  1. The other time I remember reading about Casey Fien getting the save he pitched two innings - is that common for him or for AAA?
  2. Here: http://www.mlbdepthcharts.com/2010/08/tommy-john-tracker.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_John_surgery#List_of_notable_baseball_players_who_underwent_the_surgery I don't think it is a unique problem to Twins pitchers, I think we just had a rash of them in quick succession - Liriano, Nathan, Gibson, Zumaya and now Scott Baker..
  3. The tricky thing about Free Agents is that a lot of teams are now locking up their young talent before they get a chance to test the market - (not to mention the fact that the Twins are rarely active Free Agent buyers). http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/04/2013-mlb-free-agents.html Looking at the potential 2013 free agent class, there are some options, though I would be surprised if the Twins were in on any of the big arms.
  4. Realistically, what should be expected from Valencia at this point? Looking at Baseball Reference, there are some interesting comparable players through their age 26 season (so, through 2011 for Valencia, not including what he's done this season). Of course his career could be totally different from any of these guys, but it seems like his ceiling is probably a guy like Aaron Boone, but more likely he'll be like a less powerful Leo Gomez or a more powerful Tom Brookens. If he has the potential to play as well as Boone (a little better than replacement level), do you keep him?
  5. on the radio Provus mentioned that Swarzak should be available out of the pen if needed on Sunday to help out Liriano. Hope that's not necessary.
  6. not to mention Fernando Rodney - his stuff was filthy.
  7. yuck. Gray is not pitching well again... edit: and somehow they wriggle out of it.
  8. Do you walk this guy in this situation? edit: .... yeah. you can't predict that outcome, but why give them a free baserunner in that situation?
  9. if there is such a thing, this has been a vintage Pavano performance so far.
  10. great at bat for Morneau - come on Doumit!
  11. REALLY nice work to turn two there, keeping the Rays off the board.
  12. nice work to turn two there, keeping the Rays off the board.
  13. Lots of Strikeouts early by Pavano . . . that's promising!
  14. hey - I was sort of right - it was definitely a guy no one suspected would throw a no-hitter!
  15. How much input does Gardenhire have into who is called up / demoted? Shouldn't it be the GM's call about who the personnel is at each level, then the manager's job to use them? I'm sure the manager has the ability to suggest moves and provide feedback, but Terry Ryan would have to agree that a third catcher is the best move in order to make it, right?
  16. Would the Twins ever consider moving Liriano to the bullpen? I was at the game last week against the Angels, and he certainly looks good for an inning or two.
  17. It's only getting rougher from here - not looking forward to reading the recaps of the Yankees games.
  18. Wow, Denard is on fire this week.
  19. oof. Tough break for Hendriks
  20. Probably the best start this year by a Twins' pitcher, right?
  21. yes, definitely the rain.
  22. Can we blame the lack of offense on the rain if we don't score today?
  23. listening on the radio - funny anecdote from Gladden about Kent Hrbek referring to foul balls into the dugout as "Ugly Finders" - specifically that the foul balls would hopefully hit the tough lefties that Hrbek didn't like to hit against. This came up because Tigers lefty starter Wilk was knocked out of the game yesterday by his teammates' foul ball (Prince Fielder) into the dugout.
