Time to let Pressley work things out a Rochester. Hildenberger, anyone? -
I'm rapidly tiring of Rosario's 'swing at everything' approach, and was searching MLB rosters for a veteran someone might want to unload for some salary relief. I'm coming around to the idea that Granite might be our best option. If he can come close to duplicating his .349 career OBP, those table-setting skills could be exactly what we need. Kind of our own Adam Eaton, with less pop & way less K's.

Article: Trust The Process And The Stats
mudcat14 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
People are gonna hate on the contract for the simple fact that he hasn't produced nearly as well since he signed it. In his 1st 7 years prior to the contract, he was a career .327 hitter with an .888 OPS and multiple Gold Gloves. In the 7 years since signing the deal he's a .287 / .777 hitter with every glove made entirely from cowhide.- 75 replies

Article: The Joe Mauer Quagmire
mudcat14 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Let's focus on that. 14 years as a big league, all-star, heart of the order, multiple batting champ, go to guy, and this is his first walk-off homer? Over 6,000 AB's, in more than 1,600 games, and he's never cashed out before? That might in itself be symbolic of the guys true value to the team.- 104 replies

Article: The Joe Mauer Quagmire
mudcat14 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Today's pinch-hitting result is just another example of why it is time to give Mauer his Unconditional Release. Tying run at 3rd with less than two out and he's looking for a walk in order to leave things up to a utility infielder with 2 big league AB's this season. I don't care if it was off the plate or not, it was a 70some mph curveball up, to a hitter who has made a living of waiting back on pitches before committing to the swing. He quite simply didn't have the stones to attempt to put it in play and tie the game. He is not the type of leader our young squad needs to forge ahead. Period. As has been posted, his salary is a sunk cost. No one, repeat no one is willing to take any off our hands. The only real solution to the Mauer Quagmire is Unconditional Release!- 104 replies

Article: Greene Impresses Twins Brass
mudcat14 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think the Twins can't ignore this kid's upside with this pick. I realize they have two additional 'high' picks in this draft, but I hope they don't attempt to save some of their pool money for those picks at the expense of picking Greene. I've only seen limited video of him, but I can't help but have visions of a young Doc Gooden with a TC on his cap. -
Article: Twins Request Final Offers For Dozier
mudcat14 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Been out of the loop for the past several days, so forgive me if I'm echoing other's expressed opinions. But I have zero problem with the Twins holding on to Dozier, rather than accepting an inferior return over fear of his value depreciating. While his economic value will indeed lessen with every game played, I fully expect his on-field production to enhance his worth to desperate, post-season seekers during the 2017 campaign.- 146 replies

Article: Official Winter Meetings: Sunday Thread
mudcat14 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Personally, I hate the idea of including Stewart. I think we're being unreasonable in our expectations for him. He is progressing just fine. He was up to 143 innings pitched this summer, with almost 100 of them coming in AA during his age 21 season. In 380 career innings, his ERA is under 3.00, he allows less than one hit/inning and has only given up 12 longballs. Yes his strikeout totals are less than desired but according to reports, his 'stuff' is still there. I don't think giving up any legitimate arms would be wise for this organizations future. Regardless of who comes back. The Twins are dealing from strength here. The Dodgers need to wow us if they want him. Otherwise he still slots nicely into our line-up at an affordable price. I do however endorse moving him now. I don't think his value will ever be higher.- 82 replies

Article: Pondering A Plan For Jorge Polanco
mudcat14 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I can see not wanting to trade Dozier after the season he had, but is he locked in at 2B? If Polanco can be considered for 3B, why not Dozier? Brian certainly fits the offensive profile of a third baseman, plus is veteran enough that he could probably handle the position switch better than the youngster. -
Article: Twins Trade Deadline Tidbits
mudcat14 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Think he'll need one or two more solid outings to generate much desire. He will easily clear waivers due to his contract. If not, thank you to whoever claims him. I suspect if the Twins are able to move him, they will eat at least half of the remaining salary (which they would gladly do.) -
Top five Twins who could be dealt by the deadline
mudcat14 commented on Jonathon Zenk's blog entry in Talkin' Twins with Jonathon
I forgot to mention that in the cases of Plouffe and Dozier the main benefit would be addition by subtraction. Each have been allowed over 2500 MLB AB's and have hit .245 & .239 respectively. The only advantages they can currently offer over Sano and Polanco, are experience and defense. Their experience has come during one of the worst 5-year stretch's in club history and lest we forget, neither was a defensive whiz when they were first awarded starting jobs. To me, every start and every AB they get is hurting the future of the franchise.- 8 comments

