  1. How often does this happen? Seems like a huge waste of a pick, unless saving money is more important than not screwing over someone's future.
  2. So it happened by accident? Look, when people like Jose Berrios explicitly call Puerto Rico things like "my country," I think it's okay when Seth does it. And if your stated goal is to make people aware of PR's history, how on earth does it further than goal to conflate it with the rest of the US, when it's so clearly different?
  3. Super happy we were all able to trivialize the point over pedantry. Let me guess, you are intimately familiar with all overseas territories, dependent territories, crown colonies, and disputed provinces? Was there anything substantive that was problematic about the article? No? Okay then.
  4. First of all, neither I nor anyone else is "pushing him out there." He wants to be there, and he's a good player. And not only does Joe not have to play pro sports, he doesn't have to do a goddamn thing the rest of his life. And literally none of that is the point, nor is any of it a good argument. Does he want to continue playing? Apparently yes. Has he healed up well? Apparently yes. Can he continue to help the team? Apparently yes. He sure did last year, and so far this year it's looking very good. Attempting to hide behind a fake concern for his family is just cynical. So...I think we're done here.
  5. That would be good for Mauer, so you’re really reaching for something to complain about here. Because, aside from longevity, which everyone knows is only lacking because of a traumatic brain injury, Joe’s catcher résumé is right up there with the greats. And you know that the only reason Mauer isn’t going to end up right up there with Berra or Piazza in the hit count is that they didn’t have a major brain injury take away some of their peak years. I think Mauer would very much prefer to be compared to catchers than first basemen. And why not? He was an every day catcher for a decade.
  6. Phil ****ing Cuzzi! It needed to be included, but if you absolutely had to pick an official hit for that last spot I'd nominate this one: http://www.startribune.com/postgame-mauer-vs-chapman-was-one-for-the-ages/160189965/ Edit: link isn't working for me for some reason but just search "Mauer vs. Chapman was one for the ages" This one's burned in my memory as emblematic of what Joe was capable of, and hopefully is capable of again. Sadly, it was only shortly before his last big concussion robbed him of this ability for a few years. Excellent article. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
  7. Love the top prospect update. Don’t love that Hughes has a WHIP of like 2 in A ball.
  8. Also, I'm not sure how to feel about that, given how many warning track shots our team had...
  9. Congrats to LaMarre on his first hit as a Twin. Or ever. Or whatever.
  10. I'm going to go ahead and ask you not to do that. This is a family site.
  11. Give him a couple high fastballs now.
  12. Rosario in center and not Kepler? Am I wrong in assuming it'd be the other way around?
  13. That actually makes way more sense. I stand corrected.
  14. But then he'd have to be in Portland.
