  1. I don't think anyone is asking for prescience. Worley was clearly the proto-typical Ryan-type acquisition in a buy-low deal...both Worley and May were coming off of hugely disappointing seasons after showing great promise in the previous year. In hindsight, it's pretty clear that the Twins took a huge leap of faith into the bargain bin and made some wildly incorrect assumptions about Worley's make-up and overall commitment and health.
  2. Yeah, I saw that, and I didn't want to pile on with the "love notes" in my post.... Perhaps Vance was just living up to his nickname while with the Twins and just "bagging" it? (No doubt due to his "love" for the National League?)
  3. Vargas goes yard again today, it's going to be hard to keep him from going to where he's needed in the pennant race in Rochester, if not Minnesota.
  4. Parmelee? Guerrier? (Trade for C prospect a possibility?) Swarzak? (Same as above) Thielbar?
  5. There's no given that Plouffe is only out for two weeks, or that Nunez is ready to play right away- he may also need a trip to the DL. The Twins say they are going for it, why not try to make it an issue by attempting to upgrade the situation from Florimon?- a guy who is currently struggling at epic proportions, both at the plate and in the field. If the Twins prefer a defensive utility back-up, Doug Bernier should be their guy, he can play all infield positions competently, and he's clearly a better hitter than Florimon. If they want a stick, give Romero a shot. Either way, the team is better for the duration of the Plouffe/Nunez/Dozier injury triad situation.
  6. Exactly right, Chief. A team that's saying "why not?" and going for it can't worry about roster issues with Romero down the road. What we know for sure is that: Plouffe is gone for 15 days (I would bet that it will be more than that), and that Fuld is best-utilized as a 4th OFer, and that the only position Florimon has ever played is SS, and that Florimon's only viable asset, defense, is a serious question mark based on his play in AAA, and that Nunez is day-to-day, and that Santana is still shaky at SS, and that Dozier is battling a bad back- Escobar is spread too thin covering all of that responsibility in the utility role. He's doing fine at SS for now. I hope the Twins come to the realization that they're going to need another bat.
  7. Sure to stir up controversy, for stating the facts as an act of love, BaggerVance goes 7 shutout innings, with 5 Ks, giving up 5 hits vs. the Marlins today.
  8. Great job, JC. Lots of clarification on just where Kohl is at. Just wondering, have you seen enough of him this year to determine if his velocity has, in fact, ticked up a notch ( very encouraging, if true) and just how much he's putting away that slider for the future?
  9. No one expects perfect, that there are no players with options left and available today except Pedro Florimon isn't expecting perfect, that Pedro Florimon was deemed the starting SS in ST- no matter what- isn't expecting perfect, that someone has yet to be held accountable for Nishi/Hardy/Hoey isn't expecting perfect, that the Nick Blackburn signing fiasco hasn't had someone held accountable isn't expecting perfect, that for many, many years running, Twins draft picks yielded little more than Trevor Plouffe and Glen Perkins wasn't expecting perfect, that Jason Marquis, Vance Worley, Pedro Hernandez, PJ Walters and Cole DeVries were somehow greenlighted and passed off on the public as viable SP options was just plain insulting. and that the Twins had no viable "Target Field Twins- Plan B" when Plan A fizzled so badly in 2011 wasn't expecting perfect, either.
  10. I do find it strange that I can't seem to find any of this "love shown Worley" you speak about in this thread.
  11. Uhhh...what?
  12. Uhhh....what?
  13. The very second that someone in the Twins organization besides Bill Smith is held accountable for all of their vast mis-assessments of talent, personalities and Plan A and B options over the last 7 seasons, I'll be right there with you on Worley.
  14. Playing 2nd and batting 3rd? Gardy does the impossible.
  15. Only if Miguel had shown sufficient "consistency".....
  16. Phil Miller is a busy bee on this Sunday morning....nursing the irony of the crippled Twins lineup on Twitter:
  17. Update and background on the situation from Phil Miller's blog: And this not-too-encouraging bit of news on "Pedro's Progress": http://www.startribune.com/blogs/78693392.html
  18. And even more riding on Dozier's back...
  19. As somewhat expected, Plouffe goes to th 15-day disabled list, opening the way for Pedro Florimon to be activated for today's game against Detroit.
  20. I am well aware of the Twins pitching prowess in Rochester and have been documenting it, here on TD- kudos to the Twins for constructing large pitching depth in AAA, but the point of a AAA team is to have viable options at all positions at the roster-ready- in that regard, this situation is tied directly into the CF fiasco- a genuine out-of-options Cluster. (The Twins kind-of screwed up the pitching part of the roster as well, by claiming and wasting time with non-entity Brooks Raley in the late spring.) The wild card in this current glorious mess injury-triad is Dozier..... what to do if he has a bad-back setback?
  21. I have to think there is going to be a series of debris-clearing moves from the current logjam of mediocrity, aging veteranness and disappointment at the fringes of the roster coming very soon- whether via Trades, DFAs or DLs. Parmelee, Pelfrey, Deduno, Burton, Swarzak, Thielbar, Guerrier, Correia, Ibarra, Aaron Hicks (as a PTBNL or after the DL ends) are 10 guys who could be on the trading/chopping block or DL'd in the near future. At least 3 of these guys would likely pass through waivers, if the Twins really want to hang on to them. Though it was prudent to roster Kepler and Polanco at the time, it really is biting the Twins back hard right now in the short-term. It's simply inexplicable that the Twins AAA farm team is in first place, and yet there isn't one guy on the 40-man available who can both play a position in the field besides catcher and has a fighting chance that he can hit major league pitching.
  22. Darnell and Johnson are on the roster- and Pressly and Tonkin are as well, as much as both Achter and Pino seem deserving, it seems likely a rostered player is going to get the call first. It seems the Twins are saving the Pelfrey spot for just the right moment- until Meyer's stumble on Friday night, I was hoping that he was going to claim that roster spot...it's only natural to wonder if there might be something wrong with Meyer. Achter's rise up through the ranks is true testament to not ignoring the potential impact of the late round picks, especially the pitchers.
  23. Except he's crashing and burning in Rochester, "11 errors in 33 games..."
  24. Despite 11 errors in 33 AAA games, SS Pedro Florimon is reportedly on the way back to the Twins in Detroit, on a stand-by basis, pending the situation with injuries sustained Saturday by Trevor Plouffe and Eduardo Nunez. Per Chris Fee on Twitter: Chris Fee ‏@CJFee 18m Was told Florimon will not be officially activated but there as insurance in case someone goes on the DL.
  25. No, absolutely "maybe".... and Hell, No. You want even more "ugly?"......P-Flo just went for error #11 tonight, in 33 AAA games. Escobar at 3rd if Dozier is ready, Nunez if he isn't. If both Plouffe and Nunez can't go, 15-day one of them, 60-day Pelfrey and bring up Deibinson or Beresford. The pitching staff is a different matter- let's treat that issue separately and keep the 4-man bench (we have a full-time DH now, need the flexibility). It's coming very close to D-Day to parachute some new guys in, simultaneous to discovering more mystery injuries in the pen and with Deduno, a la Pelfrey.
