  1. w00t! Hate that I have to work right up to the game!!
  2. How were you able to see Episode 4? I only have access to three.
  3. I thought the third episode of Discovery was very good. Pacing much better, self-contained episode, interesting cast.
  4. I saw the first two episodes of Discovery, and enjoyed them. I went in with zero expectations, and I knew it wasn't going to be like TNG--I'm not sure that an episodic Startrek can succeed today (though Orville might prove me wrong). As I understand, beginning in the third episode, the series becomes more of typical Startrek show, following a single ship, with a single crew, for the span of the season. Many reviewers have seen the third episode and say it's more consistent, less actiony, less exposition, and more depth. I went ahead and subscribed, because there's not alot of shows I'm really enjoying. 5.99 for two or three months is less than going out for dinner. I'll cancel after the show ends. Those skeptical of the subscription should wait until the season is over, and then get the CBS All Access one week trial and binge watch it (assuming it's still offered, if not, watch the season for 5.99). As an aside, another show I've started to sink my teeth into is Netflix' Ozarks, which has a pretty stellar cast, and something like Breaking Bad in hickville.
  5. I checked it out. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would; made me laugh, but isn't so silly that the premise/world broke down.
  6. Maybe re-title the thread "Television" or something not so dated....
  7. Really rewarding to see that offensive outburst from our young core, especially at home. I was stuck with the Diamondback's broadcast, and the announcers were really impressed by our young hitters.
  8. OOTP18 is a great game. Too bad I already own it, otherwise I'd be entering the contest for sure.
  9. Wow, that was a fast production cycle, as I believe Season 2 wasn't announced until well into the first season. (Part me fears this will end up like the second-going of True Detective). Also, the title of this thread is gaining renewed accuracy...
  10. Jack Morris literally just realized the Twins were losing.
  11. Why not next year? Advanced college hitters can move quickly through a system, though all don't succeed. This is totally optimistic. I hope he'll be ready shortly after Mauer leaves after 2018 (or Mauer stays at severely reduced salary and role).
  12. I was thinking maybe they saved on both Lewis and Rooker, and the combined savings were necessary to net Carlson. Is Doogie speculating or sourcing?
  13. Gotta be Carlson for the first pick in the second round, right?
  14. It's clear the Twins were not in love with any of the options at the top. So picking a player they like just as much with less risk (as non-pitcher), and saving money to get two more guys they want at 35 and 37 makes a lot of sense to me. As the margins between slots gets tighter and tighter, whatever money the Twins were able to save will have greater leverage as the draft moves into even later rounds. I'm excited to see what they get at 35 and 37, but the Twins set themselves up to get high upside players throughout the draft. There's a clear logic, that can work to the Twins benefit. Of course the actual players will determine the success of the draft, but the blueprint itself has no logical flaws. It mitigates the risk of drafting a pitcher number one while giving more flexibility and leverage throughout the rest of the draft.
  15. Isn't the lesson that you hold onto assets (even depreciated ones), so that you can retain future assets? Whether the a certain team wins or loses a trade isn't the point so much as they didn't choose to wait until their given asset was worth nothing.
  16. Let's give Hicks some more at bats before he becomes the standard of bad trades. He was really awful last year.
  17. I like acquiring a non-40-man pitcher with experience. It gives the Twins flexibility and a low-end arm to potentially fill out the bullpen should it come to that without the use of a roster space.
  18. Why was Romero pulled in the 4th? Injury? Or ineffectiveness that would have lead to further damage? I mean at three runs, Romero hadn't yet precluded the 'quality start'.
  19. Finally finished this show. I really dug it. It's a dark comedy/drama about a spy who is in way over his head and sings factual folk songs to cope. Not for everyone, but it was for me.
  20. Just watched the first episode of Patriot on Amazon. Unique; oddly deep and comical. Here's wondering if the show can keep it up.
  21. I really love the Expanse. But its not for everyone. It's pacing can be somewhat slow and even confusing (there are several plot lines that take some time coalesce), but it is very much space opera in the vein of Battlestar (good writing, good acting, ambitious plot, excellent production). So far, I've actually like the second season more than the first (the plot is moving forward at a much better pace); but I still find myself having to rewind because I missed some essential piece of dialogue.
  22. Cheers, Brock. At first, I was bit jaded by the demise of BYTO, but I'm thankful for the move to Twins Daily. This community has provides some of those most thoughtful discourse on the interwebs, at least in the Sports Bar. I count many of the posters, mods, and owners of this site as friends, and appreciate everyone's ongoing contribution, thoughtfulness, and respect.
