I see about a 2% chance Cueto is resigned. The Royals simply do not build financially around one player. They'll have big raises coming soon for their guys, and it could be a matter of 1-2 years before they enter another down period as they rebuild after moving/losing Hosmer, Moustakas, Gordon, Cain, Escobar, and their bullpen. The Mets/Braves trade already bore fruit for the Mets with Uribe knocking in the winning run today as the Mets defeated the Dodgers and ended Greinke's scoreless streak in the process.
Hugh Duffy, whose 1894 season is still the Braves single season leader in BA, OBP, SLG, R, H, 2B, RBI, and runs created along with placing in the top 10 also in TB, 3B, and XBH over 120 years later.
I can take or leave Eric Karabell, but Tristan Cockcroft explaining his reasoning with fantasy baseball is excellent. I'm also a big fan of Matt Williamson for football podcasts.
I think I'd pay to listen to Jim Rome rather than listen to Cowherd for free. He's terrible. ESPN has actually put together some solid podcast crews (interesting because their TV baseball, football, and basketball crews have only gotten more and more terrible), but Cowherd was definitely the sore spot on their radio/podcasting lineup.
After looking it up - the A's stole 7 bases on the game, 3 were on Lester, one with Soto behind the plate, 2 with Norris behind the plate. They stole 2 bases off Gregerson/Norris, 1 off of Doolittle/Norris, and 1 off of Hammel/Norris.
How so? A rental is only a rental. It's adjusted the cost that an acquiring team no longer gets a draft pick when that player moves on, but the demand for such players really hasn't changed.
Interesting that Kubel's not even a top 5 SD-born MLB player, though. Sparky Anderson Floyd Bannister Dave Collins Sean Doolittle Mark Ellis Keith Foulke Terry Francona and don't forget Terry Forster!
I don't think the Braves are looking for a team to pay 100% of CJ's deal, but they want him gone because they don't want him occupying a roster spot for the next 2 years.
The funny part is it sounds like the format was being changed throughout the day, so the way it was played out wasn't the way it was supposed to happen on Monday morning or even Monday noon. There were changes all day long. If Manfred's team works like this on the fly, he's got a good shot going forward in the commish role.
The word in Atlanta is that for Jim Johnson, AJ, or Cameron Maybin to move, the team who acquires them would have to also take on Chris Johnson. The first team to do that will make the cost for the other two cheaper financially, but they could also get a better deal for the guy they want. There's also some work being done by the Braves to attach Bronson Arroyo to one of those three as well.
For short term, Daniel Castro has shown good instincts when moved over from short, and he'd be the defense-focused player they'd want. Uribe is a free agent after this year, but the Braves have already reached out to him with a pretty nice contract offer that'd keep him on board for 2016 with team options for a year or two after that to allow him to finish his contract mentoring the next Braves 3B.
Then it's done. Since the Braves don't acquire hitting prospects, they'll bypass Sano and Buxton and settle for Berrios for Grilli straight up. He does have a contract for next year, too, so you are getting a very good deal on a non-rental!
