  1. It really does seem like they're putting a whole lot of focus on top-quality secondary pitches. Big curveballs and polished changeups are what I'm seeing. Maybe they're onto something there?
  2. Shouldn't we take into account the fact that it's now easier to shuffle the pieces around and get some help from the upper minors? Guys like Garver, Curtiss, Romero, etc. They could all be up tomorrow with some strategic thinking. And not only does that give them valuable experience and probably make us better next year, it's also the exact opposite of giving up if they can perform the way we think they can. Who knows, this might make us better.
  3. And in the meantime we get to excoriate the front office for "dumpster diving." Everybody wins!
  4. I vote for outrage. I expect every subsequent post from you about this topic to be in all caps.
  5. drjim reports in another thread that the Twins are getting international bonus pool money too. Looks even better now.
  6. Filling up the pitching pipeline for later years and clearing out a 40 man spot from a guy who wasn't going to be around next year anyway. I don't know if Watson will work out, but the process seems correct.
  7. I definitely did a double-take when I saw that. Tyler Watson sounds intriguing. Anyone got a full writeup?
  8. I think their accuracy rate is actually pretty amazing, but when umpiring determines the outcome of something that would otherwise be fair, there is absolutely, positively a problem to be corrected. And there are literally zero consequences for them being bad at their jobs. Yeah, they might not get to ump the World Series (thank God), and they get ratings and such, but they cannot be fired. They have life tenure. And guys like Phil Cuzzi are showing us what a terrible idea that is right here, right now. Bring on the bots.
  9. If our alternatives are guys like Phil Cuzzi, Angel Hernandez, and Joe West, I say fire the lot and bring on the bots.
  10. So you expect that hitters who have spent literally years honing their batting eye and skill in picking good pitches to hit to just simply adjust completely and without ill effects within the span of a few innings? Or maybe you're telling me that good hitters should have to reach out and poke the end of the bat at pitches way out of the zone, hoping to put a bad swing on a bad pitch? God forbid the umpires to do their ****ing jobs.
  11. Did you know that there is literally no mechanism to fire a major league umpire?
  12. "Phil Cuzzi's not had a very accurate strike zone here, late in the game." Ya think!?
  13. And Alex Perez pinch runs for the tying run in the bottom of the ninth, then goes on to pitch the 19th and 20th. Wacky day for him, huh?
