  1. I'd like a world series championship in 2019 vs a 5-7 year competitive window. There are no guarantees. No guarantee of a 2019 championship, and no guarantee of a 5-7 year competitive window. All you can ever know is now. And now - we have an offense to beat all offenses.
  2. Trust but verify? We'll see. They opened up 3 spots on the 40 man for a reason. I think they are trying. Fall back plan will be some Pensacola flamethrowers maybe? I agree on a go big move here. Its likely we never see this good an offense again. Anyone in the minors we don't expect to help us next year on the 25 man roster should be made available to reinforce this team for a deep run this year. My opinion.
  3. Good on Tyler Duffy. He was an excellent college closer. We need 7th innings just like that. Day 1 for Romo couldn't have been better, and what an infectious smile and attitude. Hoping for the best today. At least 1 power bullpen arm please.
  4. With 3 open spots on the 40 man - if we don't make 3 deals today, which youngsters are slated to get a shot at our 25 man before the end of the season? I'm sure Falvey has his eye on someone in Pensacola. Why not a flamethrower like Colina? Not sure on his rule 5 eligible list status but if we need to protect him this winter why not?
  5. Write it down (I guess I am) Falvey will make a big move. 57 hours to prove me right or wrong. I just think he has to. Its his old Indians chasing us down. He can't let that happen - He certainly can't let that happen without giving it his best shot. Romo for a rule 5 eligible was smart - but not the homerun he needs to stave off the catcalls if the Indians catch and pass us. If we can't go big now, with the best offense in the history of offenses - then that's just dense. We've been waiting for this offense for a decade.
  6. Yes on a starter. We need 3 for next year - although I'm guessing we sign 1 of the 3 - hoping Pineda. I'd send Gibby to the pen. Perez would throw a fit, and I like Pineda on the mound in the playoffs over Gibson. Perez to the pen in the playoffs - too bad. I have little confidence in Odorizzi replicating his 1st half in the 2nd half. As of today you have Berrios and Pineda and alot of blah going on. Stud starter please. I give up one of the two Lewis/Kiriloff - and a bunch of others. Not both. We can get this done without giving our top two prospects. Yankees series showed us we need better pitching for the playoffs - hell, we need better pitching to hold off the Indians. Falvey will pull the trigger a couple of times before midnight next Wed. He has to. He, more than us doesn't want the Indians overtaking us - and if they do - at least Falvey gave it his best shot by bringing reinforcements.
  7. I have a feeling he'd be up in the bigs today if he hadn't thrown 6 yesterday. Nice work Pop - you'll be sitting in the stands at Target watching him before the year is done!
  8. I do applaud terrydactyls1947's optimism but Darius's take is totally correct. In a sane world you just have to make that strike 3 call for Duffy. No different than Tom Brady and the Patriots - NY will get the calls - and stud reputation guys like Chapman will get the calls, and nobody's like Kohl Stewart will not get the calls. Last night is what we should expect come playoff time. Pitching is the difference maker, and umpires will give the benefit of the doubt to Big Names and Big Teams. Not fair - but it is the nature of human nature I guess? We need to be better and control what we can control. I did like to see Baldelli go off. We needed that. Was starting to wonder. I feel better about him than ever right now.
  9. Dobnak looks like he is coming fast like Stashak. Love the cutting bait on relievers and trying our own guys - Won't love it quite so much if we don't make a deal - but, lets see what we have right now. Lots of rule 5 guys this winter. No reason to lose anyone we want to keep - or lose the opportunity to trade someone of value, rather than have to expose them and get nothing. So far so good - 8 days to go.
  10. THIS! Maybe, maybe not but - this is not the way Terry Ryan would have done it - and I like it. Morin and Magill were cut loose now in anticipation of what is coming - and in knowing we must do better. Giving some AAA guys a shot before 7/31 is a worthy endeavor. Passing over Allen - that feels different and I like it. I will wait until August 1 to complain - and maybe I won't need to.
  11. I always felt Terry Ryan/Gardy held there own guys (guys they drafted and coached) in higher regard when it came to trades and promotions, and I still see Niko Goodrum playing a significant role over there. Obviously it will take a couple of our top 5 guys to get Boyd/Greene - just hoping a Stewart Gonsalves or Hildy would warm his heart enough to allow us to hang onto guys we like better. As in a Poppen Smeltzer Littell or Eades. Boyd alone is probably worth 2 of our 100mph youngsters AND Stewart. And I would do it in a heartbeat. Berrios/Boyd as our 1-2 for the next 3 years. Look out.
  12. Gardy ran the show when we drafted Stewart/Hildy & Gonsalves - and was our chief during each of these 3 guys 1st 2 minor league seasons. These were the 3 pitchers I hoped he would overvalue. We can also throw Toby in if that helps spycake
  13. Boyd & Greene - now you're talking. Good trade partner too as Gardy would probably lobby for a few of his boys - and maybe overvalue a couple. These are the best 2 from the same team if we are thinking of doing a blockbuster. I know trades within a division are taboo-ish - but NY/Baltimore just made a deal. I would hate to see 3 or 4 of our young prospects come back and get us in a few years, but.....Boyd & Greene would give us an excellent shot this year to hang around till late Oct - and both slot right in nicely for 2020. These 2 would empty out the prospect barn, not sure what that means but it would look painful I'm sure? I'm in.
