  1. Even better than magically super unicornness, I like Jeremy's description best, and why I think we have a once in a generation type talent on our hands here: "Fantastic Torii Hunter floor and a ceiling that can't hold back (Big Time Buxton)..."
  2. Actually, their bats are a lot better lately. They are OPSing @ .671 in June compared to a .618 OPS for the entire season. Giancarlo Stanton and Logan Morrison are back from injury and Justin Ruggiano is on fire in June with a .903 OPS. They just took 3 of 4 from the Giants on the road and Ruggiano was a key component. Speaking of someone on fire, Jose Fernandez is a beast at age 20. He's only had one bad start in 10 games since his mediocre start against the Twins. He's knocked 1.50 runs off his ERA since then. Mike Redmond has actually done a pretty decent job so far with this kiddie-corps. In their last 21 games, the Marlins are 12-9. And now as a "thank you" to Mike, Jeffrey Loria is actively trying to get rid of his last high dollar salary from the starting rotation, Ricky Nolasco- that will reduce the entire Marlins active player payroll close to what Joe Mauer makes alone. Tonight's game looks like the tougher of the 2 to take from the Marlins.
  3. I would never ridicule you, OG. Making this jump to AA is the most difficult one for many prospects, as most pitchers at this level have gotten their stuff together enough to be considered for the majors. The point some of us have been trying to make, was that both last year and this year, Sano clearly demonstrated that he was above the levels he was playing at. It was time to give him a taste of High A last year and it's past time for Sano to be at AA this year. Now he's there, now he finally gets to make the biggest adjustments at the plate of his career thus far. He currently is being asked to do it without much plate protection behind him. That makes for a good challenge for him to go about solving. Let's revisit this in a month and see how he's doing. I'm pretty confident it's going to work out just fine.
  4. This. Hendriks is pretty much the poster boy for why you need your best prospects up to face the real thing and answering those lingering questions and then hopefully, solving the inevitable issues that pop up, sooner, rather than later.
  5. Or turn out to have notions that have basis in fact and past observation- especially as the sample sizes become more predictive.
  6. I remember it well, and you're right......Who knew?
  7. I'd be all-in for what you propose. It fulfills two purposes, it would be fun and it would help to answer some more questions---- Correia and Diamond's ability to effectively pitch a full season? and for H, W and A, where they fit in the equation going into the 2013-14 offseason? And maybe throw May in there for a make-up game or DH spot start or 2 or 3.
  8. Come August 31, Kyle will be rotating between Mai Tais and Melon Coladas in Ft Myers..... Hopefully, his beachful bliss comes after 6-9 starts that will have offered the first linchpin of legitimate hope that this franchise can turn itself around and field a starting pitching staff that doesn't have the worst ERA in baseball. Other than Gibbie, what I'd like to see happen with the rotation and what is likely to happen are probably 2 very different things. I don't want to come off as negative or anything:p....., but I'm guessing that Albers gets Gibson's spot when he is finally shut down and Bagger Vance regains a rotation spot at some point over whomever is no longer cutting it or is shut down (Pelfrey, Walters immediately come to mind). Other than that, probably little else will change. Come September 1, I hope that May is healthy enough to get a call-up for 4 starts or so.
  9. That Antony response must have been his response to Phil Mackey who a little earlier made this comment: "Prior to this season, general manager Terry Ryan said the team would likely limit Gibson's innings to 130 or 140, so as to not put too much strain on his surgically-repaired elbow. It is believed the Twins could be flexible with that limit, but even if they are it's likely Gibson won't pitch much beyond early- to mid-August. " Following the cuurrent Twins starting pitching schedule, and assuming it goes exactly as scheduled in the 5 man rotation, Gibson would be making his 9th start on August 14- and assuming he goes 6 innings per start, it would put him right around 150 innings on the season.
  10. I think the "We" can be both or one or the other. "We" are all going to find out together soon enough. I'm just excited that "we've" turned this page and now "We" can move on and find evidence to provide more answers instead of having to wonder and ask more questions.
  11. Fair enough. The tone came off to me as unnecessarily confrontational in response to pretty reasonable and fairly straightforward statements that seemed, to me anyway, to need little more clarification.
  12. 1) I've yet to find any post that said that the only possible truth for Gibson was 130 IPs. 2a) I've yet to find any post that said that there wasn't any sort of plan at all. What was said was that the Twins public statements about their plan for Gibson did vary quite a bit from Sprint Training to late June. 2b) I've yet to find anyone say that there weren't any justifiable reasons to keep Gibson in AAA. Some of the reasons they offered turned out not to be justifiable. And, regarding Super 2 status, of course that was a viable reason and was thoroughly fleshed out on TD, but this was one reason that the Twins FO publicly denied was being taken into consideration (and we can blame the CBA for that, not the Twins).
