  1. Thanks for the report T-south. Yep, when the sun is shining and the wind isn't blowing, the only place for refuge from baking yourself to the point of a heat stroke is in those few back rows of seats with shade. I saw Kepler when he was swinging really well in early May. Looks like he's got his stroke back- probably ready to move up to AAA soon. Looks like Polanco got 3 double plays working behind the pitchers. Did you have the chance to see Brandon Peterson pitch in his AA debut? Any opinion on his stuff and velocity?
  2. Got that right. I know and especially appreciate that he's been Rosario's biggest advocate from early on in Spring Training, and stuck with him, even pushing for his promotion when Rosario's numbers were underwhelming in Rochester. His tough love in ST with Hicks at least served to help Hicks look a lot more like a major league ballplayer than in season's past. I liked him sticking with Nunez, even when many were wondering if it was already past time to send him packing. I like how he's handled and stuck with the pitching staff, expecting more from both the starters and relievers- sticking with the guys that started out so shaky, like Boyer and Gibson. And I especially like that he's now publicly dangling the promotion carrot out to Miguel Sano.
  3. Yeah, hence the Happy Face- just trying to point out the Twins current desperate state with a touch of irony- The Orioles have had a recent history replete with employment of Twins castoffs.
  4. And it sounds like we can throw Vanimal in there, as well. Let's see if we can get our own former Haight-Ashbury guy (a wee bit older, I think) on this train, as well...
  5. Not disputing that Schwarber has had the superior season. He definitely has, great scouting by the Cubs for defying convention in last year's draft. My point was more along the lines that since Epstein is giving his guy a shot at a taste of the show, and with Sano matching or surpassing him since he's gotten himself going, that it might be worth a more considered look at Sano sooner rather than later, as well. And since then, it seems like the Twins are ready to pull the trigger fairly soon. In the long run, though, I'm still pretty confident that Sano is likely going to prove that he's the superior prospect
  6. Nothing against Cole Johnson, but wasn't the Oliveros suspension a great time to give the younger guy, who also happens to b the top performer and better prospect, Zach Jones, a shot at AAA?
  7. I'm pretty well convinced that you, me and Molitor are on the same page with this...
  8. Worded a little wrong, perhaps. But's he's in the HOF, and he's a manager, so there's that. And despite previous statements from the braintrust, the HOF manager, has willingly staked his reputation to a What If? query... and has now willingly opened a window into the brainturst's current musings on a possible 2015 MLB role for Sano.
  9. BRef begs to differ. They mark him down for one game played at 1B for Beloit. 7 chances, 7 put outs, 0 errors. Speaking as an ex-first baseman, I gotta tell you, the Learning Curve ain't at all steep- like it is at other positions. There's a reason it's the position players with no experience except at their own original position go to when they are no longer physically capable to play at the more challenging position. Sano came up as a SS, although I highly doubt he'll get any time over there at 1B, I think he could master it to an acceptable level pretty quickly. And I'd consider taking even money that he would be better than Arcia or Delmon on his first trip out there, and quickly be adequate to acceptably decent in less than a month.
  10. Kind of optimistic, aren't you? He's never advanced 2 levels. Why would the Twins start now? Plus, below this class at AA, there's not much deserving of a call-up.
  11. Yes he is. Of course, the Twins might want to call the Orioles and see if they can have Parmelee back.,,, He was called up tonight, played both RF and 1B.... and went 4-6 in his debut, with 2 HRs
  12. At this point, Dozier and little-used part-time player Nunez (25 June PAs) are the only players over 92 OPS+ in June (even Rosario is only around 80 OPS+). Even with the recent flurry of extra base hits, the Twins of course, collectively have the worst OPS+ in the AL for June, @ 63! While hopefully all of those recent gap XBH hits hint that a turn is in the offing, I still don't see any alternative for really kick-starting this offense into a higher gear on the 40-man roster than Sano.
