  1. Yeah, let's just write him off now forever. You are guilty of severe over-analysis of a DEBUT performance. Very few achieve dominating success in their first outing. It might be more helpful to examine his career body of work and extrapolate from a myriad of data. (SHEESH)
  2. I hope you're happy, RiverJonahHill. Somehwhere out there, Jack Goin is feeling schadenfreude right about now.
  3. You missed Yunior Severino, who was 1-4 with a Run, RBI and E in make-up DH game. Still only 18 YO- 2.3 years younger than average for the Appy. Has a .281 BA .758 OPS. He's a switch-hitter- but important to note he's hitting .300 BA/.800 OPS as a RH. Nice aggressive move by FO to move him right to E-Town over splitting time in GCL. One to watch in Winter Ball... he could be a fast mover in 2019.
  4. "What was Pineda's velocity again, LaVelle?" "Topped out at 95 MPH you say?!" "Thank you very much." Pineda averaged ~94 from 2014-17. This is obviously very encouraging. Is there a working plan in place to get him some September innings if he continues hitting all the green lights?
  5. Seems like Dougie Fresh should have told his young charge just that.
  6. Anthony Slama, Andrew Albers and Samuel Deduno say "thanks".
  7. Gordon has the pedigree and the bonus money. Have you seen Arraez? He's only a little more inspiring athletically than Willians Astudillo and even more diminutive, he has a bum knee and is not a MLB SS, maybe not even a 2B or 3B. Don't get me wrong, I hope he's the 2nd coming of Altuve, because this kid can definitely hit. I just don't see him passing Gordon on the prospect board- Gordon will get the first shot to stick. Gordon's problem appears to be long-term stamina, as his 1st half stats are Top 100 worthy- perhaps there's a diet deficiency or metabolic malady?
  8. This is pretty much where I'm at with FO. The off-season was well-executed- with reasonable expectations that the end of 2017 was a jump off point for the solid young core to bust out in a big way in 2018. I am disappointed in bringing in Belisle to bolster the pen, and the last two moves of Dozier and Rodney. International FA money- comp pick slots over slop and suspect prospects- I guess the whole league has wised up. Just a couple more roster spots to open up in August- it would be nice if there was a bidding war for Mauer or Santana.
  9. So then the savings from this year's salary dump will go to pine trees back in CF?
  10. Yep. I thought Rodney would merit a more near-major league ready arm in return.
  11. I was surprised there wasn't a better bidder for Rodney before the deadline. Did Oakland pick up the remaining salary? The Twins need to recoup as much of this years' payroll excess as possible to sign "a big quantity of players next year..." (Although I prefer quality over quantity)
  12. I'd give both of them another fair shot, but it sounds like Duffey has burned all remaining bridges.
  13. Sources say: the leading Dark Horse candidate is Belisle...
  14. TBD. Field was a 5th round pick. LaMarre a 2nd round pick- presumably more demonstrable athleticism? Field's AAA hitting is very slightly better than LaMarre's. LaMarre has much more major league experience. Field does have going for him his 3 years younger advantage- and an extra option. But neither pick-up moves the needle for me with some stand-out tool worth taking a gamble on. The larger point is just: why not promote from within? There's no playoff chase hole in the lineup to fill here. I'd prefer to use the waiver wire when an immediate need must be filled, or, if the waiver pick-up has flippability potential down the road. Field will likely end up on the same course as LaMarre- serving the club no added benefit.
  15. Sounds like more questions than answers.... Why not just keep Ryan LaMarre around? (He's up with the White Sox now.) When everyone's healthy there's already an OF logjam in the organization, and seems like there's more than enough 4th/5th OF types in that group.
  16. Johnny (Out)Field. His name may say baseball, but his stats say another suspect ex-Tampa Ray org player on the Twins roster (now at 5). Why?
  17. Speaking of "catching", please holler back afterwards, especially if Jeffers is behind the plate. Kudos to the Twins scout who pushed for Jeffers. "He" correctly identified an advanced hitting tool in the youngster. Jeffers in his first 50+ PAs in A ball is now sporting a .356 BA/1.164 OPS/.356 ISO/1.17 BB/K. (His A-level numbers so far in this [admittedly] small data size vastly outstrip the glammer twin's- Lewis and Kiriloff- production #s from earlier this year.) Hope they move him to Ft Myers and really focus on a crash-course, fast-track, advanced MLB Catchers program.
  18. Good gracious... I hope the actual name they plug in there @ 2B in 2019 isn't LoFor!
  19. We've just witnessed a pretty significant purge of veteran, and more importantly, fan-favorite Twins. I don't think that Mauer is immune to which direction Falvine apparently intend to go. I think they offer a year-to-year, and then, only at a huge cut and out of "courtesy" to Joe. Will Joe pick up that vibe and accept a drastically reduced contract (and role) or retire?
  20. Good points all. And I too laud the FO for not succumbing to Dozier's superficially-dazzling but wildly erratic numbers- the previous regime would have already overpaid and Franchised Brianout to 2022. Dozier's actually been sounding off since last July. He's still a leader, though. And the FO playing QO chess with him and either getting a comp pick or that leadership quotient in 2019 still appear to both be better values than making this (strange) trade- which seemingly accomplishes less than nothing.
  21. Yeah. Is this personal agent second-guessing, back-biting, feeling-sorry-for-themselves going on now? Because it's been pretty open that Dozier was already openly thinking FA at this time a year ago.
