  1. Besides, what message does it send to the team, veterans and especially prospects? That it's OK to give up before you've even reached halftime?
  2. I have to disagree a bit with the "wins are meaningless" angle I'm seeing all around these boards. Tell that to those who are still attending games. If I'm going to pay money to go to the park, I'd like a 40-45% chance of seeing a win, even in a down year. I understand the argument that this is a good year to see what you have coming up, but can we go down that road later in the year, after the all-star break? Let's not pack it in in May; I'd still like to harbor the hope of getting back to .500 for a little while.
  3. I don't know how this compares to previous years, but for what it's worth they said he topped out at 94 today.
  4. He got behind in too many counts for my taste, but he managed to pitch his way out of it, which was a big problem with him earlier in the year. Would like to see a higher strike/ball ratio, but all in all a promising rebirth.
  5. Why not stay with a proven quantity until it doesn't work? Maybe moving up a new guy will work, but maybe it backfires - that does happen sometimes. Because of who we have waiting in Rochester, Gray has little margin for error (and I'm sure he knows that), but his numbers are good enough to stay on the MLB roster. 1-2-3 inning today, including a K.
  6. Given that the trend has been all bad, I'll take this with sugar on top. Easily his best performance of the year, when we needed it most!
  7. Alright, there we go. Now, with a 4 run lead, can Frankie pitch into the seventh (or even the eighth)?
  8. But he HAS to stop going 3-0 to leadoff hitters... Nice recovery, though.
  9. Not the best I've seen Frankie pitch, but so far it is his best start of the year. Hopefully a trend is developing...
  10. OK, I was being a little facetious, but in effect that's what this is turning into, rotating people into and out of the rotation and giving Pavano an extra day rest every other start. And I watched the game last night - DeVries was not "more than great," he had poor control and was lucky not to get hit too hard. Too many breaking pitches that weren't hitting their spots. Once opposing lineups get the book on him, they're going to tee it up unles that changes. I agree he should get another chance, but yesterday was not hope-inspiring.
  11. DeVries really struggled last night, and he was lucky to get through 5. I think he gets one more shot, then we evaluate what we've got in him - my guess is close but not quite good enough for the rotation (which isn't saying much on this club). Given Pavano's fatigue factor this year, what do you bet they go ahead, bring up Hendriks, get Liriano & Blackburn back, and go to a 6-person rotation?
  12. According to LEN3 on Strib site, Dumatrait has decided to retire after trying to rehab his shoulder.
  13. Have no clue as to the reason. In many ways they mimic the big-league club - poor starting pitching. Only about 20% of their starts have been Quality Starts - by far the lowest in the system. Bats aren't as bad, although Michael has been a bit of a disappointment given his draft position and hype. Arcia is starting to wake up a bit. Big story here is St. Lucie Mets who are 40-11 and are just about to clinch the division half title; 2nd place is 16 games back.
  14. For those who follow such things, Fort Myers has now been eliminated from the playoffs for the 1st half of the season. Better luck in the 2nd half, gents!
  15. 5/29 - pitched 1 inning in Fort Myers, 3 up & 3 down, 1 K.
  16. OK, moment of truth - does DeVries go out for the 6th? He's at 92 pitches now, and they sent him out for the 6th last time and it turned out to be a mistake, but he's pitched better the last couple of innings... Do you gamble and try to save the bullpen for Liriano tomorrow?
  17. Boy, do I feel old now:). I remember when Harmon was belting them out in Bloomington and the Metrodome was just an idea fighting for legislative approval (yes, it was just as hard to get a stadium back then). I also remember when the dome opened how neat we all thought it was - boy, did that wear off quickly.
  18. Twins need to put up 3-4 runs so that DeVries can settle down and not be afraid to throw strikes.
  19. Sometimes, but I'm also giving him some credit for having rust - I wouldn't expect a stellar outing for a first rehab. The important thing is to get pitches in and get his game rhythm back. Besides, his numbers tonight aren't that much worse than when he was in the rotation:D
  20. Blackie just got pulled in the 4th inning in Rochester. He was only marginally effective, but I'm guessing pitch count was also an issue. 3.2 innings, 68 pitches (41 strikes), 3 walks, 2 K's, 4 hits, 4 runs (3 earned). After 4 complete, Rochester leads 5-4. Hollimon 2 HRs, Carson 2-RBI double.
  21. Anybody know what's up with the ballcaps? Are the Twins changing back to the "M" logo? I personally liked the "TC" logo - hearkens back to my childhood days at the old Met.
  22. That's the point I was making - he may be the worst member of the pen (although that's a subjective statement), but that only shows all the more that the bullpen is not the problem. Don't mess with what's working; concentrate on fixing what's not working (which is pretty much everything else).
  23. According to Twins website, Washington did indeed take Erik Komatsu back. That was a short ride.
