  1. I thought they called it a sprain, but I also thought a sprain was a partial tear. What happened to that doctor who used to comment on these threads?
  2. I'm assuming he wasn't a math major at Rice?
  3. Speaking as a counter-arguer, I did find the article to be thought-provoking and well-written. I don't really agree with the conclusion, but that's okay. I'd read more articles like it.
  4. Too much speculation for my taste. Not to mention that I find it difficult to think that Prior would have been the tipping point between losing the ALCS in 2002 and washing out in the ALDS in 2003, and winning a World Series. There's an absolutely enormous gap there; one that I don't think is filled by a single pitcher. And we shouldn't be playing for third, right?
  5. A. Knowing that the scoreboard was showing the incorrect information makes me think it was less "asleep at the switch" and more "responding to the information given." B. He's still a professional paid to play the game. He should know what the situation is regardless of what the scoreboard says. The scoreboard is for people like me, not people like him.
  6. Yeah, that's why I do lots of 'roids. No, wait. Wait. ...That's why I'm fat.
  7. I swam in college with a guy named Klete, who had sisters named Kelsey and Kalyn. They were all swimmers. Their parents' names were Karen and Kelly. It's a bit ridiculous...
  8. I hope to see him in the big leagues, and soon. I also hope he gets a fair shake as far as beginning-of-the-year rosters go, and I think he probably will. I remember last year when everyone (including me) assumed that Gibson would be shunted into the minors just because of numbers concerns. We were trying to squeeze value out of Worley, had Diamond not far removed from a good season, and had a lot of Deduno believers. But Gibson won it fair and square. Maybe the same thing happens to Meyer this year. In any case, I don't really see him losing out to a guy like Pelfrey.
  9. There's a lot to be optimistic about here. The outfield's still a bit of a mess, but it looks like the infield is a strength offensively and defensively, and I'm feeling so much better about the starting rotation. I also think there could be significant turnover in the bullpen starting this year, which looks like it's shaping up very well. It's been a long few years. It's nice to see things beginning to come together.
  10. Posted four minutes ago by ESPN - Tampa Bay Rays manager exercises opt-out clause, leaving the team What!?
  11. I am simultaneously amused and horrified.
  12. I'm not hugely surprised. I am little surprised that this thread isn't already full of gloating. (But I'm happy about it - let's keep it that way.) To Gardy: Best of luck in your future endeavors, be it golfing or managing the Diamondbacks. You had some great seasons at the helm of the Twins, and I hope you'll be remembered for more than the last few years. I will at least.
  13. I have almost nothing of value to add to this conversation, but I appreciate that when you think of hot cars, you think of Chargers right up there with Porsches. Warms my heart.
  14. Wait, I just had a brainstorm. 10 cent beer night! Think of all the fans that will show up! What could possibly go wrong?
  15. Interesting. (And probably a bit off topic, but interesting.) I ran the numbers: Overall win percentage: .457 Win percentage NO Mauer: .413 Win percentage WITH Mauer: .473 I would guess without checking that the disparity was even larger when Mauer went out at the end of last year. Even though he's having a down year, his presence in the lineup remains pretty well correlated with more winning.
  16. According to the box score, Wheeler had 95 pitches. I'm sure they would have loved for him to go longer, but it seems he wasn't very efficient in his five innings/~100 pitches.
