  1. MVP: Nishioka CY Young: Nick Blackburn. Matt Capps 2nd. Rookie of the year: Jeff Gray Manager of the year:Bobby V
  2. The problem is his k rate is only 5.9 per nine innings.
  3. It seems like only a matter of time before DeDuno completely blows up, it seems like every other inning he has the bases loaded with 0 or 1 outs and is able to get out of it with little to no damage, that can't possibly continue. He needs to have some extreme control improvement if he ever wants to stay in the league.
  4. LOL Motorcyle Races.... Give me a break, and feel free to stop hijacking this thread for your own personal bashings anytime now, this thread is for the discussion of the 2012 NASCAR season, not for you to try to be "above it".
  5. Few things: The Twins never said they are counting on all 5 of those guys, their are just 5 potential options in the farm system. If 2 of those 5 can become solid pitchers the rotation suddenly doesn't look as nasty as it does now.
  6. Disagree, Hendriks has the upside to be a solid #2 or a good #3. Berrios and Gibson both have the ability to be great #2's or a poor mans #1.
  7. If people wanted to criticize a Mauer at bat last night, they should have criticized the one where he weekly grounded out to 2nd with the bases loaded and 1 out, or any of the other 3 at bats where he didn't get on base.
  8. I mean, he has been pretty healthy this year, bumps and bruises (like this) happen to all players. Hopefully he is back and effective soon.
  9. How do you figure? If Span was put on the DL right away, we have already seen Parmelee for a week.. Furthermore, I'd suggest that Span is much less likely to return at less than 100% and hurt the team by not being on the DL, because he's rushing to return. I said in last week's podcast that this predilection of the Twins doesn't kill them in a noncompetitive year when they have little depth. But that's because nothing kills them in noncompetitive year. That doesn't mean everything except the pitching staff should be ignored. Is it for certain that Parmelee would have been the one who was recalled if Span was put on the DL?
  10. Moving him to the pen is a waste of time, keep him in the rotation until Sept 1st, if he hasn't rebounded by then, then stick him in the pen as a mop up guy once the rosters expand. Let him work in the off-season and come back to try to win a big league spot in 2013, if not just stash him in AAA. I suppose you could just cut him outright, but I don't see the point really. Maybe he can pull it together again, but the odds are against him.
  11. Yeah....that simply isn't true, the majority of NASCAR fans follow other series as well, Indy Car, Sprint Car, Midgets etc. I know the "hip" thing to say is "oh Nascar fans, bunch of stupid white overweight poor rednecks" when in reality if you check out the demographics the majority have pretty stellar incomes, education, etc. Are there poor, fat, idiot drunk rednecks who goto or watch the races? Sure, but you can find them for any sport. Just go down to your local wal mart and count the number of Dallas Cowboys XXXL jerseys you see. F-1 sucks, whichever team has the most money ends up winning a race that is usually not even contested. In NASCAR the races are always close and exciting, it's not so much about the car as it is the skill of the driver and the drivers entire team, you can't say that for your F-1 crap. Also I have been to a NASCAR race and an INDY car race, along with several world of outlaws etc, and I can tell you that the atmosphere at a NASCAR race is 10x greater then any other racing series.
  12. I know that Mauer can hit LHP pretty well, but it should be noted that Luetge has a .169 average against when facing left handed batters.
  13. Already been done. [video=youtube;Q3b5aOelFL4]
  14. If he ends up missing less then 8 or 9 games then keeping him off the DL was probably the right move, hopefully he will be back Monday or Tuesday. Part of me wonders that if the Twins were in the pennant race would Span have been back quicker? Perhaps they are just being a little conservative at this point since the season is lost. Other then Parmelee its not like anyone is exactly knocking on the door to take his roster spot anyways. Let Carson get his cup of coffee until Span is back. The Twins definitely should be criticized for past blunders (such as Plouffe), but the solution isn't to just start throwing people on the DL left and right.
  15. I mean Mauer has the highest OBP in the league, he isn't exactly the guy we should be ripping on for plate discipline, if anything the Twins should be using that at-bat as an example moving forward. (i.e. Walks help win games to!) The funny thing is, if Mauer "mans up" and swings at that 3-1 pitch and hits a grounder back to the pitcher we would be getting posts and articles about how Joe wasn't clutch etc etc.
