  1. Brian Murphy ‏@murphPPress 2m 9:15 p.m. first pitch
  2. Dave St. Peter ‏@TwinsPrez 4m Hoping for 8:45 RT@marcusculver: @Twins @TwinsPrez any estimate on first pitch? I was a little optimistic with the 8:30
  3. The 8:30 is my guess, not LEN's and I live about 250 mi. from the TC.
  4. I believe you can listen to the Perkins interview here: http://www.1500espn.com/ondemand/judd Monday, June 16, 2014 Hour 3 (bottom of the page) or download from iTunes
  5. LaVelle E. Neal III ‏@LaVelleNeal 8m Looks like the Twins are going to wait this one out. Come down and join us See ya about 8:30 CDT by my look at the radar.
  6. Brian Murphy ‏@murphPPress 2m Sigh. Tarp being rolled out at Target Field; prematurely ending #mntwins batting practice. Could be a long night
  7. Okay, from the horse's mouth (so to speak): Mauer, 30, said it had been nearly two decades since he suffered his only previous diagnosed concussion. "I had one when I was young -- real young," Mauer said. "I was probably 10 or 11 years old. Something at school, maybe just horsing around. Banged my head. I don't really remember how long the symptoms lasted. Just being a kid, I guess." As for any concussions in the interim, which included a standout career as a high school all-America quarterback at Cretin-Derham Hall, Mauer said he has "probably had some along the way" but has never had "symptoms last this long." http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_23974437/minnesota-twins-joe-mauer-speaks-about-concussion-recovery
  8. OTOH, I've now looked at a gazillion stories on the 2013 concussion without finding reference to a specific earlier one.
  9. I haven't found the earlier concussion so I'm not sure if this reference is correct (or if the writer mixed up Mauer & Morneau) but this indicates there was an earlier problem: The Minnesota Twins have placed All-Star catcher Joe Mauer on the seven-day concussion disabled list after he experienced dizziness before Tuesday's game against the Detroit Tigers. Mauer, who has battled concussions since 2010, was immediately scratched from the lineup and sent for tests. He caught Monday's game against the New York Mets. 10. Thanks for the reminder, ChiTown. The thing that strikes me is that w/post-concussion syndrome, it isn't necessarily a case of "healthy" vs "not healthy". It actually seems to be more of a case of post-concussion syndrome possibly making Joe or Justin (or another ballplayer) more like the rest of us mortals. I have to think that part of what makes elite players elite are their reaction times and how they track the ball (From the SI article: When you have post-concussion syndrome, when you're still symptomatic and still haven't completely healed, very commonly reaction times are slow [and] your eyes do not track with the same coordination and speed. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mlb/news/20140602/justin-morneau-colorado-rockies/#ixzz356a2qQTG) It seems to me that we can be talking about very, very small degrees of impairment that might have a significant impact. And that they may, in fact, be hard to measure (or even hard for the player to detect). Yet with an elite player, it may have a big impact.
  11. I agree. From Christina Kahrl on ESPN: Which brings us to why signing with the Twins might especially make sense for Morales, without knowing about how much money was in play. Say the Twins fall entirely out of the race -- if that happens, they’re an obvious seller at the deadline, and Morales could look forward to being dealt to a team in a stronger position in the standings. Rather than pick a contender and hope for the best, signing with the longshot team provides him with a chance there, and potentially a chance to be dealt to an even better opportunity to return to the postseason in two months. Considering Morales hasn’t played any October baseball since 2009, it’s not the worst gambit for a guy who has already lost so much of this season to taking a bad risk on his value on the open market as a free agent. Have to think that Morales and Boras discussed this very possibility (and probably discussed it with the Twins).
  12. Since I've been using this thread as my "weather line", stay safe our South Dakota friends. Looks nasty out there!!!!
  13. There is a significant value in having a pitcher who can anchor a young staff. I have doubts whether Nolasco can do that. Right now, Hughes is demonstrating that he can. I want him around for Gibson and Meyer and May (and whomever else we may promote). By the time his contract is up, maybe one of them can be an anchor.
  14. Hey at least they made history: Jon Shestakofsky ‏@Shesta_Sox 8m The Red Sox outscored the Twins 5-2 in the 3-game sweep.@EliasSports says 5 runs scored are the team's fewest ever in a sweep of 3+ games.
  15. Rhett Bollinger ‏@RhettBollinger 26m David Ortiz on Kyle Gibson: "I tell you what. That kid that pitched for them today, wow. He’s very impressive." Nice outing. If he can keep on an impressive track for about 7 years, we can have the HOF discussion.
  16. Alvord got hit, too from what I understand. Was across railroad tracks. I've got a cousin in Inwood pumping water out of her basement. Only way into Rock Valley is from the south. Governor was there and in Rock Rapids today. We were in such a drought earlier and although I think we're now near "normal" levels of moisture, all of this lowland flooding is really depressing. We need a dry night .... and Nebraska needs a quiet one.
  17. Rock Rapids? Rock Valley? Hawarden? Akron?? I'm close to them all!
  18. Bad seafood. They were in Bahs-ton, you know.
  19. Rhett Bollinger ‏@RhettBollinger 8m Perkins was out with a sore back, according to Gardenhire He can come and fill sandbags. It'll work those kinks right out.
  20. I'd like to feel like the Royals of June 2014. (important to limit that date range with them!)
  21. I don't think it would have mattered if Perkins was available.
  22. It was probably that big salad he was eating the day he gave the interview on Pinto.
  23. OOPS, I guess things have to be Fien.
