do not even qualify as rookies in the MLB, so they are beyond prospects. And Parmelee is on his way...
  5. What kind of revenues are those? Ticket revenues? Revenues from all sources? Something just does not add up on the Phillies' side. I will give you an example: Last year they pretty much sold out every game and their TV contract (that expires in 2015) is for $24M annually. Their TV provider is the Comcast Sports Network. The Phillies own a third of it. So they profit additionally from that venture.... And checked that Forbes' article... Here is the catch: they have a footnote on "revenue" that defines it as: "Net of stadium revenues used for debt payments." whatever that means...
  6. And if he does not sign. The Pirates will get the 9th pick of next years draft as a compensation per the new CBA. The only one to lose here is Boras/Appel
  7. Those were Major League Contracts. Delmon had one of those. They are history with the new CBA.
  8. I just wish that NCAA was fair and treated baseball players like football players so Appel would lose his eligibility for hiring a professional agent. If that were the case, the only place he could play ball in the US is Independent or beer leagues. No college kids should be able to influence the integrity of the draft. If he does not sign and goes to College for another season and gets hurt, he is up the proverbial creek. So it is silly not to do it, since $3.4 M is pretty high with the new standards...
  9. Based on the free agents that are out there (Both Hamels and Greinke have been called "Head Cases", as well, in the past.) and what it will take to sign them (and the Twins' correctly will not offer a multi-year deal,) A 1yr $12.5 M offer to Liriano is a no-brainer. Even if he takes it, which is unlikely. This team cannot build the rotation with free agents. This is why it is imperative to trade Span, Morneau, Carroll or whomever else (Hicks?) can bring a solid MLB-ready young SP or too. Then there will be plenty of $ left to sign a decent FA (not a bottom feeder like Marquis and the other TR SP signings of lore - Livan/Ponson/etc ) for $6-7M for a couple years and offer something for Baker. They do need a couple more or 3 SPs via trade/FA, to add to 2-3 of Hendriks/Diamond/De Vries/Deduno/Duensing/Gibson to have a chance next season. And Blackburn should be gone or in the pen. And if Gardy does not like it, they should be no Gardy (and really there should be no Gardy for the good of the team, but...)
  10. He is healthy this year. He is not playing because the Manager of the Millennium is not playing him.
  11. I find the dislike towards Casilla fascinating. Fact: Casilla and Valencia are the same age (give or take a month). Fact: Casilla has been playing better in a middle infield position (where the expectations about hitting are not the same as a corner position) that Valencia has at third base. Casilla's hitting as a MIF is better than Valencia's as a third baseman. Fact: Casilla is either the best or the second best (Revere) on the bases in this team. He has a lot of value and just entering his prime. He also needs consistent playing time... On the other hand, of course there has been a communication problem with him and the manager and the coaches like with most other Latin American players... And this is not Casilla's fault
  12. I was going to ask whether anyone had any first hand information about velocity, but I saw this. I am sure that Shipley's info is second hand the best. The only way to get velocity info for GCL games is by standing behind the table with the radar, just outside the fence where they are charting the pitches. and peek. Wonder if anyone around here did that for Gibson's appearance
  13. That's why a 1/12.5 offer to Liriano makes total sense.
  14. Thanks for the plug. All Ryan's trades are here indeed. I don't know... Back to the original question "Will there be backlash if Terry Ryan doesn’t offload any players?" My answer has to be some. Heck... this team has not won the world series since 1991, lost 99 last season and there has not been much "backlash" (other than from a few of us who hate the fact that this team is not competing...) Most people are happy to go to the new ballpark, eat, do the wave or whatever. And most people love Gardy and Terry. They are the anointed ones. So I suspect that there will be no backlash. On the other hand, if Ryan does not off-load and re-load with young good SP, the Twins will be up the proverbial creek... (again) but for most people that is mighty fine. OOFDA
  15. Carter had one of the highest K/9 rates in the organization 11.5 or so. But his ERA was high and he is 25 and still in Beloit. I think that the Twins held him back because he was a 39th round pick. He should have been at least at AA and see whether he failed there.
  16. Snappers added LHP Steven Evans, RHP Dallas Gallant, & SS Stephen Wickens, Twins release LHP Bart Carter
  17. Walters pitched 5 scoreless innings (5 H, 2 K) for Rochester. He threw just 73 Ps (47 strikes) and was lifted. I suspect that he needs another rehab assignment or 2 to get up to 90-95 pitches before he comes back for the Twins.
  18. My point is that the Twins should not be after prospects. They need MLB-ready SPs, which means AAA and/or AA high level pitchers who are stuck behind others in their organizations but who are better now or in 2013 than what the Twins have left for their 2013 rotations. I don't care if it is the top 10 prospect in a system and is at Rk level... The Twins do not need that because unless they have a solid rotation in 2013 and 2014, there will be another 90+ loss season. And right now the 2013 rotation projects worse than the 2012 rotation that is awful.
  19. Salcedo off the Miracle DL. Benson off the Rock Cats DL. They both join the Miracle. Rehab there for Benson closer to the Twins' headquarters not a demotion
  20. Do not confuse Liriano's results (1.179 WHIP, .178 OBA, 3.38 ERA, 8.4 K/9 his last 6 starts) with when GardynAndy decide to take him out of the game. Manager's choice. Yes he has been pitching like an ace., but Gardy has been taking him out of the game.
  21. Really got to scratch your head with all the love for a 22 year old who just got promoted to AA and has a career .738 OPS in the minors (Rookie to high A) and is a Butcher on the field, while the Twins have a 24 year old in the majors with very similar skill set and .732 OPS this season in the majors and is pretty darn good on the field. And that someone is not seen as a "long term solution" (whatever that might be) for the Twins by a whole bunch of fans. Got to love the irony. On the other hand, the Twins need MLB-ready SPs in return to a Liriano (and/or a Span) trade. This is not the draft where you go for the best player available and develop them, you got to fill need.
  22. Josh pitched innings 5 and 6 of the front end of a doubleheader against the Kingsport Mets today (the Elizabethton Twins won them both), allowing a single hit, a base on balls and striking out one. He got his 4th win of the year and dropped his season ERA to 0.69
  23. Apparently he (Sano) is not in the lineup tonight... let's start rumors I am not sure what is going on with Perez, but this seems to be more complicated that what it is. He has been playing really well recently. Something is going on...
  24. Hard to determine how good someone's arm is... Accuracy is another thing as well. For fun: Fangraphs lists the "ARM" stat in their advance fielding stats (and it is one of the composites that make the UZR). Revere's this season is zero, which is league average. Last season was -3.9. Josh Willingham's this season is -0.6 and Span's 0.6, while last season, Span's was -1.8. So, really, gut feelings and suspicions aside, Revere's arm is not lacking that much in this OF... At some point, when Young, Gomez and Cuddyer were the OFs, the Twins did have strong arms out there. Not any more.
  25. Thanks Sounds like you had fun. Not sure what that scout meant, but the only way that Benson is going to the Miracle instead of the Rock Cats or the Red Wings is for another round of rehab.
