  1. So does he go out for the seventh? 100 pitches, but if you're trying to generate trade value you need to show he can go 7-8 innings. I bet they send him out, but on a short leash. With the exception of that first inning, he's done well - one base runner per inning, and no real scoring threats. Too bad we haven't put up any run support. Let's see if we can get a couple now to get Frankie the win.
  2. Liriano is starting to pitch behind in the count - not a good sign. Hopefully he can hold it together a couple more innings.
  3. In the interview Ryan gave yesterday, it sounded like he does indeed have somehthing to work out - it isn't just about confidence or getting experience with MLB hitters. If they saw something that needs correction, than Rochester is a good place to work on that, get it down pat, then bring it up to the bigs.
  4. Uh...and that wouldn't be a problem if he was batting ninth? I'm not questioning that Butera is the weakest hitter in the lineup, but that's not going to change no matter what position he bats in. Anyway, you asked for a reason. I gave you a couple - it's common practice with the DH, and Carroll split's. Nobody's saying you have to accept the reasons - trash them if you like.
  5. Per Baseball-Reference - splits for Jamey Carroll Batting 2nd: .223/.320/.259 Batting 7th: .250/.250/.250 Batting 8th: .174/.296/.174 Batting 9th: .262/.331/.322 I think him batting 9th is just fine.
  6. I'm not an expert, but my understanding is, when the DH is being used, you usually put your weakest hitters in the 7 & 8 spots. The 9th spot is used for a better hitter, usually with a good onbase percentage.
  7. Then all the Twins minor league affiliates need to use farm animals as ball delivery vehicles; this could be a new revolution in player development that catches on league-wide.
  8. I have them at 25 right now, after Goncalves arriving. P: Achter, Boer, Bowen, Dean, Dempster, Fuentes, Gonzalez, Hauser, Munoz, Nelson, Stuifbergen, Summers, Tonkin C: Knudson, Pinto IF: Gonzales, Hidalgo, Leer, Michael, Santana OF: Goncalves, Morales, Ortiz, Rams, Ray I think Tosoni is only there as a rehab assignment - he's still listed on New Britain's roster as being on the DL.
  9. Did you have Salcedo going back on the DL?
  10. TR response: "We're just not confident that we can sign him to a long-term deal - we think he would be happier with a different organization." Problem solved.
  11. That's the point - he's not.
  12. I doubt you'll see Hendriks back up this year. Terry Ryan said yesterday that he had gone to see Hendriks pitch and, while the numbers have looked good, he's still doing the same things that got him in trouble in the majors. There are some mistakes you can get away with in Triple-A that you can't in the big leagues. He apparently knows what he needs to work on, but hasn't gotten it figured out yet. It sounds like once he gets that stuff figured out, he can be a stable part of the rotation - nothing flashy, but stable.
  13. And with that, the Twins move within a half-game of 4th place Kansas City! Go Twins! The miracle starts now! Was nice to see them win two in a row, though.
  14. That woman gave the Orioles player way too much respect. If that had been me with a glove, I'd have been right at the edge of the rail, glove stretched up, with shoulder braced to take the collision. Or maybe not.
  15. OK, diving into the stands to make a catch is fine, but as it was the last out of the inning, couldn't he have at least given the ball to the fan he almost knocked down?
  16. Gol-darn Mauer! When is he going to start earning his way around here! P.S. this is tongue in cheek.
  17. And Plouffe has cooled off a little - only two extra base hits in the last two weeks.
  18. Gardy rolled a seven on that one. Gutsy call.
  19. Now that's something I didn't expect - an intentional walk to get to Thome?
  20. And the judges' scores are in: 8 - 8 - 9 - 8 - 2 (the East German judge).
  21. Oh, man, 5 innings in 2:24 - and it's only a 4-4 game. This game is dragging (just like the season).
  22. To actually talk about the game for a change, Deduno has settled down nicely since that first inning. Too bad he's got his pitch count up into the 80s. I must admit I didn't expect this good a start from him. Not lights out spectacular, but he's getting the job done - keeping the score down and giving the hitters a chance.
  23. They did it back when Bert was there too.
  24. Better yet, just stick to calling the game and forget about the cute fluff stuff.
