  1. Manaea, Anderson, and Stanek all threw clunkers this week. In Anderson's defense it was his first rough outing of the year. It is really starting to look like it is going to be Appel/Gray and then everyone else. For those saying the Twins have to take might be out of luck if things keep going this way.
  2. 4 seems about right for the system. Baseball prospectus is right that low A is most talented team. Easily.
  3. Gray pitched a complete game vs Kansas on Thursday allowing one run. He had an impressive 12/1 K/BB ratio and his fastball was still sitting in the upper 90s in the 9th inning.
  4. Appel kept things going on Thursday vs Washington State throwing a complete game shut out. He allowed 4 hits and had a 10/1 K/BB. Man is a machine.
  5. Anderson pitched vs Mercer on Thursday and had his only bad start of the year. Went 6 innings allowing 11 hits and 8 ER which raised his season ERA to a "massive" 2.21. He did strike out 10 and walked none which brings his K/BB ratio to an insane 70/8 for the season.
  6. Last time I checked pitchers that have three solid-average pitches, no above average/plus pitch, normally profile as 3/4/5s. Maybe I was harsh saying back of the rotation because he is a lefty but I see being a #3 as his ceiling. Lots of college guys who dont profile to be front of the rotation pitchers K alot of guys. Wimmers k'd a ton of guys and still profiled as a #4. Is getting a #3 in the second round a bad thing? Heck no! I would welcome Windle to the Twins with open arms. I was just saying personally I prefer higher upside, higher bust potential, guys. In the end it most likely wont matter anyways because if Windle keeps pitching the way he does he wont make it out of the first round.
  7. At the top there are plenty of great systems with great arguments to be top 5 but I can't see how BA puts the Twins 10. They have two, on their spec list, in the top 10! No other team has that. Also, while a lot of their talent is in the lower levels they have Hicks, Gibson, and Arcia in their top100 who will help this year. I just don't get it.
  8. While Windle has most likely pitched himself into the first round I really don't mind. After wimmers I'm not really a fan of "safe" back of the rotation guys. While people around here love the fact he is from Minnesota in reality that doesn't make him a better prospect. I rather take a shot on clarkins (might go in top 15 if he keeps pitching well), krooks, or gonsalves. Upside, upside, upside!
  9. Buxton is a freak. His athletic ability is immeasurable.
  10. I think the Twins showed last year they going to take the top player on their board regardless of position. Even if they pass on an arm in the first round there are plenty of solid arms that will be around in the second round and later. While this is considered a weak draft overall there is a butt load of second tier college arms and HS LHPers.
  11. Thanks for the inside information Jeremy. It is always much appreciated. Matt said when he did that mock draft, before the college/HS season started, that Rivera was more of a placeholder than anything. Just trying to say the Astros are taking a guy they can get under slot. Why he picked Rivera instead of other HS guys I have no idea.
  12. Windle is killing it. Man, there are a ton of good LHPers in this draft. I know we talk about windle because he is from MN but there are going to be plenty of solid LHPers (HS or college) in the second round.
  13. All being equal I think we all prefer a college pitcher at 4. Lots of guys are looking like good options but just as fast as they can rise they can fall. Hopefully they all keep rising! Back to Bryant. While I think he isn't a 75/80 power Guy like Sano he does have plenty of power with an advanced hit tool. Even though Bryant is one of my favorites he is going to be a hard sell at 4 if he can stick to 3rd.
  14. While agree Appel> gray, he ain't a bad consolation prize. Just hard to beat Appel and his 3 plus pitches.
  15. I actually think doing a mock like this would be fun. Alternating picks to keep things interesting. I think minorleagueball did a community mock which was pretty awesome last year.
  16. I could definitely see Denny, or meadows for that matter, go #1 at some sort of discount. What the Astros do will be very interesting because it directly effects the twins. At 4 the twins are in an interesting spot. My vote currently is Bryant or gray if they are there. I know people hate the idea of not taking a pitcher but this draft is deep in them. There are going to be some solid LHPers in the second round.
  17. While Denny has the talent to go in the number 4 spot I just can't see it with Gray, Manaea, or Stanek still there. If they wanted a mauer replacement they would have gone zunio under slot last year. It is an interesting take on the Twins pick because I never thought of him there. As for Frazier, while I don't see going for ~3m under slot like Correa, drafting #1 give the team a lot of leverage with the set slot values.
  18. Spoiler alert! Sickels, who is a Twins fan, has them taking a HS bat for a second year in a row. While I personally don't love the pick at 4 I can easily see the first three picks going something like this. Astros taking a HS player who goes under slot, Theo taking Appel, and the Rockies going an advanced college hitter. Leaves the Twins with a ton of interesting options.
  19. Gray pitched a complete game, 12ks 1 ER 3 H 1BB, vs a very good TCU team. He didn't give up a hit till the 6th inning and quoting Chris Crawford at ESPN, "Gray once again hit 100 mph on guns, and his wipeout slider kept the Horned Frogs off-balance all day." For Mr.Crawfords other thoughts on Gray and the other performances of the week insiders can read them in the link below. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/blog/_/name/mlb_draft/id/9095330/oklahoma-jonathan-gray-keeps-dominating-stanford-mark-appel-no-1-prospect-mlb-draft
  20. I don't know if this has already been posted but I found it to be a solid read. Link below: Minnesota Twins may lose 90-plus games again this year ... but should keep lame-duck manager Ron Gardenhire anyway - MLB News | FOX Sports on MSN
  21. Mr.Sickels and Mr.Garrioch over at minorleagueball.com did their first mock draft a few days ago and it is a pretty interesting read. Link below: 2013 MLB Mock Draft Version One - Minor League Ball
  22. The Appel not signing and going back to school debate has been beaten to death and I wont start it hear on Andersons post. While I don't see Anderson in the group of the other top guys I do believe he is in that next tier. Hopefully you are right and he can jump to the next tier because more guys deserving of the #4 pick the better. What is his 4th pitch? I'm asking because I haven't heard anything about it.
  23. Hopefully he finally got himself right. More top end guys in the draft the better.
  24. People go with what experts say because they are experts! They are trained scouts and or work with scouts. Do you ask a cars salesmen for medical advise? Do you ask a teacher for law advise? No, you go to doctors and lawyers. Are they always right? No, but who is? Scouting isn't an exact science. Who cares if "I" "miss" on a Guy "I" like? I dont and sure as hell not the twins. Both guys were very hittable last year but have been dominate this year (Appel being in the harder conference). Appel has a chance to have three plus pitched (fastball 70, slider 65, change up 65) while Anderson has one plus pitch (65 slider) and an above average fastball (55-60). From what I have read Andersons change up is currently average at best. Give me the Guy with the pedigree, more pitches, and better stuff. There is nothing wrong with Anderson and he has a chance to be a good pitcher going forward, but who cares that he was born in Minnesota? I don't.
  25. Agreed. Keep these great updates coming!
