Late season, blow out football and I'm freezing my a** off, I'm out of there. But the Seahawk fans were nuts -- it just wasn't that big a deficit abd it was the PLAYOFFS. Baseball? Hot, sweaty, bored and in the midst of drunken loudmouths would probably do it.
I just hope he gets off to a better start this season, And I agree that Santana's presence may be beneficial, May also be helpful that Hughes did well. I'm a bit of a believer in good pitching breeding good pitching.
But some manager (I think it was Molitor not Gardy) said this doesn't really matter. That after a couple of times through the rotation and given varying schedules, weather problems, etc.. you don't often get 1 v. 1, 2 v. 2, etc. Of course, playoffs are a different matter.
Twins photographer Brace Hemmelgarn posted a blog with photos from the 2014 season: http://bracehemmelgarn.com/2014-baseball-year-in-review/ Hope it makes you start counting the days. Somehow I think that Vargas and Sano will both compete with Dozier for media darling. (And I have to admit that until I posted this, I always had his name in my head as Bruce not Brace).
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=15864 From 2012 but probably hasn't changed much Who are the arbitrators? The MLBPA and the Labor Relations Department of MLB jointly agree upon a slate of 16 or so arbitrators to hear all cases in panels of three (one of the three is designated the "Chair" of the panel). If the two sides are unable to agree on a slate the CBA directs them to request a list of qualified arbitrators from the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and each side alternately strikes names off the list until they are left with enough arbitrators to hear all cases. The arbitrators are lawyers and judges with extensive arbitration experience and arbitration certification from a professional guild like the AAA. Essentially they serve as judges in a quasi-judicial hearing. While they don't necessarily have a connection as a former player or coach, rhey often have some familiarity because they often serve as an arbitrator over a number of years, I had a labor law professor who was a baseball arbitrator, The article explains the whole process. This is one of the places agents really earn their percentage.
i think the Angels are missing (unless I overlooked them) so that would probably push the Twins to 19. Plus rhe median is likely to go up. Still, an encouraging increase,
LaVelle E. Neal III @LaVelleNeal · 25m25 minutes ago Arbitration $$$ exchanged. Brian Duensing wants $3.1 million. Jordan Schafer wants $1.7 million. Twins offer: $2.4M and $1.4M, respectively.
I've been rooting for him to find a good spot. He was so bummed out before Christmas about how he was the one who always did what the Twins wanted yet he was the one DFA'd. Mentioned how he should have worried more about his individual stats. (Later pulled the tweets). There really wasn't a spot for him in the Twins BP --plenty of potential long relievers -- but he seems like a good guy so I hope this works out for him.
I think WS championships are important and in the case of MacPhail, they were achieved when only 2 teams per league made the playoffs. I'll admit that the proliferation of playoff teams now make it more of a crapshoot but you do have to consider pre-1993 and especially pre-1969 championships more valuable.

It is unusual to see a veteran who is willing to do 4 days on a bus (although they look like very nice buses from a photo of Thielbar and Gibson). Somehow I think there;is a little card playing between stops. Perk just seems pretty good natured when not in competitor mode, And very appreciative of what baseball has done for him. Apparently the "Midwestern boys" (Perk, Gibson, Thielbar) get the first week. The warm weather guys (Dozier, Plouffe, Hughes, Schafer) only have to show up that 2d week closer to Twins Fest) (makes logistical sense). Not sure how Duensing snuck into that 2nd week. Anyway, it is nice to see another example of Perkins' veteran leadership.
