  1. I guess I'm not as fearful of losing my 2nd catcher in the 9th inning as Gardy is. Hypothetically, if Gardy took Doumit out of RF for defensive purposes in the 9th inning of a close game, the game went into extra innings, and Mauer got hurt, the Twins would most likely lose regardless of who was catching after that.
  2. Doumit allowed a runner to go from 2nd to 3rd by nearly throwing the ball into the visitors' dugout. And then Gardy left Revere on the bench in the top of the 9th...
  3. So now we're officially worse than 0-4. I hope Hendriks can keep away from those Baltimore crab cakes this time.
  4. I really don't have a problem with decreased payroll for 2012. In fact, I don't think the Twins went far enough in that direction. I really think the Marquis, Capps, and Carroll deals weren't necessary and the Twins could have been as good without those guys and their contracts.
  5. I would have said a 9 until last year. Last year was really, really bad, and it wasn't all injuries and bad luck as the Twins claim. By August any time I heard the phrase "The Twins Way" I revisited my breakfast. I'm of the belief that baseball has passed the Twins (re - Gardy) by. The Twins are in need of a paradigm shift if they want to be relevant again, and although 4 games is a very small sample size, it sure looks to me like they're picking up right where they left off.
  6. I think David Ortiz would have a monster game.
  7. What I mean is, is it possible that Liriano was pitching way over his head in 2006? Most MLB hitters had never seen him before. We know he put up dynamite minor league numbers, but so did Kevin Slowey, and I don't think anybody expects Slowey to become an ace. So which Liriano is the outlier, 2006 or 2011? I think it's somewhere in the middle, and Liriano was never really as good as his 2006 numbers.
  8. We've seen a lot of Liriano since 2008, and his only consistency is his inconsistency. The only factor that's been the same for that long is the coaches, so they're an easy scapegoat. But I think it's close to time for Twins fans to admit that Liriano may never have been all that good in the first place. MLB hitters hadn't seen him much when he dominated in 2006, but they've caught up to him.
  9. Devils Advocate - is it possible that the Liriano version 2006 was a fluke?
  10. Consider the circumstances of the Bill Smith firing - they fire their GM and replace him with the guy who was GM before and had been in Smith's ear on every single move he made. Then they rehire Smith as an adviser. Even when the Twins did eventually fire someone, they did it in a half-hearted kind of way. I truly believe that on any other team Gardy would already be on the hot seat, but with the Twins, the only one who can make Gardy not the manager anymore is Gardy himself.
  11. I think the outfield defense may be a bit better with Plouffe in right, and I'll take him there over Revere. The only better option is Revere in center and Span in right, but Gardy doesn't want to move Span.
  12. The Twins will make exactly zero trades before the trade deadline.
  13. Even if you have access to the team, you're still only privy to the information that they want you to have. And many beat writers don't say what they really think for fear of having doors closed on them. In many ways I find the "official" beat stories to be lacking in depth and insight.
  14. Game 1 of the 2010 ALDS, bottom of the 1st. Span singles to lead off, and then Hudson sacrifices (!!!!!) him to 2nd. Rally dead. I don't care if Gardy had talked to Hudson previously about not sac bunting early in the game, that kind of **** shouldn't happen.
