  1. Nailed it. The Twins aren't processing and accepting the right data to trace the path of least resistance towards incremental improvement. Wrong question, for sure. They presumably think that Hunter will sell more tickets. That is the wrong solution to the wrong question.
  2. Considering the source of the agitation, it's certainly reasonable to expect such reactions. Supplying more rumors and tweets around guys like Abreu, Hughes, Suzuki, Garza, Santana, Tomas, Anderson, Masterson..., will significantly alter the firestorm/bandwagon-jumping quotient.
  3. He has a split disadvantage, as well. Are they really that dismissive of what Vargas can bring in 2015?
  4. It's not so much that it's the WRONG path they're going down, which it is (Willingham is going to be remembered as a gazelle in LF if they throw Pena out there), it's the fact that it looks like the SAME path that has helped contribute to all of these 90 loss season. This would imply that they aren't relying very much on the data, or are willfully ignoring said data, that is telling them where they need to make improvements.
  5. Wayne Krivsky FIFY.
  6. As I reported above, and in Parker's original thread, Parmelee tells the reporter that he would be playing with his team until December 2nd. He didn't play much of this last week, so obviously, the situation changed. The exact reason why, still to be determined.
  7. Kris Johnson was sold to Hiroshima.
  8. Just a couple days after telling an ebullient interviewer that he would be playing in Venezuela until December 2nd, Chris Parmelee is heading home:
  9. Interesting. Based on what I've read and Allen's track record with Price, et al, Meyer might be the biggest beneficiary of this move in the long run.
  10. I dunno, Willis was Berardino's revealed guy.... it was LaVelle who was the one who broke the news that Allen was suddenly in the running. Sounds like it possibly could be that Allen's agent was a little chatty? *** ***(or someone close to Glynn?? pure speculation only if Glynn had any role in this, if at all)
  11. Absolutely right. I think Jeremy was talking more about a fall-back position, but that sure seems like setting this whole thing up for failure before it even begins, and seems like a waste of time when there should be a few available arms to try out for the minimum if they think Duensing is now too cost-prohibitive. Wouldn't they prefer to take the option of having Yang start out as a starter in AAA if he proves he isn't ready to start for the Twins?
  12. This was his foundational philosophy at AAA. Phil Hughes and Trevor May will likely be on board with this (Good thing Kevin Correia isn't around any more):
  13. Wrong, Allen was the bullpen coach for the Yankees in 2005.
  14. They can still mess this up with the bench coach and first base coach, but I bet they go outside for at least one more.
  15. Seth, they kept this one very close to the vest- I'm wondering if Allen came on at the last minute or if he was a front-runner all along- as I said, did Glynn have any input here, or someone else? Do you know who's going to write-up the story for Twins Daily? This guy looks like he's going to be a very good interview and a refreshing breath of fresh air!
  16. But his staff has also led the International League in K% the last three years, so there's that. This is the guy I wanted. I'm wondering if Gene Glynn had some input, either in the initial suggestion, or in the pursuit, or both. Now that I got what I voted for, I'm probably just as likely to be proven that we got the wrong guy, but I've always supported hiring Rays personnel, he has a great track record of success, and now we have two on the bench in prominent roles. Kudos to Terry Ryan for getting this done.
  17. What in the world are you babbling about here? You're "feel" for this conversation is what's off-the-wall here, and has nothing to do with the fact that Hahn is part of the new breed of very sharp minds at the GM role, has been acknowledged as such with multiple awards and had multiple chances for GM jobs that he has turned down. No one is saying anything like what you are intimating. We've been dealing with facts here on this thread (that you apparently somehow associate with WWE and cooking?). Let's see.... one team is focused on their defined needs, and is quickly executing its plan by acquiring two of the best in the game at their respective positions, the other team was lapped in 2014 by the first team, and is still struggling to hire its full field staff, nearly two months after removing the previous staff, apparently under some duress from ownership, while making headlines by continuing their standard MO, including actively recruiting through their new manager in bringing back an aging alumni who will turn 40 in 2015. No one is cliff-jumping here, just pointing out where we are on November 22, 2014. Hopefully things change quickly by the end of Winter Meetings, that's less than three short weeks, and they will have adequately addressed the glaring needs. Hopefully they won't promise spots to aging vets whose last good year in the majors was 2006, at the expense of picking up better players that come available between now and the end of Sprint Training. May I suggest you add to the conversation instead of throwing cheap shots around?
  18. Ouch. Tommy Boy could be just another guy heading to Pittsburgh.
  19. Or they could have claimed Emilio Bonifacio around the same time frame, and later traded him for a 20-year-old, 2nd round pick, switch-hitting, offensive-minded Catcher by the name of Victor Carafini, who is now ranked #10 in the #1-ranked Cubs farm system.
  20. "Going out where, yet again?" "Often enough?" This is exactly what they've done with Willingham, Kubel, Bartlett. Last I looked, Wily Mo is said by some to be close to 270 pounds and his last productive year in the majors was NINE seasons ago, in 2006. If you're telling me that they envision Mauer moving to the OF, with Pena only playing 1st base, and primarily against LHP, then they might be able to make a case for Pena, but hopefully it's on a make-good deal... nine years ago...
  21. By which one would have to praise the bold and aggresive move on Rick Hahn's part, and possibly the Sox medical staff in their evaluation. I can't emphasize enough that the Twins are going up more and more against guys with Harvard and Kellogg School of Management pedigrees (such as Hahn). The days of the scouts and washed-up players working their way up through the ranks and successfully matching wits with these business-model-brainiacs are numbered.
  22. Sorry Seth, the name was too good to pass up to make an ironic point in juxtaposition. (I know Terry will get somebody we can rally around, but you gotta admit, Hahn has clearly set his priorities for the offseason and has made two major impact moves well ahead of the pack in the AL Central.)
  23. Most of the Koreans I attended school with in high school and college barely spoke a word in class. Did your job involve some translational mind-reading too?
  24. That'a some really good stuff, courtesy of old friend Andrew Albers, as well as from Amzin' Mike Berardino:
