  1. Now that's what I call Teflon pitching - nothing is sticking against him.
  2. OK, Trevor, time to hit in an opportune way!
  3. Given our medical staff, does this surprise you?
  4. Tim Wood is also still sidelined - MRI showed nothing (per Twins website) so he's seeking a second opinion.
  5. I didn't like that movie - they changed the ending from the book.
  6. And today, at least so far, he's done that.
  7. OK, is he really pitching that badly? Yes, high pitch count, and 2 walks, but only two hits, and the only run against was as much on Dozier as Worley.
  8. I think it's 5 0-2 counts, and they all resulted in outs.
  9. OK, quick question - how many people bought a Powerball ticket today? How many thing the Twins should buy one, to help solve their payroll issues?
  10. Remember April, when the Twins stopped giving up first inning runs for a while? Ah, those were the good old days.
  11. Brian Dozier - note to self: Do not throw ball at cameraman.
  12. Do we know which side of his back is sore - left, right, bilateral?
  13. There is only one legitimate reason to promote Gibson at this point - because it's what he needs to continue his development. If that's the case, then do it. If he still needs time in AAA to recover from TJ or to get his game back or whatever, then that's where he should be. He should absolutely not be promoted primarily because of dissatisfaction with the current rotation. This year doesn't matter. We're building for the future.
  14. I concur on Hendrix - the acclaim of his peers speaks volumes. That being said, I'm more of a Led Zeppelin man myself.
  15. Agree wholeheartedly with this. Sometimes people forget that life is not digital; sometimes the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I can take the sheet music and play the notes of a Beethoven Sonata, but that doesn't mean I can create music. There is an intangible that separates the true virtuoso performance from the mere repetition of notes in the correct sequence and tempo. I think the same is true of being a GM in sports. You can't just plug numbers into an equation and get a correct answer. There is an indefinable quality that some GMs have and some don't (think David Kahn). In the past, TR seems to have had that quality. Whether he still does or not will be determined in part by how the rest of the season plays out
  16. There was a lot of hand-wringing last year about what the Twins did and did not do in the free agent market, most of which was based upon analysis of previous statistics and predictions based on them for the coming season. As I'm always reminded when I invest in a mutual fund, past results are no guarantee of future performance. Any idiot with a computer can make FA decisions based merely on past results. The truly effective GMs, the ones who stand the test of time, are those who, while consulting historical numbers, are able to look beyond them and correctly anticipate future results, both positive and negative, and make decisions based on those anticipated results. I agree it's still too early to call this year a success (or a failure). But so far TR is looking smarter than his competitors.
  17. Adam Dunn and Dayan Viciendo don't seem to have that trouble today.
  18. I'm "watching" this via MLB gameday - it looks like Pelfrey's sinker isn't. Is he leaving stuff up in the zone?
  19. Thank you. This is an aspect I hadn't really considered but it makes a lot of sense. Preventive medicine, as opposed to waiting until you're really sick and then going to the ER.
  20. So what? It's not like Pelfrey is going to need any more than that. Is he...?
  21. Oh, sure, jinx the whole thing before the first inning is even over.
  22. Thank you; that's helpful to consider and chew on. In general, I'm coming to the conclusion that, at least with who we have on the staff right now, it should perhaps be a "standing rule" that whenever a starter goes into the 8th, and the game is within 2 runs or tied, then the bullpen should be going regardless, just in case, so a change can be made the moment there is a base-runner. I do wonder if Gardenhire was looking ahead and assuming he was going to need more from his pen today, with Pelfrey going in an afternoon game.
  23. I was trying to not make this about Gardenhire. I am genuinely curious as to what the conventional wisdom is on this topic? I'm hoping to learn more about the game. Taking a particular situation and looking back in time and saying the manager should have done something differently isn't really helpful without more information. In your discussion last night, what was the reason people were giving? Were they seeing signs that Correia was tired? Were they concerned with the pitch count? Did they think that Correia had been skating by on luck last night and they trusted the bullpen more? What was the thought process?