  13. Berardino adds more fuel to the Sano fire, bewailing the Twins' lineup 5-hole woes, and confirming signals that a change appears to be in the works ("Twins Need Another Bopper Badly"): "One of the reasons the Twins could wind up promoting Miguel Sano sooner than expected is the trouble they’re having in the middle of the order... No wonder Twins’ No. 5 hitters entered the day ranked in the MLB bottom six in isolated power (25th), slugging (26th), combined on-base/slugging (28th), weighted runs created (29th), home runs (tied for last) and hard-contact rate (30th). And no wonder Molitor is growing more intrigued by the day when it comes to the idea of calling up Sano from Double-A Chattanooga." I knew it was bad, and many on this forum have been pointing out the absurdity of some of the players assigned to the #5 spot in the order, but it's difficult to believe that this team has a winning record with that type of production from the very heart of the order. http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2015/06/16/postgame-twinsights-twins-need-another-bopper-badly/
  14. Why do you think it's only about you? Other folks are expressing some pretty extreme positions about completely crippling some current delicate defensive balancing act, the timing for a bit of sarcasm seemed well-placed. Especially on a team where Arcia may still get some OF time before all is said and done, and of course the soon-to-be 40 year old RF (of whom the UZR and DRS Gods loathe already).
  15. It's all good. I just threw that in there to try to lighten the mood. Your comp was perfectly legit. And the important thing is, the Twins appear to be willing to make every effort at creatively finding a solution here, without messing too much with the long-term development of a top prospect.
  16. This is exactly right. But the Twins have to decide if they are willing to give him the chance to take it.... or find one of several imperfect and probably unsatisfactory solutions at keeping him in the field, at least on a part time basis. I prefer the full-time DH route for now, with an occasional assignment at 3rd.
  17. Umm, that's right, it's sarcasm. Was I supposed to tag something so obvious? It's the other side of this discussion that is going off the deep end here. Again, Twins management appears to at least being willing to publicly consider this as a legitimate option.
  18. There you went and did it... (breaking the unwritten TD rule against comping HOF players with Twins prospects)...
  19. When did I say something relating to end times? I'm not necessarily for or against this. But the Twins have now publicly indicated that putting Sano out in RF, perhaps either through the end of the season,and/or as long as Plouffe is here, is now a possibility. If Sano can be an answer with the bat, I'll go along with their assessment of the situation. Sano won't be too derailed in the field if he misses 3 months at 3rd (and do remedial reps at the position in winter ball). Let's see if he gets some reps in the OF in the next couple weeks in Chattanooga, as further indication of their intent.
  20. If Sano in RF is just part-time and just for the next 1-3 months (depending on trading Plouffe or moving him to another position), AND he has Buxton giving him a lot of cover by flanking him in CF, is it really the End of The World? He can still go to Winter League, get his reps in at 3rd, and come back in 2016 and claim the position.
  21. So I guess Molitor's losing his "damned mind" for his public musing on just this distinct possibility of just such a move to RF for Sano, is the HOF manager "ridiculous", too? The Twins probably prefer to put someone else there, but today's article indicates they haven't ruled it out by any means.
  22. +1 Yep, Sano is the last big move from the existing personnel. Although it does seem like Molitor is having an open tryout at SS this week between Escobar and Nunez. Perhaps Polanco hasn't completely ruined his chances from his one appearance to get in on that tryout if he finishes the end of the month off in a big way in AA?
  23. After seeing him play around 3rd and running the bases, there is a huge misperception that the Twins would be sending out some sort of combination of Willingham and Vargas out to RF, should the Twins choose to try out this option. There's bound to be some adjustment struggles, but with his enormous athletic ability, there's an excellent chance that he could hack it given some time, just as Santana did in CF.
  24. Based on your comment, I'm assuming then that you feel that the HOF manager is 99.9% insane? And has absolutely no appreciation for or understanding of the challenges in RF? Really?
