    Hicks

Yeesh. Thanks for that second look. I remember noting that he misjudged the direction of the ball at the time, but that was a terrible route. But especially given his typical trepidations around fences, you're right, he doesn't catch it either way. (Notwithstanding, he's still a dynamically different player out there relative to the previous 2 seasons, who apparently has directly benefited from stints in AAA. It's like a curse has been entirely lifted from his body.)
  2. You've evidently written off Arcia. LEN3 has written off Vargas. Dozens doubt either Polanco or Santana can stick at SS. And no heir apparent at C?
  3. I agree, but I would understand it better if the Twins obviously had an action plan for him. Molitor's comments indicate that they really have no obvious role in mind for him at this point. It's mind-boggling that the guy with the best overall peripherals among the SPs, and #2 overall in K%, and highest WAR among all Twins pitchers is actually currently on the knife edge between, on one hand, AAA exile , and on the other hand, grudging role-ess RP afterthought. And it's not as if this current difficult situation snuck up on them, they've known about just this type of potentiality from the day that Ervin was suspended.
  4. Not sure how starting in games up to 4-5 times per week, plus assurances that he get into the rest of the games he doesn't start, is legitimately categorized as "inconsistent play time". That schedule is pretty close to the best possible compromise of playing time for upgrading the net team offensive attack between multiple player options. (But I can see where Molitor has some reservations- the OF defense is vastly improved since Arcia's demotion).
  5. Yes... And as Molitor implied in his comments that I also quoted. You two look like you are on the same page.
  6. via Bollinger: May will stay in the bullpen, for now, anyway: It appears he's still weighing the option of May becoming the short-term set-up man, but that opinions are varied on if he can handle it, or if it's the right thing to do with him. Regarding his second comment- Is that an indication that a Pelfrey trade might still be under consideration?
  7. Via Bollinger: Molitor quote on any thought of a pending Arcia call-up: Not exactly the endorsement that Sano received when in mid-June that Molitor mentioned that Sano could be called up in as early as two weeks. Sounds a lot more like a depth option at this point (but leaving himself an "out" should it become more obvious that an additional LHB is needed?). Do the Twins really want to continue with the status quo offensively and not look for a post-ASG power-hitting upgrade? Looks like the answer to that question is "Yes", at least for the time being.
  8. Buck might spend a week or so on rehab at AAA. And if you really believe that Buxton won't make it at the major league level based solely on his brief MLB debut, I would say you have not appreciated the circumstances of his first MLB PAs (facing very tough pitching right out of the chute), plus the manner in which Buxton adjusts to the next competitive level (usually takes about a month to really get rolling). He won't be a bust, he won't be just an OK MLB hitter, he'll be good, to very good, at the plate. Add that to his elite defense and speed, and you'll have one of the top players in the game. Just give it a little more time than just the handful of games played thus far. (In actuality, Buck's biggest hurdle to achieving MLB stardom will be staying healthy, not his hit tool).
  9. Nick Gordon is playing Cedar Rapids- A ball- not High A- Ft Myers.

    Wow!

