  1. Actually, it would be 7 wins, and Vegas and most pundits see the Twins going backwards in wins this year, not forward. Merely "above .500" would be fringe contention, kind of like the role the White Sox hope to attain this season (with two and a half Ace level pitchers and one potential Ace about to get called up)- and if the Twins finish around 70 wins this year, you would be asking for an 11 game improvement in 2016, just to reach .500. IMO- you're expecting too many holes to be successfully plugged and too many prospects that would have to hit the ground running in 2016 to be optimistic enough to think the Twins can compete next year.
  2. Yeah, at the rate the Twins are moving up the prospects (meanwhile clogging the system with both expensive and inexpensive mediocrities in order to put a major league product on the field and/or "evaluate" their prospective continued usefulness...), and including the prime prospects' major league adjustment phase, I gotta think that 2018 is more realistic- - and that's merely to be considered a contender, not "really good".
  3. You forgot the /sarc tag.... What I fear most is a likely outcome in a Liriano/Worley scenario for Meyer some day, only, obviously writ much larger.
  4. This is an indictment on the Twins as much as Meyer. Whether they've been babying him or have failed to come up with a mechanics-self-adjustment regimen, or some combination of the two, he was on a roll for much of last season in AAA. The first hints emerged in Spring Training that the Twins are becoming frustrated with Meyer and some character failure on his part in his lack of killer instinct- which is wholly ironic, because they've had two years to work with him now, and appear for all intents and purposes, to have treated him like Little Lord Fauntleroy instead of throwing him into the fire when he was so dominant in 2014.
  5. All this shows is that the Twins are also vastly falling short relative to the league with their top prospects on the developmental curve.
  6. The Rays and the Marlins have primarily been bringing up their hard-throwers on a fast-track basis. If they have to deal them away before the 6th year of control due to financial reasons, so be it. They are banking on capturing the peak physical years of their prospects in the major leagues, and maximizing their value in trade. In the meantime, they have their best possible pitchers in the rotations- both talent- and upside-wise.
  7. It shouldn't be an issue, but it likely is in the Twins way of thinking.... which shows how backward the Twins way of thinking is regarding position players vs. hard-throwing pitchers and peak physical years...
  8. ESPN's Dave Schoenfeld did a comparative analysis of all of the teams who started out either 3-0 or 0-3 and what, if any significance that might have on their 2015 season results, his general conclusion- "Don't sweat it yet, if you're team is off to a slow start- EXCEPT- the Twins did not fare so well in his summation- and this is probably just the start of the in-season drubbing that the Twins are going to be taking from the national scribes as they one-up each other in bringing up one horrific example of utter futility after another:
  9. Any significance for Duffey being the apparent #1 guy, for now? (For example, was Duffey moved up in anticipation of him moving up with a corresponding AAA promotion to replace Nolasco?)
  10. You've covered all of the elements that make this move a no-brainer. Neal Allen has an established track record of working with up-and-coming, fast-track pitchers. And perfecting the change-up is one of the two keys to Meyer's long-term success in the majors. It's obviously going to be another throw-away season in terms of wins and losses, why waste Allen's valuable coaching time working with at least half a dozen guys who likely won't be around to see 2016 with the Twins?
  11. There's a 3rd way, a method that worked well for Johan Santana as well as some current Cardinal SPs. Get him up here in low leverage relief situations, particulaly in apparently another year where the W-L record will be unimportant.
  12. Of course I didn't watch the game. That's why I asked.
  13. I'd accept up to 4.5 BB/9 if he can keep his K/9 well north of 9. He's really not very far off being an AL average SP, today. Meyer's AAA stats for 2014 - K/9- 10.57 K%- 27.1% BB/9- 4.42 WHIP 1.38 BA .235 ERA/FIP 3.52/3.66 AL SP League Average 2014- K/9- 7.35 K%- 19.3% BB/9- 2.79 WHIP 1.29 BA .254 ERA/FIP 3.92/3.85 Steamer 2015 projection for Meyer- shows these areas of improvement, plus the projected ERA/FIP (all of which obviously would be aided with a slight uptick above their K/9 projection of 8.88- closer to 10)- BB/9- 3,89 WHIP 1.34 BA .238 ERA 4.01/FIP 3.79
  14. Excellent post, precise analysis on how the first half season was proceeding for Meyer. The Twins excuse at the time was that they were looking for "more consistency", but of course they had no intention of ever calling him up, the plan all along was actually just to get him to the end of August in AAA healthy and then shut him down. I'd only add a few words to your last line: "He is more than old enough. He has a lot of innings in AA and AAA, with nothing left to prove- competition-wise. It is past time to get him to the Twins.
  15. And a .400 OBP, I'll take it every time.
  16. How so? The box score says only 4 hits allowed, 3 singles and 1 double. 5 GB outs, 1 FB out. 1 ER allowed through 5 IP. Two runs scored in the 6th inning after he walked the first two batters and was pulled from the game, both of whom scored with Darnell pitching. It appears to be all about the 6 walks allowed, not hard hit balls.
  17. I guess that means that he'll be lights out from this point on, then?
  18. Trying to be positive here-- The following is is still the club record standard for futility- Washington Sentaors 1904 38-113 .252 winning percentage 55.5 games out of 1st Place. I predict at least 12 more wins for the 2015 club, but I admit I don't have any stats to back up my prediction.
  19. His only mistake was in the order listed, the broadcasters were already bad before this debacle began.
  20. Because you just can't have enough Jasons, let the "Wheeler Dealer" era begin!
  21. Yeah, it's not time to push the panic button yet. Unfortunately, there are other history signals that don't portend well for this season:
  22. And isn't that really the crux of the problem for any team that tries to do things halfway? The math just doesn't work when you try to be all-in "competitive" (but really only half-way with iffy veteran FAs) and stealth half- "rebuilding" (Terry, it was obvious you were half-re-building when you traded away the only viable centerfielders for pitching- pitching that was three years out from contributing at the major league level)
  23. We actually had a TD conversation about acquiring Fowler in the offseason, particularly in the wake of his strong performance against the Twins, both in the field and at the plate- in 4 games against the Twins, his slash line is .429/.529/.786/(1.315). Yeah, notwithstanding this last season in Houston, Fowler has actually graded out OK in terms of dWAR previous to 2014, but yes, he isn't a great CFer. But, comparing him to the current alternatives in CF, not in RF, he's better, or at worst, about the same, as the 4 alternatives, and at the plate, he's obviously much, much better than all of them. I would have been calling on Colorado after the 2013 Twins season and after removing the only 2 guys that could play CF via trade in the preceding offseason and the first Hicks debacle, and gotten in Fowler a solidifying presence in CF offering a 2-3 year safety placeholder while things were sorted out around the rest of the diamond.
  24. Could we hire the Tigers trainer as a paid consultant on the side for cold weather situations? He somehow got Price and Sanchez (and the relievers, even Joe Nathan) plenty loose.