  14. Agreed. Thanks for venting. Now I don't have to. I will say this - Garver should play 3 out of every 4 days - Arraez should play everyday and bat 1st - Sano should be more limited at 3B if there at all - and someone needs to catch fire at the plate quickly. Only 5 games up - next 10 days schedule favors the Tribe. It does flip in Aug and our schedule is a little easier than theirs - but I feel like we are in a funk of some sort as HawksNest suggests.
  15. Excellent sermonette! What a perfect time for our young prospects to be performing. Lots of scouts in the stands these days and we have so many rule 5 eligible talented kids to protect this winter. We are in a very good place as an organization today. Pivotal moment in Twins history coming in the next 15 days. I have many opinions - but am very glad it isn't on me to decide what to do here. I promise not to complain about whatever moves we make & let it play out. The decisions made here could throw us over the top in '19 - or could give us heartburn in a couple years watching one of our own excel for someone else. Whew. I am a little nervous.
  16. What do you think it takes to land Boyd & Greene? Normally I would not consider a trade within the division - but these 2 are the 2 from the same team to get. Controllable till 2022 - better than the Giants 2 or the BlueJays 2 I think. Stroman/Giles are also both a locker room challenge - reports I've read on both suggest this anyway? I also like a Mets deal w/Wheeler and Lugo - I don't see them offering up Syndergaard for anyone. The benefit of a Giants deal has to be giving way less. I'm in if it costs AAA guys who aren't getting to Target field any time soon. If we're giving up top ten guys below AAA then I don't want rentals. We need a starting 5 next year.
  17. Agreed brute. Gibson is enough to drive you nuts. I also see Pineda getting better and better. I am about ready to vote Gibson to the pen if we pick up a stud starter. He's unbeatable for 2-3-4 innings and then...sometimes wriggles out, sometimes not. I don't have confidence in him starting a playoff game. I wish I did. Nice win! Better to be lucky than good on this one. I'll take it.
  18. Justin Verlander 2017 with Detroit prior to trade; era 3.82 fip 4.07 whip 1.28 K's to Walks 2.63 Madison Bumgarner 2019 so far; era 4.03 fip 3.90 whip 1.20 K's to Walks 4.79 Not to mention MadBum is 29 yrs old - Not to mention he has proven his Big Game status in 3 Octobers + my trade also brings Watson. As of today, MadBum's numbers are better than Verlanders at trade deadline 2017. MadBums already a stud and legend. Berrios may become one, but as of today we don't have one yet and I think we need one for October. Also not to mention the locker room factor in having a 3 time WS champ in everyones ear. If Cruz matters in the clubhouse - MadBum will matter at least equally. "who is clearly just ML average at this point" - I don't think so brother.
  19. One mentally tough, fierce competitor, eats nails for breakfast type starter and reliever please....Agree on one trade partner to get both. Giants are the team. MadBum has the fierce competitor thing down & Watson still has another year of control. Pineda to the pen. Giants, more so than most are looking for major league ready talent in return. Make Rooker or Gordon the centerpiece, and let them have some pitching - 3 of the following, either Thorpe, Stewart, Mejia, Gonsalves or Smeltzer. I hear the Giants aren't interested in anyone below AAA. They want to be viable next year - no major rebuild ha ha. Good luck with that. Also - reading Dodger blogs, don't get lost in MadBums current numbers - Dodger fans know they do NOT want to face Madison in October and are wishing somehow they could land him. I think they would know better than Twins fans what MadBum still has in the tank. Not thinking we could resign him - Watch LA make a play for him this winter - but thinking he'd be a horse for us on the mound with a TC ballcap on this fall.
  20. The biggest/most pleasant surprise has to be Wes Johnson & the pitching staff. No major off season signings (Perez wasn't in high demand) - essentially the same staff as 2018. I would have never thought this group of 13 could get the job done as they have. Which is why I tend to agree w/Mikelink45 and am concerned about this 13's chances to hold off the Indians and go anywhere deep in October.
  21. Yes we should be concerned. We are Twins fans and have all suffered from BTFS for decades (battered twins fan syndrome). At long last we've arrived. The long awaited prospect train has entered the station. Credit the front office for adding good pieces to the young homegrown talent we've been waiting for - Berrios, Rogers, Polanco, Rosario, Buxton, Kepler, Garver, Sano have arrived, and they are good - But - here we are, Cleveland is coming - if we lay an egg this weekend, then get swept next weekend - its on. I am concerned.
  22. Great review Nick! Its fun again to be a Twins fan. Bad week and we went 3-3 and still have an 8 game lead - and only 6 more games to the break. Then we get a chance to face off with the Tribe right away. Big series, & will set the tone for the 2nd half.
  23. "A man's gotta know his limitations" - Dirty Harry Schoop can't bunt. That makes it a bad decision to have asked him to. Everything else is debatable.
  24. We'll know we have a solid bullpen when Duffy and May are the 6th and 7th options. Like Pineda - who makes a decent #5 - but would be a poor #2 or #3. We'll know we have a solid bullpen when we stop discussing Duffy or May for high leverage roles. They are decent bullpen fillers. That's it. Its become obvious the front office did not anticipate being buyers this year and being this good. If they knew we'd be this good, Ryan Pressly would be our closer. We'd have never flipped him for some future magic beans. Never. Front office malpractice if they had any clue we'd be in this thing in 2019.
