  1. Bernier wasn't added to the 40 Man, was he? I read that his deal was a minor-league deal, but the Rochester article says he "still has options remaining" - I'm guessing those are personal options as opposed to contractual options? http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/extra-bases/2014/11/19/red-wings-star-doug-bernier-re-signs-with-twins/19284749/
  2. He was working for Cleveland in 2014, similar to Molitor's work with the Twins before becoming a ML bench/baserunning coach. Willis was a roving pitching instructor for Cleveland last year. Both stints as pitching coach were under Eric Wedge. When Wedge lost his job in Seattle, Willis left the Mariners too.
  3. Is $10MM a year for Billy Butler an overpay? I think it's probably about right for a free agent acquisition. Not sure that Butler will live up to that number, but who knows?
  4. There is some reason to believe that he'd get the green light and some good baserunning instruction in Minnesota.
  5. "Put some avocados on that Country Breakfast, we're going to California!" Seems like a classic Oakland DH, though an older, more expensive version. He doesn't hit for nearly as much power as, say, Frank Thomas or even David Justice, but he does get on base. Billy likes bases on balls!
  6. Cardinals fans on MLB trade rumors don't think Bourjos is worth much. One mentioned Travis Harrison could be a fair trade. Another mentioned Stuart Turner. Harrison for Bourjos would be ok with me...
  7. Is there a consensus about who those two candidates are? Don't say Brian Duensing.
  8. Have the Twins been connected to anyone else's minor-league Free agents? I no nothing about most of the available players, but the Phillies, for instance, recently added a small army of minor leaguers from outside their org (including familiar face Darin Mastroianni).
  9. The other thing to consider is that Mason might not know why - The Cards and the Cubs may not have told him... Why did the Twins let Gary Lucas go? It seemed to Twins Daily posters that this was not because Lucas was a bad coach/instructor... I think Mason's past experience in the St. Louis org is a positive thing. If they let him go becuase he was bad at his job, I think he would have had a harder time finding a new gig. It seems like he wasn't out of work long and the Twins were happy to have him in his current position..
  10. = a joke... Wasn't a serious suggestion.
  11. So... The Braves need a RF - how about Arcia for Shelby Miller?
  12. I agree that it's probably not a deciding factor - but I'm guessing that no pitching coach at all is a bigger issue than it would be if Rick Anderson was still the coach. A guy may not have an opinion on a specific coach, but they might be hesitant to sign because they *might* hate the coach that will eventually be hired. It could be Morris, Blyleven, Dick Such, Ron Davis, or John Rocker already hired to the position and a guy wouldn't care that much, but not knowing who it could be might give a player pause.
  13. Say.... Will the Twins name the new pitching coach or sign a FA pitcher first? If you were a Free Agent pitcher, would you be interested in signing with a team that did not yet have a pitching coach?
  14. So... unless it's an offer that's gonna get somebody fired, I'd rather the Twins keep Plouffe for 2015.
  15. Oh - I agree - I should clarfiy that the Hardy acquisition was only bad because the Twins didn't keep Hardy for more than a year. I was really excited that the Twins acquired Hardy and befuddled, flummoxed, and bewildered that they shipped him out the following season.
  16. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xsolbe2dCLY/Uy9XS84gMhI/AAAAAAAACEo/DoI-URCb5po/s280/4.jpg "Can you hear me now?"
  17. I think it's pretty common for prospects to be overrated for one's own favorite team, and underrate another team's prospect. Stewart seems to me like a better prospect, but I might be overrating him and underrating Jenkins. My thought with Wheeler was that he was pitching in the same league as Jenkins this year and was about the same age, with kinda sorta similar stats. On a closer look, I would side with the other comp of Cederoth or another guy, like, maybe Mason Melotakis (before his recent TJ surgery news). In any case, I think the Twins weren't really in the Heyward Sweepstakes, and that's ok. It would be great if the Twins can find an OF that can make up for the last two years of bad defense and mediocre hitting. They weren't likely to give up Kohl Stewart (or Melotakis, or Cederoth, or Berrios for sure) to get Heyward for a year, and there's no certainty that they'd be able to retain Heyward beyond that. Dodgers, Red Sox, Saint Louis, all seem to have a surplus of bodies that could be MLB outfielders in 2015. Maybe there's a match there for the Twins...
  18. On mlb.com, he's already been moved to the Braves' list - he's #7 on their top 20 I don't know if he's still considered top 100 overall anymore - he was #94 in 2013 from baseball Prospectus, #94 in 2012 from Baseball America....
  19. Will the Pirates make the playoffs for a third straight year? Are they taking a step forward this offseason, or have they taken a step back? Not saying they should have given 5 Years and 80+ MM to Martin, but I think it will be tough for them to get in again this year. Maybe they pick up another SP, and at that point I could see it. Even with that, they probably need to supplement a little more offense than they have now. I think for the Blue Jays, it's pretty encouraging that they went out and filled a need. The Jays still need to address the holes they have in the outfield, but they have to be happy to have Martin (at least in the short term).
  20. I bet it will be a nice christmas (or boxing day) at the Martin home this year. I feel bad for the Pirates a little bit, because they are going to have a tough time of staying in the NL central conversation if they can't replace the guys they lose. I'm not sure that A.J. Burnett and Cervelli are going to be enough to make up for Martin, Liriano, and Volquez all departing.
  21. Who is a good comp in the Twins' System for the minor leaguer Jenkins that the Braves are getting? Would the Twins have been smart to trade say, Kyle Gibson and uh, Jason Wheeler (fort myers Miracle LHP) to get Jason Heyward and Jordan Walden?
  22. Yes, I think an extension for Heyward makes this a great deal for St. Louis - I think it was already a pretty good one for them.
  23. Seems like the Braves could have gotten more than this for Heyward, they also gave up a good RP. Do the Braves need starting pitching this badly?
  24. OK! Raise your hand if you saw this coming.... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/braves-cardinals-trade-jason-heyward-for-shelby-miller.html
