I wouldn't mind seeing the Twins pick him up. While I hate to give up on Valencia already, I think it's becoming increasingly clear that he is not a starting third baseman in this league. The Twins need to at least try to find a competent player to fill in at third until Sano is ready for the big leagues. Is DeWitt that guy? Who knows. What we do know is that Valencia probably isn't.

I've always wondered the same thing. I live in Seattle, so I try to go to make it to Safeco whenever the Twins are in town, and it seems like they lose nearly every game I go to. It could just be that the Twins don't do well on the West Coast, period. But you're right, they should still have a better record against some pretty miserable Mariners teams in recent years. -
Why isnt Willingham hitting cleanup?

I think it's a fair question. Morneau doesn't appear anywhere close to regaining his form. His swing looks hideous right now, and he constantly waves at pitches nowhere near the strike zone. Now, that's not to say he won't get his timing back at some point this season, but right now he is basically an automatic out. Willingham is killing the ball, so it would make a ton of sense to move him up a spot. But in the end, this will never happen because Gardenhire is more worried about hurting people's feelings than he is about winning games. -
I absolutely agree with cr9617. Mauer's contract is arguably the worst in the history of professional sports, and it's becoming increasingly difficult seeing the Twins ever winning a championship with him on the roster. You just don't see too many elite teams paying $23 million a year to a first baseman who isn't going to break 10 homers or 90 RBI in a season. And I'm sick of hearing the "Target Field isn't hitter-friendly" excuse. Plenty of players have had success hitting the ball over the fence there, and most of them make a fraction of what Mauer makes.
