  1. Nice to see the Twins bats waking up again.
  2. Oh, it figures - this always happens. I step out of the room for a couple of minutes, and the Twins hit a home run.
  3. Nah, don't worry, we got Deduno pitching today. We're only going to need couple of runs to get a win!
  4. I can't speak to baseball in particular, but in general I have found the opposite to be true (and I have been in a position of leading an organization with employees several times). You ALWAYS treat your employees as humans with feelings. You don't try to be their friends, but you make sure that they know that you see them as more than just assets. That's the way you actually get the most production out of them. Yes, ultimately decisions have to be made as to what best enables the organization as a whole to be successful in whatever business it is in, and employees need to understand that (and most of them do), but employee morale is often a big component of overall success, and how you treat people is a big component of morale.
  5. I believe you are correct about this, and was a little bit surprised they both weren't called out yesterday - I think that is clearly what the Kansas City manager was lobbying for.
  6. I didn't watch last night's game (fortunately) but I saw in the box score that Span was replaced by Mastroianni in the 8th inning. This morning I checked the injury report list, and Span is on there day-to-day for dizziness. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but is anybody else concerned about this, given his history of concussion symptons?
  7. My guess is Nishioka would get the nod - he had a slow start, but has been steadily improving this year. His numbers are now getting pretty close to Florimon, and Nishioka is already on the 40-man.
  8. Actually, after 3 days of rest, the medical staff will realize that it wasn't a bruised thumb after all and instead a hamstring injury.
  9. So far all the discussion has been about the full-season leagues. Has there been any thought given to rearranging their short-season leagues? Right now we have two rookie-level teams - Elizabethton and GCL. Would it make sense to have a short-season A team, perhaps in the New York-Penn league?
  10. I'm guessing, from the way you worded your first post, that you started this thread with an assumed correct answer in mind (Kansas City). Before we start anointing them the most promising franchise in baseball, let's just remember that the Kansas City franchise has looked promising for years, but has never really delivered. They have had only one winning season since 1995, and haven't made the playoffs since 1985. The Twins, over that time, have had far more success, and while the next couple of years may be unsatisfying, their track record shows that they know how to build a team that contends. I would also disagree with your statement that they have not started rebuilding and are in denial of the need to do so. Every interview I've heard this year with management shows they know the hole they are in. Their drafting strategy this year, heavy on power-arm pitchers, shows them trying to address identified needs. Just because their rebuilding plan differs from your vision of what it should be doesn't mean they don't have one and are in denial. Time will tell whether or not their plan works. Kansas City's so far hasn't.
  11. The Twins recalled Parmelee today, as Morneau has started his three day paternity leave. Best wishes to Justin and his family!
  12. Did a good job throwing strikes - lot of first pitch strikes and getting ahead in the count. Kept the ball low in the zone until the last inning or so. Threw some cutters, but in general just a good job of mixing pitches. Lot of ground ball outs, and most of the hits were not hit that hard (until the 7th, that is).
  13. Could we work some kind of contract with him where we only pay him for even-numbered years?
  14. Boy, that was a PERFECT throw by Casilla.
  15. Yes! Nice play all around to throw out the runner at the plate.
  16. He got picked off - commited himself before the pitcher started the pitch - easy toss to 3rd got him.
  17. Bruised thumb for Plouffe. Didn't Mauer get sidelined with that for a few games earlier this year?
  18. At least we don't have to play that game of "Should we trade him, re-sign him or let him go?" We're stuck with him for next year, for good or for ill. Let's hope for good.
  19. Hey, if you had told me this afternoon that after seven the game would be tied, and it would be because the offense sucked instead of Blackburn sucking, I wouldn't have believed you. Good night for him - regardless of how this turns out.
  20. Oh, Willingham - gotta get a glove on that. Can't let it go to the wall.
  21. Ron Coomer just echoed my thought - his pitches are starting to get up in the zone. Let's hope he gets out of the inning and sits back for a deserved rest.
  22. I was thinking maybe we can trade him to someone now.
  23. Who woulda thought that Blackburn would pitch 6 shutout innings and not even have one 3-ball count!
  24. This is the critical inning - pitch count rising, heart of the order.
