There is the MLB tuition program that they can negotiate in their first contract. Given that schools only have on average 12 scholarships to divide between the players it might be more profitable to negotiate with a team for the max bonus with max scholarship money. One would hope that the teams would be smart enough to have people motivated and organized. I know, there is plenty of evidence to the contrary.

I did not follow the teams. The statistics from the 2011 rosters shows combined they used 46 pitchers. A couple were rehab starts. Combined it looks like they used about 35 position players. The players not promoted to an "A" level should have been cut over the winter not this spring. I don't recall any player repeating low level ball being an impact player at the major league level. I guess you have to fill a roster with somebody.

Maybe they are drafting players they can sign below slot so they can take risks later by drafting a player they can bribe out of college.

Of course Mornneau would be moved if a contender thought that by adding Morneau would equal a championship. May is far to early to tell. One must need to see what July brings. From a stickily observational standpoint a trade would merely bring prospects. It is rare the Smoltz for Alexander trades. Which team can you bamboozle for a John Smoltz? (Although the Twins fan in me says that Justin is no Doyle)
