  1. Actually, based on: a. the fact that this moves Jeff Smith away from developing Twins' players and b. the average duration of the first base coach job for the Twins this millennium I am happy to see Jeff Smith there. Would be happier if he were with the White Sox or something, but gotta not be greedy
  2. They need to get it done. At this point I would take De Leon and A-level prospects. The Twins' 40-man roster needs some severe cleaning up to get anything else, and I am not sure that the Twins will be willing to cut the dead weight (Perkins, Santiago, Kintzler, D Santana etc) to open up space for more "MLB-ready" pitchers. As is the Twins rotation is not full, it is over-floating (Santana, Hughes, Santiago, Gibson, May, Berrios, Mejia) They need to clean house.
  3. Was going to ask if any relationship to a certain Lester, but he spelled his last name a different way.
  4. He seems that if anything, he will be on the dugout as the bench coach type. They still need a first base coach, which leaves Vavra, Rudy Hernandez, Gene Glynn for the base coach jobs. Likely Glynn will keep his 3B job and Hernandez will be the 1B coach. Still no idea what the hey Vavra is doing on that team.
  5. Need a bit of context here. That was the year 2000. When Ryan was architecting the last Twins' teams in light of Pohlad's and Selig's upcoming contraction. $500K free agent signing. In other words less than Jason Priddie, Alex Presley, & Co. Perspective.
  6. Few accounts on his stuff. Plenty of video there as well... Here (MLB.com) Here (MLB.com) Here (BA) Here (BA) from that link: "Greene throws a hard breaking ball that has reached into the low 80s. At its best, Greene’s slider plays as a plus pitch, with hard and late break with 11-to-5 or 10-to-4 shape and no clear breaking point. At other times, however, his slider will back up and lack its powerful sweep. Green has shown flashes with his mid-80s changeup, which shows fade and tumble and projects as at least an average pitch." How do you interpret that? My interpretation is that the slider is inconsistent and a work in progress and if the changeup projects average, means that it is way below average now. So he has one pitch. So if his slider improves he will have 2 plus pitches maybe, so he will be suited for the end of a bullpen. He needs at least one more plus pitch and one above average pitch to start talking about him being an "Ace". His out pitch is his fastball. This will not work about high A. People are smitten by his "athletic ability" and the fact that he plays two ways. Too risky of a pick. I'd rather see them pick someone who has a couple of close to plus secondary pitches and an above average projectible fastball that someone who is only a fastball pitcher. As far as athleticism goes, baseball is not track and field, esp. pitching.
  7. Really? Do you realize that Hunter Green has only one pitch, a fastball that he blows by high school kids at 97 mph? He is playing with a slider and that is below average right now. 1 pitch. Ace? As is he projects as a reliever. 97 mph fastball or not. And that is if he gets his slider going. If not, Hoey.
  8. Thought that Berrios' ETA was 2016 He is over the rookie limits for 2017 even... Mejia has to be added to the list. At this point he is more sure bet than both Gonsalves and Jay. Jay averages 5.3 IP/GS which is not reassuring that he will stay in the rotation long term. Plus he started a grant total of 17 games (2 in college) after HS. The jury is still out.
  9. Data: 453 innings at 3B; Sano's UZR is 1.4 & UZR/150 is 3.9 Above average.
  10. Agreed. Here are his numbers in 2016: Among starters with 130+ IP he is ranked: fWAR t25-28th/106 ERA 28th FIP 37th WHIP 40th (BABIP .285) SIERA 65th K%-BB% 59th K/9 72nd So as far as WAR and ERA went, he was a top 30 pitcher, but his peripherals are forecasting a large regression coming, in addition to the other risk factors mentioned above.
  11. .239/.321/.338, average defense, outside PCL... Cannot really use PCL numbers to make an argument regarding risk. Also huge drop in both power and speed numbers since he was a top prospect. Remember, Delmon was number 1 as well...
  12. That's part of the issue here. It is his dominant shoulder. Nobody knows whether he can hit as well or throw as well as when he was a top prospect. Would you take a flyer on Perkins, as is?
  13. There is an issue with this: All but Reid-Foley need 40 man spots and the Twins do not have enough to make this happen. -2 based on this. So you'd have to add Danny Santana and Mike Tonkin to balance it
  14. They have already signed 3 FA Cs this offseason: Jason Castro Dan Rohlfing Eddie Rodriguez Add JR Murphy & Mitch Garver and you have 5 for 2 levels. Lower levels: 3 more, AJ Murphy, Brian Navarreto & Keving Garcia @ AA 2 more, Rainis Silva, Bryant Hayman @ A+ and 9 more who played at various rookie levels last season As far as prospects go in the lower levels you got Rainis Silva and Ben Rortvedt with high ceilings. Silva's glove, game calling and framing is MLB-ready, his bat sucks... Either could replace Castro as the starter after his 3-year deal is done, but there are lots of questions there. Can they afford one or two more good C prospects at High A and below as another potential Castro replacement in 2-3 seasons? For sure. If someone falls on their lap in a trade, they should go after him. Can they afford another MiLB FA for AAA or AA? Certainly. If someone on that list with good game calling skills (eg. Dionel Navarro) is willing to accept a MiLB contract to catch at AAA to help develop the Twins' pitchers, will be good. But that's about it... But it does not make sense to add an aging veteran to a rebuilding team. If one of Murphy or Garver emerge this season or next, then you got a nice problem on your hands regarding who the starter will be, but you got to give those guys some MLB time behind the plate.
  15. They just signed Drew Rucinski and invited him to ST, for his veteran presence
  16. Here it is on youtube:
  17. I thought that you where talking about this Bert story...
  18. The Metropolitans.
  19. I'd like the roster to look something like this: Catchers: Castro, Murphy/Garver IF: Mauer, Park, Sano, Vargas, Polanco, Escobar, OF: Kepler, Buxton, Rosario, Palka, +1 of Grossman/Santana/Vielma/Goodrum/newcomer in trade SP: Gibson, May, Newcomer in Trade, +2 of: Newcomer in Trade/Berrios/Mejia/Romero/Jorge/etc RP: Duffey, Chargois, Rogers, Haley, Pressly, Melotakis, +1 of Burdi/Reed/Curtiss/etc Yes there are several people who need to go. Lots of work that needs to be done.
  20. It better look nothing close to this come March This is a 90+ loss team with the same old people. I can take a 90+ loss team full of youth and rebuilding, but not this. If it looks remotely like this, it would add insult to injury.
  21. Bit innocuous to tell y'all the truth, other than the shameful fact that they did not bother to provide a link for the Twins' fans who do not get FSN in their home TVs. Lots of corporate talk, which is a tad refreshing based on the Ryan administrations. They did not bother to ask and/or answer any tough questions. Personalized player development is an interesting concept and probably the only news from that broadcast, other than the Butch Davis dismissal that Molitor was adamant for it.
  22. I'd love to be abused by the system at the rate of $2 million too. Where do I sign up?
  23. Yeah. Exactly the reverse from his 2016 AAA splits (.283/.410/.516 vs righties) which is the reason that I think that he will be ok
  24. Protected by losing it because of signing someone who had a QO. The Twins will lose their second round pick in that case. However, like all Comp picks, it is tradeable
