  1. So basically your position is that the Twins should have made a FA acquisition for CF before the season started, or shortly after it did, or possibly not traded Span and/or Revere. I'm going to disagree. We knew it would be weak, but between Hicks, Ramirez & Mastroianni I thought we would be OK, so I'm OK with not adding. We're basically waiting for Buxton at that position anyway, and Hicks seemed to be a good stopgap (and I think may still be so with a little more experience). Benson had his chance to make the position his in ST and fell on his face, and continued doing so in Rocheser. And Borbon, by the way, is not exactly lighting up the scoreboard at his new team (Chicago NL), with a .591 OPS. And I'm not going to address the WAR argument, because I think the metric is inherently flawed and doesn't add to my understanding of baseball. I'll accept other metrics for discussion but not WAR.
  2. More likely Mauer will keep #7 and Buxton will be issued #007 - licensed to kill baseballs.
  3. What would you have done different? It's not like the Twins can decide who gets injured and who doesn't. This is just one of those situations where you have multiple injuries at one position. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. When that happens, most franchises have to struggle to fill the spot until some of the injuries get resolved.
  4. The disadvantage of being promoted as a backup is you don't get to play as often as you would hope, particularly when you are backing up Josmil Pinto, who is on the 40-man roster and is angling for a spot on the big club. Kyle got into two games last week. The good news is that he's starting to figure out Double-A pitching, going 4-for-9 overall, thanks to a super 3-hit Saturday where he knocked in 4 runs. His Double-A stats are .278/.300/.278; not what he was doing in Fort Myers but still showing improvement. Overall he is at .344/.412/.444. Defensively another so-so week, with a stolen base and a catcher's interference call on Thursday.
  5. Top two teams qualify for the playoffs - they are 4 games up over the 3rd place team.
  6. I've seen the same thing with IE10. Usually I use Chrome, but during the game I have to use IE10. I'm streaming the game via MLB.tv, and Chrome just seems to take up too many resources - the streaming feed inevitably crashes and I have to restart the game. IE10 doesn't have the same problem, so short of buying a new computer I'm stuck with IE10 whenever the game is on.
  7. I'm one of those 5% that Riverbrian talked about that is not knowledgeable about the game, i.e. never played or coached it. That being said, I am very well versed in the art of debate and logic. For me the original sentence of the thread title is a legitimate question to debate - how deep into the game should pitchers go, and how should that be customized for each starter based on ability and history. At least for me, however, the second sentence of the title of the thread completely destroyed any credibility the first sentence created. It indicated that what would follow would not be a respectful discussion and analysis but the exact opposite. Whatever the background of the OP, I'm fairly sure it doesn't match Gardenhire's experience and pedigree. To be sure, Gardenhire's decisions as manager are entirely fair game for critique - that goes with the territory of being a MLB manager. But it should be done with respect, not with what I perceived as smugness.
  8. For what it's worth, MLB.com had problems last night too.
  9. I'm sure glad the Twins have started incorporating medical analysis into their pre-draft work.
  10. I see that KC just drafted Sean Manaea - pick 34.
  11. Well, all in all, a tie game after six innings of Pelfrey is a good thing. If we see him in the seventh, though, it's criminal negligence.
  12. Anderson to Pelfrey: "Hey Mike, I've got an idea. This time why don't you try not falling completely apart in the sixth inning. Just for variety sake."
  13. I don't know about you, but I'm going to blame it on Drew Butera.
  14. Pelfrey solid through three. (I missed the bottom of the 2nd, due to technical difficulties, so it doesn't count).
  15. That's because you're taking her out to a swanky restaurant, right? Right?
  16. I'm not sure if I want to laugh or cry...
  17. Remember the good old days, when loading the bases inspired hope rather than trepidation?
  18. Yep. I've gone to watching it on my smartphone.
  19. Well. I feel better. Bert likes what he's seeing from Pelfrey tonight.
  20. Yeah, I wanted something that reflected my changed life. Idaho because that's where I live. Pilgrim because I am on a journey, seeking to proclaim the Minnesota Twins out here in the "wilderness" and seeking the promised land (World Series glory for our Twins).
  21. Probably my church's rummage sale.
  22. Armchair quarterbacking is a part of our cultural heritage. I even think it's tucked into the Bill of Rights somewhere.
