  1. I like Eddie and I wish him luck. However, I'd like to see a prospect have some success in high A and AA before I can say that "he has arrived." Lots of players put great numbers as 19 and 20 year olds in Etown and Beloit and only some of them sustain that success. If you don't believe me ask fellow Puerto Rican Angel Morales (whose numbers in Etwon and Beloit were eerily similar to those of Rosario's... and then....) Give it time and let him play in AA a bit.
  2. A few more who are not invited: Sean Henn, Matt Maloney, Ryan Rowland-Smith - Red Sox Matt Tolbert, Brian Bass - Philies Rob Delaney - Orioles Yohan Pino - Reds Jair Fernandez - Cubs Joe Testa - Nationals Randy Ruiz - White Sox Jim Hoey - Brewers
  3. ok ok a couple points here: a. another Twins' instructor is also a legendary home stealer (Paul Molitor, 10 - Carew has 17). And the also legendary Babe Ruth has 10 (hope that tells you some) b. In the last 5 years I thought that 2 Twins will get the green light to do that (and both faster than Mastro) : Carlos Gomez and Ben Revere. They did not. But that was beam me up Scottie and stop sign Liddle at 3b. Let's see what Vavra will do..
  4. Kind of a detail, but not too many 3B prospects end up at 2B. Some end up at 1B or OF corners or DH. That's that.
  5. Maybe in 3 organizations: The Marlins, the Astros and the Metropolitans, esp the last...
  6. We had the piranhas. These three are more like the Flying Flea Circus
  7. ERA does not tell the story (or much of a story anyways...) Trevor's issues at Reading last season were: a. he had a hard time getting strikes with his secondary stuff (thus lots of walks) and b. when he was behind the count he was throwing FB (thus a ton of HRs allowed.) He went through the same story as a 20 year old at Clearwater the second half of 2010. He overcame it. He is 23. Needs to be more consistent for sure, but I think that he's got what it takes...
  8. I am sure that the kid is having the time of his life and I hope he keeps it up, but I just don't see him making the roster. BTW he is not formally invited to ST (every season the Twins give some uninvited minor leaguers some time with the big team and this is what happened here, but it usually happens after the cuts.) The timing of this is interesting, and maybe has to do with the fact that (the invited) Deibinson Romero has not played yet. Maybe something is wrong with him but I haven't heard anything to or against that effect. I think that what Rosario is fighting for is Fort Myers vs. New Britain (to begin) this season, but I just don't see him start in AA for a lot of reasons including the temperature up there in April.
  9. You never know what's in a Hamburger these days...
  10. On today's game they pitched just one inning each, like all the relievers......
  11. The other thing that needs to be considered is that a lot of last season's starters (Deduno, Vasquez, Perdomo, De Vries etc) will clearly be part of the bullpen competition as well.
  12. Frankly, I have not seen any "casual glorification of drinking alcohol" (whatever that may mean) here. Or not even any memorable mentions of it. I dunno... I am a parent of 3 teenagers (one of them adult) and I really think that "shielding them" from any alcohol references makes it even worse when they are on their own. (sorry for the potential "casual glorification?" that may follow but) I have no problem drinking in front of them or say "that beer really hit the spot" when it does, or "this is crap" when it does not. There is a thin line between "universally acceptable" and "censure". And depends on the universe. On the other hand, if one lets his/her kids to be on the 'net without supervision, methinks that "casual glorification of drinking alcohol" at the Twins' Daily site is probably the least of his/her problems...
  13. I think Polanco profiles as a potential future starter. So does Amaurys Minier. Goodrum might be close too. But they all are years away at best.
  14. I think that the Twins got a bargain when they replace Cuddyer for Willingham plus Doumit last off-season. I don't even think that this is arguable. I did not like Cuddyer that much since game 163 (the one Blackburn started at the Sux and Thome won it for them) when he tried to avoid a collision in the plate and did not score. Someone else with the whole season in line would have gone full spead to kick the ball out of Pierzynski's glove but Cuddyer did not do it for whatever reason. Hunter or Morneau would had flattened AJ. And then after the game (adding insult to injury) he was all smiles at the clubhouse saying to the reporters practically that "you win some, you lose some, and all is ok"... That rubbed me the wrong way. So I was done with Cuddyer. Add to it, his lack of clutch hitting and him being a GIDP machine and flankly I was really happy about last off-season...
  15. I downloaded that a couple days ago. One thing that it is different that previous seasons (major improvement) is that the free "Lite" and the pay versions are running though the same app with different data access. Which is great for someone who just wants the free app and keep track of scores and games. They even have a really nice push alert system that you can customize. Not much input about the pay app, because I don't plan to renew my mlb.tv subscription for a couple more weeks.
  16. This is normal. If you do a bit more digging, across the majors, you will find few SSs that were actually drafted in the first 3 rounds and were stuck at SS in the majors. Part of it is that the best SS hitters out of College/HS either outgrew the position or their fielding just was not there in pro ball, another part of it is that a lot of Latin American FA signees have been starters in this position throughout MLB.
  17. OK. Moved it to here That in bold tells me Marty Cordova From that previous discussion, Puckett, Carew, Oliva were better. The Killer did not have any speed or much defense, but I would take the equivalent of 60+ HR a season these days-equivalent from a 1B/DH over a 30/30 guy. And 30/30 changed during the ages. A lot. As far as his power and ever his hitting goes, please have a look at what Morneau did at the same age at the same leagues. OK Morneau's speed is not there and he was a below average 1st baseman and you don't need an arm if you play 1B, but this does not mean that Morneau was not a better prospect or Sano is a better prospect (they both are.) And to compare him to the 3 Twins' grown HOFers (and Oliva and Hrbek) is way premature.
  18. Indeed. Mea Culpa I should probably included Knoblauch as well, with whom he shares a lot of similarities, unless he gets his power going.
  19. I think that a rebuilding team cannot afford to have a 39 year old starter in any particular position. It is ok to have him around to rest the other guys and start across the infield 3-4 times a week. I really have no opinion on who should be the starting middle infielders (mainly because nobody sticks out from this bunch.) Let all 4 40-man players (Dozier, Escobar, Florimon, Santana) fight for it (maybe include Beresford from the non-roster invitees but not 31 year old Olmedo) and let the best 2 win.
  20. Ok, the Minnesotans then, and I am leaving the Ps out. Arguably, he does not even have the highest ceiling among the current Twins prospects... (unless he cracks 20 HRs a season at some point) Comparing him to Killebrew, Carew, Puckett or even Mauer is tough. And as far as ceiling goes, Hrbek's probably was way up there as well.
  21. Ever is a big world for an organization with an 112 year history and one that produced several home-grown Hall of Famers
  22. This comes from someone who was never a good hitter It is much easier to figure out where a ball can end and place a mitt and have the ball fall in it, than time a swing with the bat to hit a moving ball mid flight square on with the thick part of the bat and keep it fair and off the ground.
  23. Indeed. Still sounds that he is some ways off. I would not be surprised if he needs EST and start with the Miracle for few weeks.
