  1. That's what you get when you bring in Duensing with runners in scoring position. Forget Carnac - I could have predicted that.
  2. Is it just me, or has this thread wandered into the Twilight Zone?
  3. Now THAT has been a long time coming!
  4. I thought that was Pelfrey...or Diamond...or Worley...or - never mind.
  5. Prime rib Baked Potato Assorted Greens Soup Apple Crisp Or, at least that's what I had tonight.
  6. Is it my imagination, or is Correia looking like a MLB pitcher?
  7. Oh goody! Now we can have fun next year debating whether Stewart is being moved up to Cedar Rapids fast enough, and whether he's wasting his limited innings in short-season leagues.
  8. Did his red cape get in the way at all?
  9. To be fair, doesn't everybody try to avoid taxes? Love the second part.
  10. I went to the MLB site, and I didn't see anything on the front page critiquing Gardenhire - could you post a link to what you are referring to? And doesn't that last sentence basically contradict itself?
  11. I'm familiar with the 50% part - where does the $213M number come from? Since the Twins are privately owned, I wasn't aware their books were public knowledge. Was this made public somewhere - other than Forbes which is basically a guess?
  12. Agreed. Think how it would have been if the Twins hadn't won last night.
  13. That was tried with a football (soccer) club in England - they went belly up.
  14. You'll have to explain this further - who lost 11 games, and how is that determined?
  15. Good to see him settling down, though I am not surprised. I saw him play last year in New Britain; he made the Rockcats batters (including Arcia, Benson & Colabello) look downright foolish.
  16. This was my question. Is there something different about this meeting other than a normal mid-season review? Of course, if the Twins hadn't been doing this in past years and this was a first, that would be a big story.
  17. Loved the title of the article. It does bring to mind one way we can finally beat the Yankees - make a deal with the devil.
  18. The first two are secondhand quotes; the last two aren't quotes at all - just repeating conventional wisdom. I still haven't seen anything from a Twins staffer saying right out that there is a set limit that is fixed and won't be exceeded, like Strasburg last year. There may indeed be a ballpark/target figure, but that's different than having a hard limit.
  19. Let's keep in mind that that 130-inning thing is just a ballpark figure. While it was reported secondhand, I've yet to see a quote direct from a Twins official giving any sort of figure. And even the secondhand quote said 130-140, and that was in February before they even knew how Gibson's arm was going to respond. He'll get some MLB time this year, and he'll be with the club from day one next year.
  20. After that performance last year, I have no doubt AP can do pretty darn much anything he decides he wants to do.
  21. To be honest, did the Twins brass ever see Pelfrey as any more than a placeholder getting them through to when Gibson (& Meyer & maybe May) were ready? I always saw him as insurance in case Gibson had a setback on his recovery rather than somebody the organization was planning to build around. So in that sense, if he can just not suck, he's giving the Twins what they paid for, and he's starting to not suck. And I doubt we'll get anything for him at the trade deadline, not with him being a free agent next year anyway. He'll be insurance to the end of the year and then we'll part ways, hopefully amicably.
  22. I decided to add a second post this week, ruminating on the future. Offensively Kyle seems to be coming alive this year and is breaking out a bit compared to his historical averages. Hopefully this is the sign of a late-maturing player finally coming into his own, and not just a fluke that will revert to his typical numbers. Even if it is a sign of a late-bloomer, however, one has to wonder what the future may hold, at least as a Minnesota Twin. Right now the catcher position is one at which the organization is flush. While Doumit's future may well be elsewhere, and while Mauer may eventually transition to 1st, and even putting aside the lightning-rod that is Drew Butera, there are still many catchers in the organization that probably rank above Kyle on the pecking list - Herrmann, Pinto, Koch, and then the whole new trio they have drafted and signed this year. I find myself wondering if Kyle will be able to claw his way ahead in the organization's lists, or if his dreams of major league play will only come true at another organization. Only time will tell.
  23. As to be expected, Kyle didn't get as much playing time this week - that's the downside to being promoted to AA to be a backup to Josmil Pinto, who is on the 40-man roster. Kyle did play in two games, going 1-for-4 on Thursday and going 3-for-5 in the first game Saturday (including 4 RBI). That moves his AA numbers to .318/.385/.318, very respectable but not yet showing the power he did in Fort Myers. Still, Kyle has to be encouraged that he is apparently starting to figure out AA pitching. Overall he is .351/.426/.447. Defensively is still a bit of a struggle, giving up another stolen base and another error for catcher interference on Thursday. Runners have now stolen 6 out of 7 tries since Kyle's move to New Britain, and that will be an area of his game he will need to be mindful of.
  24. Gibson was inconsistent earlier, but he has done well the past 5 starts. So has Albers. Gibson does have better numbers over the past 28 days, although not by much, so I would be happy either way. Since in general I don't buy into the whole conspiracy theory or that the team has favorites and/or people they just don't like, there could be a couple of other factors involved as well. Gibson is recovering from TJ surgery, and it is entirely possible that they see something in his delivery/starts that gives them pause to pull the trigger quite yet, something that wouldn't show up in AAA numbers but would in MLB numbers. Also, Albers is a leftie, so particularly if Diamond is looking at being taken out of the rotation, that could also be a factor. Again, all speculation, but I guess I just don't see this as some nefarious plot.
  25. OK, I don't mind pessimism, but this is a bit over the top, in my opinion. When did this become about "sides"? Does it have to be optimism vs pessimism? And accusing the organization of lying and fans of being willing to wallow does not promote respectful debate; it does the opposite.
