  1. My eyes change color, so I would guess I have a chance to have different colored eyes at times, but I've never noticed it.
  2. Please don't take my response in the wrong way. If the officers working had worn "blue lives matter" shirts and the Lynx players had refused to play due to that, I'd have issue with their refusal to come to an opportunity to open dialogue on this topic. I don't like either side not willing to come to the table to work on a solution best for all involved. No, it will not be the ABSOLUTE best for any single group involved, but when you work in a community manner, you end up with everyone knowing that their voice was heard and the corresponding decision(s) came from an informed position rather than a dictatorial one. And yes, it is their secondary job they're walking away from, so it's not like they're making some big statement by walking out on their career. However, they know that making this statement as they did will get publicity. If the parking ramp adjacent was staffed by off-duty officers and the Lifetime Fitness within the Target Center happened to give all their employees BLM shirts, would there even be 12th page coverage of those parking ramp officers walking off the job in the STrib, let alone any national media coverage? I do believe this officers were intending to attempt a statement of their own by walking off the job in the manner they did. You let the company know that due to the actions of their employees, you'll no longer be able to work there any longer and don't come back again once your shift is over. Leaving in the middle of your shift is a grand-standing sort of move.
  3. And that's where what Dallas has done takes an even more impressive place, frankly. Many groups have come humbly to the table, willing to put their agenda on the table and work together in compromise to find ways for everyone to feel as their concerns and welfare is being understood and appreciated.
  4. No, I don't agree with blocking a highway. When you protest in front of a major political building and that protest affects the traffic on that one street, well, I guess I can forgive that as taking action and a pseudo-expected thing as part of our freedom of peaceful assembly near a political building like a city hall or capital building or such. A highway, however, is a different ballgame. I think there's a definite attempt to make a bigger spectacle and be more demonstrative in actions on each side, but sadly, that's how we got where we are in Washington.
  5. And that's where things just get worse, and have been getting worse in the Twin Cities, sadly. Holy crap was there an opportunity to have an incredibly publicized open dialogue with a group of fairly popular group who are speaking out. Join the press conference with Moore and Whalen and the other players and have an open dialogue about efforts taken in Minneapolis and open dialogue on what could be done better. Instead, let's take our ball and go home...
  6. It's short for Penelope, but don't tell my wife that. She didn't like that, which is why we settled on Penny! I figured Penelope was the perfect spoiled white girl name, so that worked for a pampered white poodle.
  7. Maddux Penny Happy Pet Photo Day!!
  8. i do find the fact that it was Dallas unfortunate. I've been extremely heartened not just by the response of the police chief in Dallas, but also by the Dallas community to him, which tells me that the legwork had already been done to improve relations in the community as previously mentioned (some have said that the ground made up in the relations between Latinos and police in Dallas is an example in all the US of how a racial group and law enforcement can come together to openly and honestly address concerns and productive ways to help one another overcome them). I loved that the youth that proposed the weekend "flowers for a cop" was a youth that has actively marched in black lives matter protests. I also was very pleased to hear that the Dallas streets in the aftermaths have been united - black, white, Latin, Asian, whatever - to find ways to be open, with groups meeting in the streets to talk openly with officers about their hurt about the incident. While Dallas sports is typically the cesspool of sports, perhaps all of America should be watching Dallas right now...and learning much.
  9. I'll get one of the pups tonight and share!
  10. I do set a wicked pick...
  11. Wow. My wording in my previous post was not good. I meant to state that my wife's friend's daughter physically takes to her father's color. She's quite dark, so much so that you'd have trouble believing she's of mixed race. The way that was put in the previous post was unfortunate, and I do apologize if anyone mistook the way that was written!
  12. One of my wife's friends is the mother to a mixed race child who takes very strongly the color of her father. They were driving down the street, and as an officer happened to drive the other direction, her daughter asked, very frightfully, "Mom, are our tail lights okay?" That's a level of fear of the police that I've never experienced in all my life, let alone before I reached the ability to drive and actually be responsible for the ticket that could happen.
  13. Hey, that Braves team was bad...real bad, but Horner was a joy to watch! Hrbek without the a-hole element Kent brings.
  14. Last evening's events said a lot. A picture went on to national news of a suspect. Turns out that gentleman had absolutely nothing to do with the shooting. He handled things well because of how the Dallas PD handled their own mess up (admitting to trusting faulty sources and jumping the gun on releasing pictures). He even turned over the AR that he was carrying (legally, thanks to DERP Texas laws) as a point within the protest so as to not incite any fear. A good citizen, mistaken for doing something bad, was immediately outed by numerous news sources once one person recognized him, however, and when an officer goes on a hunch, he/she needs to be damned sure about that hunch, especially before reacting with force!
  15. Sadly, she was the one trying to explain it to her mother...
  16. First Non-Sports - Challenger Explosion First Crystal Clear Sports Memory - Bob Horner's Four Home Run Game (actually just had the 30th anniversary of it yesterday - damn I'm old!)
  17. The horrible thing is that I had friends walking in that crowd tonight when gun shots erupted in Dallas. This is getting so far out of hand. I fancy myself a writer, but right now I don't have words. I'm going to bed to pray, to cry, to hurt.
  18. A little self-promotion - I just did a top 50 list of all prospects in baseball that came out over the weekend on Call To The Pen, the final of which is here. The article I'm really mentioning has to do with baseball patriotism and the issues I had with a lot of things from this weekend that for some reason hit a tipping point last night with the whole eagle debacle at Dodger stadium. I wrote up an article here. As always, I'd love the feedback.
  19. I had someone tell me once that once your tweets got enough eyes on them, you'd start noticing that various porn Twitter accounts would start liking them and retweeting them. I've recently hit that level on my scouting reports and such, which I'm not sure if that's an accomplishment or not! LOL
  20. The Deng thing is rumored in so many places that it has to have some traction to it at this point, and I rather like the fit.
  21. Um...you do realize that college football does use a different ball - striped differently and laced differently, so it is easier to grip for QBs and easier to see in the air for WRs.
  22. I went as Paul Bunyan for Halloween one year and my friend's little girl went as a princess. She referred to me as "my big Ben" at the time, and insisted on holding my hand throughout trick-or-treating. A picture from behind of the two of us has shown back up at multiple different situations as one of her parents' favorite pictures, and now she's 16 (oy, I'm getting old), and we're discussing re-creating the picture for her high school graduation with the weight I've lost and her full grown. I'd have to grow out the full beard again, but that shouldn't be any sort of an issue.
  23. Maddux. Not even close. Second place would be the fun discussion for me. Peak Pedro and peak Randy Johnson along with Kershaw would be an incredible discussion, but Kershaw is actually getting BETTER, which is incredible to consider.
  24. I would suggest this season finding a time when the Dodgers are home to enjoy the combo of Kershaw and Vin Scully. It's worth the watching...
  25. This is why I love mlb.tv.
