  1. It's a fun thing to speculate, and personally I hope at least one of the guys they missed out on was a CF candidate (or at least a defensive whiz in the OF somewhere), but it's probably better for our collective piece of mind that the fans don't know how close the Twins were to getting Brandon Moss to play LF, or getting a pitcher that would push Meyer and May even further away from the rotation...
  2. That's because everyone knows I always want to order the cubano. There's no story there! Yes, the odd non-story is probably a by-product of media asking daily questions and sources having to say something to move the reporter along.
  3. I guess the other part is - does the leak think that by saying the Twins missed out on some players they wanted makes the Twins look good? "Hey, at least we're trying?" I tried to get an unspecified sandwich, but one of the people in front of me got the last one with some ingredient (I won't tell you which), so I am still looking for a good sandwich (of some unspecified variety) . . . Oh - maybe that's it. A not so subtle hint to other teams that the Twins are still looking to make a deal?
  4. Does that seem like his managerial style? I don't know if the manager in Atlanta is the type to platoon guys or if he's in the "veteran presence" camp.
  5. yeah, but the prior year's ranking of 4th was positional : That being said, I think 18th at 1st base is a bit bullish for Mauer - not in terms of his overall value as a baseball player, but as a fantasy baseball 1st baseman, there are categories that you have to count on from that pos.
  6. Braves sign Jonny Gomes - deal inludes a vesting option for 2016.
  7. I think the Mauer drop is more a function of him losing his eligibility at Catcher. He'd still be rated well there. First Basemen typically have a different skill set at the plate compared to Joe, so fantasy owners looking for homers and RBI vs rate stats will be disappointed.
  8. Jim Kaat - for all those Gold Gloves Tony Oliva - "fame" bump for being the greatest Cuban-born major leaguer to date. Graig Nettles - The Third Base position is under represented in the HOF. He was drafted by the Twins, so that's the connection.
  9. The White Sox have just signed Catcher Geovany Soto. He's going to have to compete with Tyler Flowers, Adrian Nieto and others for the starting job on the South Side.
  10. I am still waiting for the Twins to take my idea for a Rocky IV parody with Mauer sporting a lumberjack beard and re-enacting Rocky's winter training montage Up North.
  11. If he is having shoulder issues, that is a bummer. I hope he gets the chance to close out his career on his own terms.
  12. Ichiro may be headed to the Marlins - he's been reportedly offer a one year deal for $2MM Dontrelle Willis has agreed to a minor league deal with the Brewers - The former Marlin has been pitching in independent leagues and has had several stints with minor league teams since his last big league action in 2011.
  13. I bought a ticket last Tuesday - does my name just go on a guest list? the e-mail confirmation mentioned that I would get a second e-mail when the item "shipped" but I don't think there's actually anything being mailed, is there?
  14. Escobar is scheduled to be at TwinsFest, was it maybe team related and not an injury?
  15. I think the best deal is $5 autographs for Berrios! I'm not really interested in dropping a ton of $$ for autographs, though I am tempted to bring my 2014 All-Star baseball and get Kurt Suzuki and Glen Perkins to both sign it. Technically, ambassador Mauer and HR derby Dozier should sign as well. But the ball was spendy enough on its own. . . .
  16. is "The" = "forg" an inside joke of some kind?
  17. Rumors are swirling about the Astros and Colby Rasmus now in the wake of the Fowler trade. Apparently Rasmus is in Houston for a physical and could sign with the Astros soon...
  18. I was wasting some time on baseball reference and was checking out the Twins (That's Minnesota 1961-Present and Washington up to 1961 combined) all-time leaders. Torii has 192 Home Runs as a Twin so far - if he has another year of 17 home runs, he's going to pass our old friend Kirby Puckett on the Twins' all-time list. He needs just 15 to tie Kirby at 207. He's currently trailing Gary Gaetti by 9 homers. 100 more hits would tie him with Justin Morneau at 1,318, passing a few Senators, Gaetti again, and Bob Allison. 18 doubles would tie him with Harmon Killebrew on the Twins' all-time Doubles list If he finds a little speed and manages to steal 8 bases, he could also tie Kirby for steals as a Twin. Hunter is 41 Runs Scored away from Chuck Knoblauch's mark as a Twin. None of these would make him the Twins' all-time leader in these categories, of course. It should be fun to track his progress nonetheless!
  19. Jones is still the Twins' all-time leader for Leadoff homeruns, yes? I would also submit an honorable mention top 5 moments game - he hit two homers (one of them a grand Slam, his first career Grand Slam) in the same game that Torii Hunter and Corey Koskie also had two homers. July 12th, 2001 Boxscore
  20. Already covered extensively elsewhere, but for completeness sake: Max Scherzer signs with the Washington Nationals Yovanni Gallardo traded to Texas Dexter Fowler traded to the Cubs for Dan Straily and Luis Valbuena
  21. Perhaps lost in all the Arbitration news, Nori Aoki has signed a deal with the San Fran Giants to take over in Left Field, it's a one year deal.
  22. The sheer volume of moves being made this offseason (With the A's, Braves, White Sox and Padres being the most active) has been a lot of fun to witness. This most recent flurry of moves is interesting - I hadn't noticed that the A's were looking that hard for late inning relief, but Clippard is a good pick-up for them.
  23. I think he has a long way to go and a lot to prove. There's no question that he was a Hall of fame level talent if the injury bug hadn't bit him. Johan at his peak was nearly untouchable, but that was a very long time ago. A minor league deal with a ST invite is most likely fine. It is a concern to have him taking up a spot that could have gone to a prospect, but the hope is that the Twins org knows about the prospects they have. It would be great if the young guys could spend as much time as possible showing Neil Allen what they can do, he's the guy that hasn't been able to see them every day, and he'll have at least some input into when they get the chance to face MLB hitters. Johan at 86-89 mph means he's not the same type of pitcher we remember. It doesn't mean he can't be effective. And it's just his first start. What was his fastball like last year before his injury?
  24. How's his Outfield Defense?
  25. Yeah, you'd think players that won a gold glove or were named to the All-Star Team would be "appreciated" instead of "underrated." Some of the players that I thought were overlooked actually do get a lot of recognition. For example, before this season, I felt like Jonathan Lucroy was underrated - but then he made the All-Star team and was top 5 for the NL MVP. He's not underrated anymore. Adrian Beltre seems to not get quite the appreciation he deserves, but it's not like he's anonymous either.
