  1. I'm sorry, I d... oh, I get it. Tore it up 18 months ago skiing, got the ACL surgery, it's never been quite right, and it looks like the meniscus didn't mend itself so they're going in for a look. My wife babysat the last time, this time I'll go down there and help out until she feels well enough and/or is sick enough of me to send me back home.
  2. I can't keep up tonight. Got word my daughter is having knee surgery this Friday, so I may be scarce for a week or more.
  3. Do we attribute the run to me as well, then?
  4. Please explain the other fifty. / edit - our posts crossed in teh intertubes
  5. A leadoff walk. Should be a big inning.
  6. If Walters is this season's Diamond (in the rough, hyuk yuk yuk), it won't be all that much like Diamond himself - a 28 year old coming into the season with 100+ innings of 6.00 ERA after having been granted free agency the previous two winters isn't a good bet to suddenly have found himself. If he did, on some other teams you would suspect PEDs or an illegal pitch; things the Twins aren't really known for promoting or harboring. Can always hope for the best of course. "Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you If you're young at heart..."
  7. My guess is Gardy would be running him out there every day, assuming he was putting up acceptable numbers (Dozier = acceptable for instance), and shuffle the lineup to put someone else at leadoff (Dozier for instance, again).
  8. I suspect this is Gardy's reasoning. Not some kind of superstitious thing like wearing the same underwear during a winning streak. Just a conviction that this is what's best. When it goes well, this is the Gardy I like - though I'm willing to second guess when it doesn't go well.
  9. Except maybe against lefties, looks like Gardy's settled on his starting lineup. Platoon at third base to lead off, then same as yesterday. I kinda like it.
  10. The sound is so bad on all three that I can't choose one that is "better" than the others; a fourth and better option needs to be found. It may be that the microphones aren't at fault, but the phones (Skype, cellphone?) being used. I like the shorter format. While I respect the content being delivered, I have rarely listened to the long podcasts offered in the past; if I have that much time to spare, I'll probably catch up on Tarantino's movies instead. And frankly, when I have listened to the longer format, it felt like it could be tightened up, with too much of a feel of buddies shooting the breeze together.
  11. I love the guy to pieces but the phrase "small doses" comes to mind.
  12. They could get brave and do without the services of their third catcher and sometime outfielder Chris Herrmann.
  13. For later reference:
  14. Yes. There is that approach, too.
  15. I think he meant Tony Oliva. Him versus Mary Ann would be a tough call.
  16. There is a site that computes this more completely, because when you are behind (say) two teams and those two teams still have to play each other then one of those teams will win some games and you're worse off than you thought. RIOT -- Major League Baseball -- By their logic, last night the magic number to make the post season is 100, and 106 to clinch the division outright.
  17. Certainly not telegenic, so sure, we'll go with that.
  18. In terms of the Science of pitching, Diamond is to either Koufax or Drysdale approximately as Phil Niekro is to Diamond. / in terms of results, Terry Felton comes to mind
  19. Yes. I need to know his opinion on the Ginger vs. Olivia debate, for instance.
  20. That gives Perk 34 SO for the year. The lead looks insurmountable.
  21. Thunderstorms in my area, and lost my internet several innings ago... been using semaphore and carrier pigeons ever since.
