  1. Jeremy's 4th option isn't the slight bit disconcerting towards your argument?
  2. Buxton aint Hicks...
  3. It isn't that hard to undestand that Buxton's ceiling is drastically higher than Hicks, his work ethic, baseball IQ and career velocity are on entirely different planes than Hicks'.
  4. Yep. but it's pretty headscratching that saving options for Buxton is an option worth consideration. If he has to use all 3 options, then something else has gone spectacularly wrong.
  5. After you just went off on him with an alleged laundry list of reasons why he should have been demoted... So in one week, he's going to solve your entire litany? And I think you are way overvaluing a cheerleader's role and his "grit" as the key to winning ANY more games.
  6. Darn right he can, and his velocity is 15 MPH faster than ShugahShane.
  7. Terry Ryan might prove your point, as he apparently attempts to save service time on Buck... but you're negelcting the fact that on every performance dynamic, except at the plate, he's already MLB elite, or close to elite. His fastest route to being fully MLB "ready" is for him to be hitting every day against MLB pitching. It's his only remaining hurdle, and AAA pitching isn't a substitute for that. He's got all of the other parts down pat at this point, nothing gained at AAA- and assuming he knows how to slide now ... he would still be a 2-3 WAR player over a full season, even if he only OPS'd around .600 (Billy Hamilton is OPSing at .548 and he has a 1.6 fWAR currently). Buck's history shows he has a steep learning curve and will quickly eclipse Hamilton, let's get that curve fired up sooner rather than later.
  8. Holy buckets. That's a whole lot of assumptions in one post, and for just one Monday in August.
  9. Who said there were any good arguments?
  10. Buxton aint Hicks.
  11. If I had a nickel for every time Terry failed to follow through on one of these condiitoinal warnings we give him... He's 5-12, plus 2 walks, and with a 1.000 OPS in his 3 games, thus far. his timing and pitch recognition seem to be just fine. This smacks of a lot of something else besides protecting his injured wrist.
  12. Buxton aint Hicks.
  13. Why start now?
  14. Are there any others who look like "odd men out". (Don't need to name names, but have to ask since there are a few guys at E-Town knocking on the door...)
  15. Since Arcia is out of options, I get the feeling that both sides are more or less resigned to a parting of the ways in the offseason.
  16. Thanks, JC, for the eyes-on report. What do you make of the huge strides he's made on the basepaths? Is he: one of those guys who works extra to refine his game...? one of those guys who is a sponge for coaching... ? finally growing into his body...?
  17. Good call. Hughes had never pitched 210 innings before, his previous high was 191, 3rd most was 176, after that, much much lower, his totatl this year is within 1 IP of his 4th most innings pitched- he just doesn't have the history of a reliable big innings eater. He looked pretty shell-shocked in the dugout after getting taken out on Saturday. The Twins owe him over $50M through 2019, discretion around potential injury seems prudent.
  18. For further reference, the Cubs also have one additional player on the DL who will be under 26 in 2016. And four more players on the 40-man who have an excellent chance to make the 25 man in 2016. That would potentially make 9- and there are at least 3 more who will likely be added to the 40-man who could play next year. Having the potential to roster more than one third, up to almost one half of a 25-man made up of young players is pretty significant. Similarly, the Astros have 6 additional players that will be under 26 on their 40-man, with a passel-full of players besides who may be added to the roster by next year. (From the Appy League level on up, the Astros farm system teams have the best overall record in their respective minor leagues, save one.) These two teams are winning, stocked, and young, and soon getting even younger. (Or soon dealing a lot of prospects for proven major league talent).
  19. This is actually the 4th year of rebuilding... I know, I know, seen like they are all starting to run together)
  20. http://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/masonry/000/540/667/795.gif I think it is a key missing element from the OP... so, "yes", in a good way. Wake up Twins management and see your obvious blunder for what it was.
  21. And as Nick Nelson has noted in his just posted article, as sad as it is to say, Mike Pelfrey has the Twins best SP ERA/FIP (4.30/3.80)... over the last 30 days... and 2nd place is not even close. Texas is next on the docket- they were already the second-hottest team in the AL, and now they've added Cole Hamels- who just so happens to be facing the Twins on Thursday, This is looking lke it's going to go from really bad to downright ugly... Apathy? Pfft. 5th straight season of 90 losses is now back on the table for discussion.
  22. And I'm not saying that is where Vielma ends up, just that his ceiling should probably be set higher than Bernier- and that's strictly based on the opinions expressed by the "experts", along with the hint of budding offensive competence that Engelb has demonstrated over the last two months or so. Even if he ends up playing, say 5-8 years in the majors mostly as a quality utility guy, that will easily top Bernier's professional career.
  23. In regards to Hughes, he has been complaining about a "dead arm" for quite some time. It was reported today that he was struggling to reach 90 MPH. He has been trending downward in velocity since his second start of the season. Something is definitely wrong with him.