  16. I stopped reading when you said "man up"
  17. Wow, what a lazy and poor "article" by Joe C. Pretty disappointing as he is one of the actual few newspaper men left that usually puts out quality stuff. Mauer had 1 pitch to hit that entire at bat, he was sitting on a fastball on the 3-1 count and he was thrown a breaking ball, as I mentioned in the game thread, nothing good can come off of that. "Going up hacking" late in a game is a foolish strategy that someone like Delmon Young or Gomez would employ, Mauer took what the pitcher gave him, got on base and extended the inning/game. He also had Josh Willingham and his .950 OPS on deck with the bases loaded, give me that match-up any day of the week. People can say "oh, they only needed one run not a grand slam" but that is false as well. It wasn't a walk off situation, it was the top of the 9th, the Twins needed as many runs as they could get. The sad thing is the rubes will eat this crap right up and we will start hearing boos again at Target Field since "Mauer doesn't care" or "Mauer isn't man enough to swing the bat" or "23 million derp derp derp".
  18. 15K/9 so far, but the naysayers keep screaming: "Low Ceiling!" I hope they're proven wrong. As in the above quote, wha't not to like how he's handling himself so far? i don't think anyone is saying he has a low ceiling, just that there's not a lot of projection on the frame. two different things. berrios has no.2 starter potetntial. Basically this, if he did happen to have a lot more projection on the fram we would have been talking about an early 1st round pick instead of a supp round pick. Hopefully he can become a special player for us, but there is a long ways to go obviously.
  19. I can. Willingham:150 OPS+ Morneau:122 OPS+ (.947 OPS over last 35 games) Mauer: 139 OPS+ Doumit: 125 OPS+ There is zero reason to be cutting these guys at bats!
  20. I can agree with you and even think it was the right choice. BUT. Things need to get different quickly in the next few weeks. No more playing Carroll or bringing up guys that don't factor in. I want the end of this season to be about finding answers and clearing wasted roster spaces. We need to know who our bench bats are going to be going forward as well as a few of the obvious starting openings. Can Parm play OF? Is some sort of rotation at C/DH/1/Lf(should be Rf possible to get Doumit, Parm, Morneau, Mauer, and Willy roughly the same AB next year? Is Casilla done? Is Carroll worth the price or do we have a cheaper, younger alternative? I want to see guys with higher ceilings. This is the time where losing some games actually helps us. We shouldn't be experimenting in April next year. Why should Carroll suddenly be benched? He is signed through next year and frankly has been the most constitent MI we have had. Casilla is all but gone at this point, and if the Twins want to know if Parm can play OF then they can give him those same innings in the field in AAA as they would in the majors. It's not like you need to have him playing for the Twins to determine how good/bad defensively he is. I also disagree with your "get Doumit, Parm, Morneau, Mauer and Willingham" the same AB next year plan. Willingham has a .950 OPS, under no cicrumstances should he be in some bizzarro platoon, ditto with Mauer and a healthy/effective Morneau.
  21. Please, Bullock was never anything special, people just got way to excited since he was able to strike guys out, even before the Twins traded him his numbers weren't that great and he was walking to many people. Having Diamond as the mop up guy on the 2011 Twins probably hurts his development more than anything, I'm glad he was able to make starts in AAA last year, hard to argue with the results he has put on the field this year. Frankly, I wonder if we should have just tried to trade a player for Santana back in the day instead of having him waste an entire team controllable year by having him in the majors as the mop up guy before he was ever ready.
  22. That was comical, though I don't think it matters much anyways, that ball was hit pretty deep I believe, and Saunders has decent wheels.
  23. RISP? Who the hell cares about that. What is the point of offering at a pitch in a 3-1 count (with Willingham! on deck) if you are sitting on a fastball the whole way? 3 things will typically happen. 1. Swing and miss. 2. Foul boul 3. Poorly hit ball for an out. Of course there is a chance that he could have offered at it and gotten a hit, but Mauer didn't become one of the best hitters in the game by "offering" at 3-1 pitches. This is stuff you learn in any baseball above Little League. The pitcher made a great pitch, it is what it is. Willingham has a .950 OPS on the season, I will take my chances with him at the plate and bases loaded any day of the week.
  24. Right, if they throw you 4 straight balls or even one strike you don't like that's one thing. But to be a franchise player and pass up even swinging at one of the two strikes, the second strike right in the happy zone--only to work a walk... that's way too passive, to be polite, and down right cowardly to be accurate. He was sitting on a fast ball on the 3-1 count, there is no reason for him to swing at a breaking ball there considering all he would have managed to do would be to get crappy contact/foul ball on it. It was a hell of a pitch. The team's MVP who has 31 HR was on deck and had the bases loaded, Mauer had a nice at bat and extended the inning. Him taking a hack on the 3-1 breaking ball isn't the correct play.
