  1. That was a big one to get people on the board.
  2. I love classical music. Listen to some every day. I used to have a great weight-lifting mix that was all classical music, and people who heard it thought it was great. Then that mp3 player was stolen, and I haven't been able to find the songs again (I mixed it from a friend's computer who has as many days and hours of classical music on his computer as I have total music). Classical has a lot of different stuff, depending on my mood. Debussy for some relaxing music, Tchaikovsky for more upbeat stuff, Beethoven for a good collection of combination sympony/vocal, and Mozart/Bach for background music as I work around the house. I do feel blessed to have been exposed to a lot of different classical music when I was in college as a vocal performance minor.
  3. I'm not sure. He's awfully fragile. That's a big part of it is that you have to be very healthy and play 16 games a season for a decade or more to even be considered as a lineman.
  4. Smerf, there's plenty of good country, but the problem is that they don't seem to like to play that. I went to Zac Brown Band at Target Center in November, and that was among the top 5 or so best concerts I've ever seen. I'm a huge fan of music, and I have over 8500 mp3s and 400+ CDs of all different genres. I was a vocal performance minor in college, so I have a high appreciation for music. That said, I'm a big fan of Christian music, working as security for Sonshine Festival in Willmar every summer. I've had the chance to meet a lot of great artists there and enjoy a ton of great bands.
  5. He just wasn't Canton material when fully healthy, but he was arguably the best of the current generation, but there's no elite all-time centers in the current generation (though Mangold has a chance to be there).
  6. This and just logic of size means it's a lot easier to put a ball into a mitt than it is to hit it just right with a bat.
  7. Yet I played offensive line up to walking on with the Gophers, and I never suffered an injury or concussion in the game, and it certainly wasn't from lack of hitting hard. The game of football is safe. The glorification of "impact" hits has made the game what it is today, and that's a shame. I'll be very happy to let my kids play the game. Among my brothers, there were 5 concussions suffered in high school, none in football. There's a lot of reasons we could debate this, and I've stated my comments previously on the BYTO board. I'd rather avoid that level of discussion again.
  8. Rural SoDakian as well. Legion was an option to the degree of it was there. However, 45 games in 60 days didn't work with my dad's needs on the farm, so I had to give it up. I was a very good pitcher in the end, topping out with a low-80s fastball at that age that I could throw from three different angles. No breaking pitches, just different angles.
  9. Most notable thing about the SOTU...the awkward rebuttal. Yikes.
  10. These trades simply just don't happen. You trade away a prospect to get an MLB guy. "Challenge trades", as they are called are very rare.
  11. The Indians only give up a 2nd and 3rd for signing Swisher and Bourn. They keep their first.
  12. Never saw him live, but I used to LOVE Home Run Derby on ESPN Classic, and Killer was second only to Aaron in invincibility on that show.
  13. Jurrjens makes sense. There's a lot of worry there with his arm issues. He fought the Braves in getting work done, and he's not shown great skill coming back. His velocity, already slow, was WAY down last year. Redmond I don't get. I would have loved the Braves kicking the tires again. He's not a guy I'd want to rely on for 34 front-line starts each season, but he's got good enough stuff to be a swingman type with some upside to even be more. Yes, he's 28 this year, so there's probably not much more upside than he's shown so far, but he's a smart pitcher that could be solid at the back of a rotation.
  14. And they're reportedly backing out of their deal with Jair Jurrjens. As if the guy needed another slap across the face. Isn't this when the Twins sweep in with a 4 year, $20M deal for Jurrjens?
  15. In regards to your last comment, it has been shown many times over since testing began that pitchers have been doping as much or more than hitters, so higher K totals, which are often tied to more velocity, would be expected during the height of an era of doping. Regarding the changing times, I think you look at the construction of the bullpen as much as the limits on the starter in the modern game. If Justin Verlander loads the bases in the 8th inning after 122 pitches, he's likely coming out for a specialist to get the batter at the plate to attempt to ground into a double play, who will then be followed by a specialist for the next hitter to combat handedness. Then the 9th will bring the closer, and game over. In the 1940s and 1950s, you had a pitching staff of 7-8 on a number of teams.
  16. Surprising that in his internet stalking, Aaron didn't realize that Kate Mara has had a longer and arguably bigger career than her little sister "Rooney". Shooter introduced everyone to Kate Mara, but fans of Nip/Tuck or 24 knew her on TV, and "We Are Marshall" was a very notable role as well. She's also been in 127 hours, and probably a lot more if I actually did some Gleeman-esque stalking.
  17. Did CC just poop Spiderman? http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1207006/cc-and-spidey2.gif
  18. Joe Mauer, catching like a Boss http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1319718/mauer.gif
  19. http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1216036/dozier-what-in-the-hell.gif Brian Dozier has the best one of 2012, though.
  20. http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1334150/ross-double.gif My favorite one of 2012. That was just wicked to watch live, and the reaction of the announcers was great. The next night, they brought in a physics professor to review how unlikely the trajectory of the ball was.
  21. And he mistreated a number of Twins fans among my family. I'm the only non-Twins fan among my family, so his indiscretion with my family wasn't to a group of Braves fans. He's just a guy who gets put way too high on a pedestal for my personal experience with the man. Conversely, my personal experience with Kirby was very, very good, and he's been vilified since his death after being an even bigger fan favorite during his career.
  22. Yes, he should have slid, but there are plenty of physics-intelligent people who have shown his momentum stopped, and then Hrbek pulling back. We can have this argument for ages. I just know what Twins players from the time say about the play...
  23. Yeah, no. Not oversensitive. I hate Hrbek. There's probably 3 people in the whole world who I hate at a personal level. He's one.
  24. Eh, my hatred of Hrbek has as much to do with 1991 as my love of the Atlanta Braves does. He'd been a jerk before 1991 to my family and I, and he has been a jerk multiple times since. I've also been on Twins forums with most of the folks here since before 2000, so I'll be glad to stay, thanks.
  25. The reason Bourn is available is because he was given a qualifying offer. It's the same reason Kyle Lohse is out there. The compensation system works much differently now, and this is the first offseason we're seeing the effects of it. The Twins would give up their 2nd round pick, the Braves would get a compensation pick this year if the Twins signed Bourn, but after 2013, there are estimates that the qualifying offer for free agents will be over $14M. That's significant money to assume for a guy who would be going into his age 31 season and derives the majority of his value from speed and defense.
