  1. Things change, to be sure. But I'm not seeing how Rogers moves into the top 10 on the depth chart of SPs any time soon, whereas the need for a reliable LHRP right now is paramount.
  2. Uhh, More (Better) bat options? Not having viable PHs for Robinson, Suzuki, Schafer, Hicks, Herrmann. Bernier, et al, have already resulted in repeated embarrassment in late inning situations.
  3. This is true only if someone else offers something comparable to Funkhauser (pretty unlikely) .... AND.. that the Nats don't need the Desmond payroll savings to be redeployed in a separate acquisition (they're maxed out on their payroll at the moment).
  4. One by one, the Twins are (somewhat excruciatingly) showing that they are ready to move the roster-turnover process inexorably forward. I'll take anything in this direction we can get.
  5. Yep, we had a temporary hole in the roster, as we do now.
  6. About time. Who's next? Sano, Kepler, Polanco, Rogers?
  7. Both would be temporary moves to give a prospect a taste, and temporarily fill a hole in the roster. But moot point it is, as Meyer finally arrives in the majors!
  8. How soon we forget. Although it surprised a lot of people at the time.... One year ago tomorrow, Jorge Polanco was called up for 4 games, the first 3 of which, he appeared as a pinch hitter.
  9. 1) Johan was a Rule 5 guy for a reason- who toiled for 5 seasons with pretty miserable results in the Astros system, followed by 4 years in the Twins pen with various up-and-down results. 2) Samardzija was a college pitcher like Meyer, taken in the 5th round, ranked as high as 79 by BA. 3) The Cards have done the same developmental approach, with practically their entire staff, HS, International and College pitchers, alike. 4) What in the world are you talking about, "extremes"? In contrast to Santana and the others, Meyer is an entirely valid comp as a prospect, 1st round draft pick and rated as high as #14 by BP, and has demonstrated mastery at each level. 5) Meyer was "ready" in ST 2014 at age 24 to get his first exposure in the majors in the pen (according to Gardy) and demonstrated dominance of AAA hitters for most of last year as a starter- with the Twins choosing to religiously follow their own "plan" for Meyer instead of opting for MLB experience to hone his filthy stuff and refine his 3rd pitch in a lost season for the Twins with nothing more to lose. 6) The Twins have been demonstrably unsuccessful to this point in their "plan" for Meyer. It seems clear that they could have gone this RP route they now have chosen, a full season and a half ago.
  10. Johan Santana Jeff Samardzija Almost every Cardinal starter All of the above started out great in the pen. The Twins have too much invested in Meyer not to give him every consideration in a SP role. Probably more than just one shot.
  11. He already completed his suspension. Has been ineffective in 3 appearances since then.
  12. If that's the case, it looks like Oliveros and Thielbar failed to make the grade.
  13. Acia is sitting on the bench tonight.
  14. +100 Yep. Should have made this move in spring, 2014. How far ahead of the curve, in terms of clarity, would the Twins be now in beginning to realize full value on their best prospect arm if they had gone with the St Louis method last year instead of the pitch count/innings limitation plan last year?
  15. A timeline that calls for them NOT calling up a fire-balling Top 25 college pitcher in his 3rd professional year (2014), when he was dominating at his level for much of the season? And a timeline that involves a major step backward in 2015, to the point that some are saying his career as a starter is on the brink? This year's results makes it seem clear that he isn't getting the necessary coaching/strength training/counsel for his unique 6'9" frame and psychological make-up at AAA and a change in scenery to the major league roster, sooner rather than later, might be the best thing for him.
  16. Not to speak for Mike, but I'm guessing he was referring to guys awaiting their first call-ups. Regarding Thompson, replacing him with T-Bar makes the most sense. I still think they would first look outside the organization, quite a few LHP on the wire at the moment, plus they might pull off a minor trade for someone else's expendable arm.
  17. LHP Jose De Paula was DFAd today by the Yankees.
  18. T-Bar is definitely one "veteran" who must be on the short list. Phil Coke is another.
  19. Rogers is scheduled to start tonight, so I guess we'll soon know if he's an option, but based on Ryan's history, that's not going to happen.
  20. Uhh, yeah, he has. The only impediment to Meyer moving up is Meyer and his variable release point.. He's suddenly become more hittable this year due to his lack of control.
  21. Taylor Rogers is worth consideration. Vs.LHB K/BB 33/1 K/9 10.01 BA .165 WHIP 0.57
  22. You definitely got that right.
  23. Going into 2015, 3 of the previous 4 years as a starter he was good to very good (using your own definition). That seems to refute your "coin flip" conclusion of the Shark.