Kent Hrbek in the run-up to Opening Day this year, dated April 4, 2015. You could look it up: Folks, we may be on the start of a magical run, here, ala 87 or 91.
  11. Arcia drew 2 walks tonight- and 7 HR in 10 days with a .366 BA and a 1.365 OPS qualifies as dominating in any league, Arcia has basically done this type of yo-yo gig between AAA and MLB for the third time now, and the previous two times he had immediate impact upon call-up. Let's play the odds on the hot hand here. You're right though, it would be a waste to just be a bench bat. I would hope that Molitor and Ryan would be a little more imaginative than that. As far as current DH status goes Vargas- DH in Siberia (er, Chattanooga). Sano- DH in name only currently and temporarily, due to positional need. Arcia- DH job opening available to him- on a split-time, 50-50 basis playing corner OF the other 50%. Problem solved once Santana is sent down.
  12. If ir was construed that I suggested that Arcia should be out against all LHPs, that was not my intent. For his career, Arcia has just about an equal split against both LHSP and RHSP. My hope would be that he be called up with the intent to play approximately 2 games in the OF/wk, DH 1-2/wk, PH/Bench bat 2-3 games/wk. And I think there's room for both Rosario and Arcia for now (with Santana going down and Escobar back to SS). When Buxton returns. a decision would have to be made- let's see if Rosario can get out of this short-term funk and force the manager to make a decision on Robinson. As far as Nunez goes, I fear you're right, but I would hope that Arcia gets a ton of obvious PH opportunities against RH- he's career .807 OPS vs. all righties and only .614 vs. all lefties.
  13. 7:45 PM..... Arcia just hit 7 HR in the month of July, plus a double (that's 7 HR, 2 doubles in 41 ABs). It's hard to ignore that kind of ridiculous production outbreak from a LH bat just a phone call away. I have a feeling that he may be called up as soon as the end of the All Star break.
  14. Not relevant or an accurate description of the situation. The score could have been effectively 0-0 once Price left the game. With May and Perkins vs. Detroit pen- Advantage: MN Twins. They had a chance to steal a game where the odds were against them and were destined to lose given Price's history vs. the Twins. A team going for a playoff spot has to seize those types of opportunities.
  15. The Duke case is not an isolated event. "Not much to be gained???" The problem is the accuser needs to have a lot more to lose in making such scurrilous claims. Virtually the entire Duke faculty in lock-step fashion assumed the worst- as is usually the case on hyper-radicalized campuses, notwithstanding the lack of veracity of the charges. The damages done to the accused- in this particular case- and countless others- are far greater than just some poor kid having to switch schools. Many other cases are overturned in court as soon as witnesses, emails and texts are shown that the accuser is daffy, lying, or both. But the damage is already done, the faculty at the shool in question refuses to apologize or disavow their underlying narrative on the "rape epidemic" on campuses. (Innocent) iives are turned upside down reputations forever ruined, huge financial legal fees added to already-crushing tuition burdens, job opportunities completely lost for good.
  16. You're just digging deeper and deeper here. This is a defense of the indefensible for a team- in the thick of a pennant race, against a prime competitor and defending AL Central champ, with a chance to beat their Ace, in a very winnable game once you get to their pen.
  17. He SHOULD have been warming up at the start of the inning. It was a TIE. GAME. That was exactly the situation you want May at the ready.
  18. More fragile flower nonsense, if they really believe that. Purposely reducing the chances to win winnable games- like last Sunday and yesterday is indefensible. May in 2015- K% in High Lev- 27% K% w/ RISP and 2 outs- 22% Slashline w/ RISP and 2 outs- .200/.250/.367
  19. They apparently prefer to now have two fragile flowers in the pen that they refuse to use in certain game-winning situations (May and Graham), despite knowing how shaky Boyer, Fien and the others are, and pushing starters into less than optimal scenarios in late-game situations. Even the explanation that Pelfrey is going to be traded at the break makes little sense, is May really going to be "damaged" by making a couple of extra relief appearances this week?
  20. Arcia doesn't need to top Nunez in OPS (although given both of their histories, he could easily top Nunez head-to-head over the rest of the season). Arcia brings an offensively different dynamic to the lineup than Nunez can offer, plus he's a left-handed power bat that is sorely missing at the moment. Two of your prospects are scuffling badly at the moment, a change of scenery seems imminent for Santana, Rosario could be replaced by Buxton if he continues his recent struggles. The door is opening ever-wider for Arcia.
  21. "T-Ball"... Apt. I like it.
  22. Molitor IS a huge fan of going with the hot bat. As I've illustrated, Arcia has a history of coming off of a hot streak at AAA directly to a hot streak in the majors. You touted Rosarios .689 OPS.... but failed to note that In his last 17 games, Rosario (predictably) has slumped badly: .210/.246/.306/(.560). It doesn't hurt to take your chances with Arcia as an alternative hot bat while Rosario regroups, the drop-off in defense would be negated if Arcia comes in and does what he's done after previous call-ups coming off of a hot streak in AAA.
  23. ???? Uhh, they didn't win yesterday. The Twins failed to put him in a game in a logical situation on his scheduled bullpen day. And he certainly could have thrown the 9th inning in the loss against KC on Sunday. And why wouldn't you bring your best option to get a K not named Glen Perkins into a mid-inning RISP situation?
  24. Actually, I would have liked May to throw that 8th inning and beyond in a tie game better than any other option available to Molitor.I'm surprised a guy as cerebral as Paul doesn't see what he had available to him last night that could have avoided that loss.Once the Twins got to the Tiger pen, I'd take May and then Perk over anything Detroit could put in to pitch.
  25. I really don't see Rosario affected too much by an Arcia promotion. Optimally, two of three, Rosario. Buxton and Hicks are in the OF at all times. Arcia would be a lower liability in RF and spell Hunter 2-3X week (he turns 40 soon, and it's showing a little bit), but he could also play in LF with Rosario in RF. Not perfect, but the Twins main problem right now is scoring runs, Arcia can help solve that and provide another power bat in the middle of the lineup when he starts as well as a late-inning PH option.
