I liked how the Royals got two good pitching prospects while cashing in on Broxton which the Twins should have done with Burton. JC Sulbaran was a good get and the Twins probably could have gotten him and one of their other good pitching prospects while trying to package Span and Burton. The A's are another team that I like what they have been doing and how they replenish their system time and time again. Two years in a row now the Twins sat idle. If Ryan goes.. I would hope they consider getting Beane's underling David Forst a call.
Cards acquire Mujica for Zack Cox. Cox is a notable prospect and Mujica like Burton has had injuries in the past. Twins definitely should trade there relievers while the market is hot..
Any of Cingrani, Sulbaran, or Lotzkar would be really good. Doubt the Reds would deal Didi Gregorius, but maybe they might be desperate enough. also would like to see twins pry off the reds Kyle Waldrop
Ray's hitting .229 ,but his bat wouldn't warrant a promotion. yet his versatility could be useful as a back up in New Britain. either way it would be best to find a way to bump Roberts even if it'd mean releasing someone.
he needs to move up and get tested more. maybe try and bump up Lance Ray to AA and see what he has and shuffle some chairs. I like Roberts obp skills and base stealing abilities. probably a bench guy but he could be an everyday player on a bad team.
it's the same as last year pretty much. was hoping the Twins would have traded for rebuilding instead of letting guys go. The Twins are either overvaluing their players or bluffing on asking prices right now.
idk why the Giants would want Morneau when they have Brandon Belt, but apparently Bochy doesn't like Belt.. I don't know how much the Blue Jays would want Morneau, but he would be an upgrade over Adam Lind.
i commented on mlbtr that the Twins should go for a package with Carlos Triunfel - think he can be an everyday starter at SS with a decent bat, Brandon Maurer - good pitching prospect(Maurer to Mauer..), then two other pitchers.. if the Mariners offer Paxton though I'd hope Ryan makes that deal in a heart beat.. Part of me rather keep Willingham for next year because I feel the Twins need him to try and contend next year
I'd like the idea of getting Guthrie.. I'd really like getting Brandon McCarthy. McCarthy gets grounders and would do well in TF, only problem though is that he's injury prone.
Angel Morales was went 2-3 w/ a 3b and 2bb. Morales has been getting on base decently this month .350+ obp. Got to wonder what happened to him this season though, probably was playing through an injury. it sucks though because his overall stat line looks bad. He's a 6th year free agent after the season ,but i hope they bring him back because he still has upside and if his walk drawing ability sticks he'll be worthy to keep.
Good day for Pinto today, 9 hrs in a tough league for hitters. Pinto should get a little more attention. I don't want to think he's old for the level since he's from my birth year(1989). Hope he gets promoted soon to see how he does against more advanced pitching at this stage.
Gut reaction was let down when i first saw the trade, but i've grown more optimistic. Both guys may end up being serviceable players. Escobar can bring value with his glove alone ,but if his hitting won't get better he'll be just another rally killer easy out. Hernandez could be a decent back of the rotation guy or good lefty reliever. They could have done worse than this trade.
Ford was doing really good in the international league, was wondering about this yesterday if he'd get a chance. Feel good story for him getting an opportunity. gotta wonder now where Dustin Mohr and Mike Ryan are..
Astros just got Bobby Borchering in a trade for a mediocre 3b Chris Johnson.. I liked Borchering and hoped the Twins would have drafted him a few years back, although now Borchering doesn't play 3b anymore and is probably a 1b. there are probably plenty of teams needing role players and have prospects that have fallen out of favor with some upside still.. just got to wonder. Danny Valencia could maybe net one of those types if a team knows how to use him as a platoon hitter against lefties. like the A's.. Carroll was coveted a little by the Nationals.. have to wonder if that could be a possibility..Carroll isn't important to the Twins going further.
Tyler Jones is one of my favorite pitching prospects right now. 11 k's in a game is a pretty good performance for anybody. Read that he's just a fastball slider guy who may end up as a reliever but is a sleeper type who could be more. i'd like to see some other guys promoted before him ,but he could use some more challenge.
Sickels was a lot more optimistic about pedro hernandez, saying he could be a possible 4 or 5. main thing that makes hernandez likely to fail though is the lack of strike outs. if he develops into a high leverage reliever though that's decent value. Escobar's crappy hitting worries me though, he might be another easy out-rally killer. I think Florimon might be ahead on the depth chart and Daniel Santana is coming along. Another thing I hate is that twins might be done trading now.. that'd be crappy work from Ryan..
The Twins could probably get Ivan Dejesus for cheap from the Dodgers. Former top 100 guy - SS, not sure how he is supposed to be with the glove. He can probably compete and take Casilla's job. Has a decent bat as well.
Wish he could draw more walks but i think he's upped his walk rate this season? He seems too make enough contact though since his average has always been good. he also has a good arm in the outfield? His swing reminds me of Kubel. I still think Hicks, Buxton and Kepler would be ahead of him because of defense. Also Arcia struggles hitting lefties
The Reds seem like they might be the best trade partner for Span at the moment. MLBTR had something on it. Would be great to get Either JC Sulbaran or Tony Cingrani in a deal and if they'd add in Didi Gregorius that'd be ideal.. Reds will prob want to buy also so they can try for a world series run..