  13. I thought you said you were going to respect the admins rules and avoid humorous and unnecessary and constant negativity and contention. This is what Puck was talking about with the two-way street. I don't want to speak for Levi, but he made perfectly reasonable suppositions, which you then chose to pick apart and jump all over instead of responding in a civil manner. Post # 142:
  14. Hey! That's better than a 50% improvement. Baby steps, I'll take it. It's good to see that he's keeping a low profile and going about his business in trying to re-find his 2011 stuff. At age 25, there's a good chance he'll get another shot this season to redeem himself with the Twins at the major league level. It would be nice to know something more definitive about him, like Gibson, going into 2014.
  15. This time on a serous note, I just re-scanned the 40 man roster. I don't see the multiple options at 1B- Chris Colabello, I guess, who is a far bigger question mark than Parmelee. And if Morneau is indeed likely gone after this season, the Twins will have to have a stop-gap everyday 1B option until someone is ready to come up, it sure seems unlikely that they will go out and sign a FA at 1st. It would be nice to know if, at minimum, that Parmelee can fill that stop-gap role for the next year or so. I'm mostly meh on Parm long-term, but he is only 25, and verdicts handed out at that age often prove to be premature- right now he looks to be somewhere inbetween Jason Kubel (.797 OPS/113 OPS+) ) and Jason Tyner (.637 OPS/71 OPS+), Chris is currently leaning much more towards Kubel (.746 OPS/105 OPS+). I think it's worth a full season's worth of PAs to find out if he can at least be the stop-gap first baseman.
  16. Wow. What a relief! I get what you're doing here, magnifying the insult level- pure genius at work here, hammer- Tony Robbins is a shrinking violet by comparison. You've now insured the spell will not be broken for yet another game. Does Parm have you on as his life coach, yet?
  17. By all means, stringer, carry on! I was a little worried when Willinghammer failed to castigate Parms yesterday. After another good performance on Sunday, I was thinking he had blasted Chris more than enough in the previous 2 days, plus the body of work in "Time to send Parmelee down" thread, to insure that Parmelee would stay hot for at least another week. And now it turns out, your additional "consistent negativity" has also provided fuel for the fire. Keep it up! ( I am going to follow through with this, and I fully expect Stringerbell dressing-downs of both, branding them as AAAA suspects, that have no place on the roster, followed of course, by shutout gems, at a minimum, in Diamond's and Walters' next starts).
  18. So now we have opposing camps set up among the mods and admins.... Glunn and Brock have laid the down their own philosophical gauntlets, seemingly in diametric opposition to one another. Perhaps a Twins Themed Poetry Slam is in order to determine the Wall of Fame positioning? It can be billed as: TD Internal Angst The Techie Nerd vs. The Laid-back Lawyer---- to riff on the pressing TD Topic of the Day---- "I've Seen the Negativity and the Damage Done---Is There Really a Little Part of it in Everyone?"
  19. I just hope that Buxton is leading off in front of that Murderer's Row!
  20. Don't tell me that Joe was on a rehab assignment, too?
  21. Good info, but inaccurate on Mike Trout. Trout played 2 levels at age 17- Rk & Low-A. Played 2 levels at age 18- A & A+. Played 2 levels, including AA and a Major League call-up at 19. Next year- called up from short-stint @ AAA for good at age 20. Sano played GCL at 17. Played Rookie Ball only at 18. Played low-A ball only at 19. Is playing 2 levels for the first time at age 20. Next year @ 21? TBD- but a possible major league call-up would then be in his 5th year of professional ball. Buxton played 2 rookie levels at 18. Is playing A and A+ at 19. Next year @ 20? A+ repeat- or promote to AA- to start out? If it goes really well at AA, he could get a call-up next year @ age 20. I would love to see it, but it hasn't exactly been the Twins Way over time- Joe Mauer made it up just two weeks short of his 21st birthday- in his 4th year as a pro.
  22. Some on this thread would probably suggest that the Twins letting Gibbie throw 160 innings wouldn't be prudent. Given that he pitched in the Arizona Fall League, I think some level of caution is probably in order. Obviously, the more innings he can safely get under his belt, without a risk for a setback with his arm, the better.
  23. Everything you suggest is quite possible, perhaps probable, except, it seems highly unlikely that the circumspect Twins will offer anything close to the opportunity for Gibson to make 10-12 starts. And what makes you think there's a legion of green-eyeshade-wearers that are expecting an Ace right out of the box? I haven't read one post yet that has made or suggested that claim.
  24. I hereby nominate this post for the #1 position on the TD Wall of Fame.
