    Very tough play. Only a great defensive SS makes it. He didn't. I didn't understand Dick's fawning and drawn-out adjective. It was merely a play not made. Nice try, but insufficient arm compounded by a double-clutch made it impossible.

    Where it comes to reviewing tags on the bases, I was initially persuaded by the arguments that baseball has never nitpicked whether a guy's foot came off the bag by an inch, and why waste time by stopping the game to make a picayune call reversal. But you know what? I think the quality of slides has improved perceptibly during these past few seasons. If you enforce the rules, players adapt, sometimes for the better.