Top five Twins who could be dealt by the deadline
mudcat14 commented on Jonathon Zenk's blog entry in Talkin' Twins with Jonathon
The fact that Abad is only 30 and cheap, in addition to being left-handed and effective are exactly what make him a valuable commodity. He and Nunez would each warrant a valuable, albeit not MLB ready return. Plouffe, despite his decidedly mediocre production and track record could bring a high-risk, high-reward type because he can be non-tendered by any buyer after the season. The only chance of unloading either Santana or Dozier, is if their performance begins to return to their norms. Especially in Santana's case, a financial commitment would be required on the Twins part.- 8 comments

Tonight's line-up has Buxton in, Rosario out. For what it's worth, I see Arcia, Buxton, Mauer, Park, Rosario & Park pretty much rotating at the OF/1B/DH spots, with Joe & Miguel getting the most starts, until further notice. -
I was surprised Kepler got the call. Figured either Beresford or Polanco, with limited IF options on the big league roster.

Article: Trending (3/24): Roster Battles
mudcat14 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Am I crazy, or is there still a chance for Arcia in the starting OF? My reasoning is two-fold. First of all, I don't see the Twins exposing him to waivers or pawning him off for pennies on the dollar. No he hasn't produced much until today's 2-HR outing, but by all accounts he's worked his ass off to come back. Secondly, Buxton hasn't exactly been lighting it up. Any chance he starts in AAA, with Rosario in CF & Arcia in LF? There's no guarantee that Rosario repeats his rookie numbers. If Buck lights up AAA, you have a month to see who's got the hotter hand, Rosario or Arcia.- 42 replies

Article: TD Top Prospects: #7 Jorge Polanco

Article: TD Top Prospects: #7 Jorge Polanco
mudcat14 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What I'm arguing is that his performance over the next 5-years will indeed be superior. In 2016 there would assuredly be a drop-off in production if OPS is the determining factor. Polanco is unlikely to ever match Dozier's HR ability, but how many 2Bmen have? Interestingly, both are listed on the roster @ 5'11" & 200-lbs. Dozier's career MiLB OPS is .779 compared to Polanco's .752. Every Dozier MiLB AB occurred after his 22nd birthday. Polanco has had roughly 200 split between AA & AAA since he turned 22. Isn't it fair to assume his extra-base power is likely to improve as he matures? I've seen Polanco play dozen's of times between his stint in Cedar Rapids (his best MiLB season) and last year on MiLB.com. He has consistently exhibited an ability to make contact, hit behind runners & use all fields at the plate. These factors alone make him a better fit for me in the #2-hole right now between Buxton, Mauer, Sano and Park than Dozier's dead pull hit or miss approach. Maybe Dozier can play 3B. He profiles better at the 6-7 spots in the order. I wouldn't have a problem with Polanco spending the bulk of 2016 in AAA, but trading or relegating him to a utility role once he's out of options in favor of Dozier or Plouffe would be a mistake. With Vielma and Gordon nipping at his heel's, I think 2B is his obvious destination.- 53 replies

mudcat14 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't doubt that you're right about Polanco's production vs. Dozier in 2016. I do however believe that if we look back in 5 years or so, that Jorge's numbers from 2016-2020 will markedly outshine Brian's. As much as I'd love for the Twins to shine this summer, I think most of us will agree that this team is still a couple of years from it's peak with the influx of young talent we are seeing right now. I believe whatever return Dozier would bring in a deal would be much greater than any short term production loss Polanco would create at 2B. The Yankees gave up Adam Warren for Starlin Castro and the $40mil remaining on his contract. Dozier is much more productive and affordable. I'll bet he and Hicks could have nabbed Warren and Garry Sanchez.- 53 replies

My personal belief is that he is the best 2B in the system. Including Dozier. Trade Dozier now and slide Polanco into the #2 hole at 2B and the Twins will be better for it in short order.- 53 replies

Trade Plouffe for pitching and give Sano 3B. Go with an OF consisting of Rosario, Buxton, Santana & Arcia and a veteran signee like Sizemore or Victorino, We have Kepler & AB Walker in the wings and could always make an in-season move if necessary.
