  1. Those top 4 on Kiley and Callis' lists are a tier to themselves, IMO. Plenty of names throughout those list though that have the potential to breakout even more with a strong year. Nice to see lots of P, SS, C. Still have to go BPA, but OF is the only spot to even consider shying from with that top pick.
  2. This is very real and often understated here. Anyone posting on these boards is in an extremely minor percentile of knowledge and rabidness. While we can mostly support shipping off veterans in the name of a rebuild, the vast majority of the fan base (and, for that matter, $ generators) would be incredibly upset. This just isn't a video game where you can do whatever, trade whatever, sign whatever... although I seem to recall using that strategy quite well in the franchise mode of MLB '04 for the PS2.
  3. You have a point, but given the exact profile that you outlined the best outcome is basically Danny Valencia part deux. Nice in a small sample which drags the Twins (and fans) into falsely thinking we have a piece of the solution.
  4. And Casilla. Wait a sec...
  5. A month in September won't affect team control or any of that. If he sticks in MLB next spring, it's irrelevant. Players called up prior to roughly June can be subject to Super 2 if they have no other MLB service time. So, if he starts in AAA, the Twins would have to tack on a month to that in order to avoid Super 2 status. I much prefer this to the call up, as fun as it would be. I would not. The length of time to truly evaluate Romero as a 3B at the MLB level is long beyond the time frame I expect to see Sano with the letters M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A across his chest and we're still in the midst of that process with Plouffe.
  6. I'd have to agree. Not sure why they wouldn't take Morse if all else is about equal.
  7. Excellent move by the O's to also claim Morse. Both are struggling righty power hitters with marginal defense. Morse has the advantage (or disadvantage?) of not being under contract for next year. If the O's do truly intend to acquire someone, they can basically play them off each other and take the lowest bid.
  8. Chance, there is 0% chance of that. But maybe if we throw in Adam Walker and Brian Duensing.......
  9. How'd that taste? Kinda like old chicken?
  10. Adam Walker, right? As you noted earlier, these types of trades just don't really happen unless there's a reason the team wants to move a guy (a la Bauer for Gregorius).
  11. Just throwing something out here... do the Twins gain any leverage when a team makes a claim on Willingham? The other team is acknowledging they want the guy (or at least are willing to take him on) and now face both a deadline and the possibility of absorbing the contract. Meanwhile, the Twins still have the full ability to pull Willingham back with no loss. Is it possible the Twins DO want someone to claim him?
  12. Any one of DeVries, Hermsen, Bernier, Ramirez, and Clete could be removed from the 40-man if they wanted to give Sano some MLB time. The only concern could be Rule 5 time, but they should have enough spots to protect guys between removing those 5, Morneau's free agency, and the possibility of trades both now and then. I'm not saying they absolutely should call him up, but I do believe they should do whatever they think would be best for the development of Miguel Sano and not worry about the roster spot.
  13. Not unless someone else signs him this season. So, no. Doesn't really accomplish anything, but there must have been a reason to do it now. Maybe he requested it?
  14. thank you! Great point. I do find it humorous how often two people can actually want the exact same thing to happen, but manage to paint each other to the complete extremes.
  15. I've advocated moving him to AAA for the playoff race there. Now that we know Sano isn't going to the AFL, I can see an argument for this as well. However, we've basically heard from the Twins and TR that it isn't likely. Timeline: 1 month ML service time in Sept Start 2014 in AAA Late-July call up to ML Buxton just behind him somewhere between late-July to Sept
  16. From today's article on top prospects he'd call up in September (insider required for full article): [h=3]Miguel Sano | 3B | Minnesota Twins[/h] Sano, 20, is one of the best right-handed power hitting prospects in all of baseball. He’s belted 33 home runs between across high-A and Double-A, and he showed at the lower level that he can hit for average, putting up a slash line of .330/.424/.655. Strikeouts have been a problem for him at Double-A, but he's still slugging .574, and his defense at third (particularly his throwing) has really improved, and he’s certainly capable of making the jump to the major leagues next year. Prospect I would call up in September - ESPN
  17. Could Willingham head back to Oakland? Reddick is out.
  18. The Pirates just acquired Byrd and Buck. We can probably count them out on Morneau. The prospect they gave up was #10-20 range in their org, maybe Niko Goodrum-ish. The Pirates got a guy producing better than Morneau AND a solid backup C better than Butera. The Mets are also covering some of the $1.25M due to Buck. Not sure that's positive news for what we could get for Morneau, even paying every last cent he's due.
  19. With September 1 just around the corner, Chris should hopefully stick on the MLB roster for the rest of the year. We can only hope he gets more chances to show what he can do. Congrats to him on being named the International League MVP and ROY! Colabello named IL MVP, Rookie of the Year | International League News 2011 -- Independent League Player of the Year 2012 -- 2nd place, Eastern League MVP 2013 -- Int'l League MVP and ROY
  20. Wow, that's great. Do they all get placed on the same squad or split up? That'd be a fun team to watch.
  21. I agree with your previous post, but not this one. Some major red flags there around his K rates and mph's.
  22. Absolutely. I like this idea better than moving them up to the MLB roster for a "taste". Have them make room for Trevor May as well. Nothing hurt by giving them a few AAA games, they've all held their own at AA.
  23. Absolutely. This coming offseason or the next would seem to be the time to strike a mid-to-longer term deal. Supplement your young talent with veteran/prime talent and take the payroll hit while you prepare for the kids to get paid big. However, it's extremely hard to attract those talents to a losing team without a clear overpay and that makes me a bit pessimistic about this coming offseason. It makes me hope for the int'l FAs a little more who might be more likely.
  24. Not any sarcasm really. Many of us commonly point to an article or quote as clear proof of something when, in reality, it's quite probably not.
