  1. Olney is having a good time with this: Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN · 29m29 minutes ago Eliminate shifts? Wow. It might be a worse idea than telling pitchers they're only allowed to throw pitches that are straight. Are there going to be little circles in which fielders must stand, even when they know the batter doesn't hit the ball in that area? Re: 'No shifts.' Does that mean infielders can't play in or back? Outfielders can't play deep/in? Can't play the lines? No-doubles defense? Re: No shifts: Does that mean first baseman must always hold the runner? Must stay on the bag? On the bag? In front of the base? Back? Re: No shifts: Who will enforce it? If fielder must stay in his 'circle,' who will determine if he left a split second early? Reviewable? I can just see the groundskeepers competing on who makes the best little circles.
  2. Milone had a benign tumor taken off his neck -- and had to pay the 4 figure deductible himself because the surgery was considered elective (Berardino Tweet). Story: http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2015/01/24/twinsights-neck-procedure-improves-tommy-milones-2015-outlook/ Even though it wasn't considered necessary, it obviously affected how he was feeling -- even if just an annoyance. Maybe he's back on track.
  3. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino · 10m10 minutes ago New Opening Day projection for #MNTwins payroll: $106.2 million. Have 15 players under contract at $100,975,000
  4. And then there were none: Seth Stohs ‏@SethTweets · 2m2 minutes ago Twins and Duensing agree at $2.7 million. I'm sure it is a relief to both sides. Let's play ball!
  5. There's a live stream here: http://m.twins.mlb.com/min/video/v37152997/live-twinsfest
  6. The TwinsFest schedule is here: http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/min/downloads/y2015/2015_TwinsFest_Program.pdf If you go to the 2nd page, I think most of the broadcasts are from the U.S. Bank Stage. I don't know if it is all broadcast, though..
  7. Minor Leaguers: Absolutey agree changes are needed. TV Blackouts: While I sympathize with your position and believe that MLB will eventually have to make changes, I don't think this is an easy issue or that the commissioner would have an easy time acting unilaterally on this subject. The big paydays that many teams got from the regional sports networks may well have been based in part on the blackout policy. Any changes may interfere with those contracts and make some owners very unhappy,
  8. Nah, he was the one learning Japanese.
  9. Re: TwinsFest Was last year the first time at TF? That would help explain part of the huge drop. Novelty is worn off, It's too bad because I think they have a higher percentage of players there thab ever before,
  10. And then there was one.... Rhett Bollinger ‏@RhettBollinger · 4m4 minutes ago Twins agree to terms with Jordan Schafer to avoid arbitration. It's $1.55 million for one-year. I believe Duensing said they were working on it when Pohlad was kidding him last night.
  11. Wouldn't you think his agent would clue him in? On the other hand, he has 3 more secure years so why would the agent care? It isn't so much the LA love. A lot of players have the SoCal love -- Hughes, Plouffe, Milone, Jake Reed - but they all seem to understand who is paying them.
  12. Tyler Mason ‏@FSNtylermason · 17m17 minutes ago Terry Ryan was also asked about Mike Pelfrey in the bullpen. Ryan: "I'm more interested to see what he can do as a starter." #MNTwins Were those groans I heard?
  13. This is good news. If they don'r do so already, I hope they make the same offer to coaches,
  14. I think he's angling to be traded, Get a clue, Ricky. Pitch well the 1st half and maybe they'll be able to flip you.
  15. ricky nolasco ‏@RNolasco47 · 46s47 seconds ago Minneapolis here i come! Hate to leave beautiful sunny warm LA! #fanfest #freezing #ughhh #smh He should have been here last week. It's balmy by comparison now (at least in Iowa).
  16. Really nice summary, Seth. Thanks. Hoping that the optimism proves realistic this summer.
  17. Mystery solved. Good for him.
  18. Not about a Twin but someone in the highly touted Cubs farm system that we saw in the futures game. The Chicago Cubs have reason to be concerned about one of their Core Four prospects, infielder Javier Baez. After Baez batted only .169 with 95 strikeouts during a 52-game big-league audition last year, many observers figured a return to his native Puerto Rico for winter ball would help Baez make the necessary adjustments at the plate -- in particular, an improved two-strike approach. That hasnât happened. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/just-a-bit-outside/baseball-joe/blog/cubs-have-reason-to-be-concerned-about-baez-012215 He may turn it totally around but it is another reminder that patience is often necessary.

  20. Just going by the stats. he is similar in size to Johan Santana (a little lighter in weight but he's young). Would a healthy, younger Johan succeed in 2015? I'd like to think so. And I hope Berrios can dominate.
  21. Pinto wasn't there last year either from what I could find. So maybe it just isn't his thing or there are visa problems or something.
  22. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino · 44s45 seconds ago Before working 2 perfect innings on 1/13 for Magallanes, Johan Santana warmed up multiple times around a 3-hour rain delay. @LVBP_Oficial
  23. There are only 3 open dates in the regular season in April so a 6 man might be feasible. But except for a series in Seattle, all of the games are in the division. Likely to be some snow, rain and cancellations. Plus, I want Hughes and Santana pitching on familiar days of rest.
  24. Neil Allen hasn't seen much af these guys yet. I'd like him to get a feel for them before decisions are made. I'd also like to get a feel for his (and Molitor's) decision-making. (Yes, I know that it will depend on the F,O,)
