  1. Likewise.
  2. That doesn't solve the question of what to do with Hicks, though. I don't see any value in putting Borbon in CF and relegating Hicks to the bench OF position in place of Ramirez. Hicks needs regularly at bats, either here or in Rochester. Or are you thinking we should pick up Borbon so that we can be our reserve OF?
  3. Are we talking Michael Trout-level here?
  4. Are we still arguing about this 3 days later? When an issue has been debated to death and the thread has descending into petty bickering, maybe it's time for the thread to be closed/locked.
  5. Remember the good old days when Mauer coming to the plate inspired confidence and hope?
  6. Ooops, I meant Monday and Wednesday. I think I subconsciously blocked out all of yesterday's game.
  7. I do find some comfort in that it wasn't the pitching that let us down the past couple of games, but the batters. I wonder how long before we start getting some "Fire Brunansky" threads?
  8. I would hope the last thing either Gardenhire or Ryan do is make a baseball decision based on a fan forum. If they do, they should be fired.
  9. Trying to keep it close? Not willing to write this game off yet?
  10. Way to waste a lead-off "double". When you get gifts like that, you have to capitalize on them.
  11. I'm sure somebody somewhere down in their preseasons picks. If you put an infinite number of monkeys in front of an infinite number of typewriters for an infinite amount of time, all pecking away randomly, they'll eventually produce the works of Shakespeare.
  12. Next time go ahead and mention those - I could stand to hear a little more:p
  13. This is kind of what I was talking about. And I respectfully disagree with the last sentence.
  14. Yes. That's why I've grown to be skeptical about arguments that are based primarily on statistics. I know how statistics can be massaged to make them say whatever somebody wants. I understand that others in these forums put (much) more stock in statistical analysis. That's fine. More power to them. I guess I'm just tired of having posts hammered down (and I'm not referring to you here; just in general) because I haven't backed them up with a detailed sabermetric discussion. Both statistical analysis and eyewitness/gut feeling need to go into player evaluation, and there should be room on these boards both for those who enjoy detailed statistical discussion and those who wish merely to share an opinion based on what we've seen and watched, without either feeling denigrated by the other. Again, I'm not pointing this at you. I guess this whole thread (among others recently) just highlighted this for me, so I'm venting a little.
  15. The second part of my post was not aimed at you, so I hope you didn't take it that way. It was a general rant of my own aimed at no one (or everyone) in general. And I, also, remember fondly sitting in front of the TV on saturday mornings watching looney toons.
  16. They think we are a color? And addressing the topic of this thread as a whole, let's lighten up a bit. Was it a mistake? Yes. But the level of invective this seems to be causing here far outweighs the seriousness of the offense. It's become a rallying point for everybody who has an axe to grind (real or perceived) against the organization. Proportionality, people.
  17. I think Mr. Benson should worry less about his place in the order and more about getting the job done - 2 for 16 does not inspire confidence no matter where he bats. He has a history of underperforming his potential (or, perhaps, his potential is not what was thought...)
  18. Last year it was the same for everybody. This is the first year it varies based on previous year's record.
  19. That's a valid request to consider, I think. I remember going to the park on a Sunday afternoon as a kid and getting there early to watch Twins BP, and even get a few autographs (back when players still signed autographs for free). This could be a really neat promotion, something they could do a handful of times a season and publicize it in advance. I wonder if anybody in the promotions department reads these forums?
  20. Correct me if I'm wrong, but since Target Field opened the gates have never been opened early enough to watch the Twins take BP. So those who don't want to pay the extra money, they're not missing anything they wouldn't already be missing anyway. In other words, the Twins are offering something extra for extra cash - that's business. You could make the argument that the club has an obligation to make Twins BP available on a general basis for anybody holding a ticket, but since that went out the window long ago, I'm not holding my breath.
  21. No. Best Player Available always. There's nothing wrong with having a surplus of talent at one position - as this off-season showed, you can always use that surplus to trade for immediate needs.
  22. No, I wasn't. That's a mischaracterization of my point and my position, based on one post and that ignores the rest of argument laid out earlier. My whole point was about perhaps we can't use just statistical analysis to decide what is effective pitching and what isn't. Why am I wasting my breath on this?
  23. So how many of us are thinking back to that first inning and Doumit's baserunning mistake?
  24. I have no problem with that either, but once the tying run got in scoring position, it was time to make the change.
  25. Yes, but he wouldn't be getting even those kinds of numbers if he wasn't doing something right on the mound. Bad pitchers don't win more games than they lose - even if it is a team stat. Not on a consistent basis. Besides, isn't the point of the game to win? If we win the game, does anybody really care about his numbers?
