  1. If this were truly the case, this information would have, in all probability, leaked out already.
  2. Possible, but I think it would have leaked out already if that were the case, and it was just announced that Lavullo was invited to a second interview.
  3. And Maddon's agent basically said that Joe would have welcomed a call... and why not? It never hurts to break bread with a fellow professional, Maddon can only increase his leverage by interviewing with Ryan, while Ryan can only enhance the Twins image and increase the awareness and perception that the Twins are in it to win it, there are no losers in this exchange...
  4. Of course. All a part of changing the perception of the direction this club is heading.
  5. I cut Pohlad and TR a lot of slack and gave them a lot of credit for: 1) finally acknowledging and accepting the reality that it was time to move on from Gardy, et al, 2) taking a large amount of time to do a thorough manager search with the idea that we all now were in agreement that it was time to re-invigorate the franchise with a fresh approach from the new on-field guy. But this behavior since Friday, re Maddon, has quickly turned any freshly sweet goodwill into sour antipathy.
  6. I don't agree with Mackey very often, but he hit this one out of the park: Mackey: Are Pohlad and Ryan even remotely curious about Joe Maddon? Devastating.
  7. Even more sad that Terry Ryan and Jim Pohlad had the perfect opportunity to put that perception to rest once and for all and send a positive message- they are the only team currently bidding for a manager's services. They have a free shot to put out a very competitive offer- no down side if the Cubs or someone else matches or beats it.
  8. Well said, Bark. This new-look, wait-in-the-bushes, promise-to-hold-the-line on payroll approach is going to be a veritable boon to season ticket sales!!! Last one to leave the game in TF in 2015, remember to flip off the light, and Twins management if you think of it.
  9. It's gonna be hard to beat "THIS" for Thread Winner.
  10. Not sure how to statistically quantify what's happened to Buck this year. But what we do know he is, he's close to the fastest baseball player on the planet, and the combination of his speed, strength and reckless abandon can be quantified in terms of force, velocity and utter disregard for his own safety meeting animate and inanimate resistance.
  11. At this point, I think it's more than fair to say: "The Trend is not his friend."
  12. It just gets more depressing:
  13. Discretion has often proven to be the better part of valor in the past. Though there is obviously a dose of bad luck, Buxton's range of injuries- and HOW some of them happened this season- should be a cause for concern going forward. It would be a shame if he ends up with half of a HOF career, like Tony Oliva. As of now, based on this season, anyway, he is on the career path of Troy Tulowitzki, both are/will be likely to be perceived as the best in baseball at their position- as well as perennial MVP candidates. But both, might be stigmatized by the perception that they can't stay healthy enough to stay on the field for a full season- and end up never realizing true greatness. Clearly, more than enough of the injuries Buck has sustained this year are due to his admirable, but ultimately reckless, style of play. I think the evidence is apparent that there is going to be a need for an "attitude adjustment" (at the tender age of 20 and possessed with all of his talents, he's in the prime of his "immortal" stage) or he risks jeopardizing his incredible potential.
  14. Well said. A very real personal tragedy for the families of the departed, and a devastating gut punch to all baseball fans- the kid was destined for greatness.
  15. I believe what Maddon was doing is called pro forma. I think it's time for another Twins Daily poll to gauge the odds on him coming to the Twins....
  16. The roster is updated today. Pelfrey is listed at the bottom, still on the 60-day DL.
  17. I checked the Twins website on 10/23/, Johnson and Burton were still both on the 40-man. I checked it again today, Johnson is gone, but Burton is still there. http://mlb.mlb.com/team/roster_40man.jsp?c_id=min Is this related to, and part of the process for the MLB in determining who is formally declared a Free Agent in November? (Under such a process, this would theoretically give the Twins a chance with a window of time to negotiate with Burton first, before he goes on the open market). I'm assuming that the Burton and the club will indeed part ways, but old habits of bringing back familiar faces die hard...
  18. Or something like what La Russa has in Arizona might work- I'd prefer he focus strictly on the baseball operation.
  19. You'll never get anywhere if you don't ask for the business. I'm not sure if the Twins have gotten over their inferiority complex yet.
  20. It will be nice to see him build on this and parlay it to even more frequent days like today where he dominates the stat line, as the AFL winds down. Is there any info on Buck looking at getting time in winter ball somewhere? Good to say Jason Adam up his game a little, as well.
  21. Thanks for the update. Gamecast said he hit a screamer to 3rd for an out leading off the game, too. Please share more, if you have the chance. Jason Adam is first up on the reliever schedule.
  22. Not everyone did, but I think it tells you his string of baseball excellence has helped his confusing name penetrate the collective bad-speller psyche.
  23. No one has posted anything unrealistic or non-evidentiary in this thread. Ryan has been around long enough for any Twins fans to understand and grasp Shakespeare's phrase- "What's past is prologue..." There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that Ryan would actively and seriously consider such a hire- as much as many of us would see it as a master stroke.
  24. All of this is on point, but Doogie will still tweet out his "scoop" a few weeks from now, in "disclosing" that an Twins insider told him it was really close and came down to between the actual signing team and the Twins.
