  1. It's good to see Nick doing well. I was hoping he'd get a chance this year. He sounds like a great young kid.
  2. Good for Mercedes...bout time someone manned up and swung and a meatball.
  3. I can barely say "unwritten rules" without shaking my head now, Anyone that whines about people breaking these unwritten rules needs to get with the times. After seeing what a baseball can do to someone's face (kirby puckett/kevin pillar) what are we even talking about. The guy hit a homerun off of a 40+mph pitch off of Willians Astudillo!!!!! If you have any thoughts of contending for anything, division title, playoffs, a world series, you better not be pitching Astudillo....EVER. Trevor Bauer had it right. If you don't like it, play better.
  4. Lacks speed... Tony Gwynn had no speed. He did alright.
  5. I'm not worried about his hitting! From the little I saw from the game yesterday, he needs to figure out how to make a throw from 2nd. It doesn't help that Sano has issues catching and scooping a throw.
  6. I hope Gordan has a good spring and can stick with the team. That young man needs to catch a break!
  7. Meh. He was a fun story a couple years ago. If we are seriously trying for a title we better not be playing astudillo regularly. If we have an injury to Donaldson and our best replacement is la turtuga, we're going to be in trouble. That same logic applies all over the diamond. If it's 1st, we have Kirilloff or Rooker. Outfield help better be Larnach or Rooker. We should be in position to have better prospects fill in in case of injury. I think Astudillo should want a trade to a non-contending team that could use him. Get some at bats with the Orioles and get a payday out of it.
  8. I had already forgotten about that! They should have thrown in a little extra as a make up gift.
  9. I love listening to Keith Law, but some of his prospect takes are not as accurate as his other insights. I think Jordan will be a good pitching prospect but Duran has amazing stuff. I could see why he'd be rated higher.
  10. I'm glad you'd guarantee this won't be the last move. It would be pretty sad if this was the last move since we need a DH, probably another starting pitcher, a utility player, a relief pitcher would also be good....... It's a big list that's still needed.
  11. I'll miss Eddie - He played hard, he was fun to watch, and there was always a chance to see something magical (good or bad). He might not do everything right but a kid couldn't have a better example of how to play the game. He wasn't the most talented but he always gave it his all.
  12. Hopefully we have a Maeda/Graterol pitching duel in the world series. Then both teams can win the trade.
  13. The F.O. has to know something about Graterol that is not being let out. We have already been adding 3rd or 4th starters for depth. I think Graterol getting 60 innings of great high leverage use would be better than 150 innings of 4th starter league average pitching. If we developed Graterol into a high leverage relief pitcher his value would be greater than Maeda. I look back at the Andrew Miller / Aroldis Chapman trades and think we may look back and wonder why this trade was done.
  14. Maybe we all just looked at the word "impact" incorrectly. I was thinking an impact pitcher would be someone of Berrios caliber or better. Maybe the front office only meant the new pitcher will have an impact. Like the new pitcher will impact Lewis Thorpe. Who now gets to start the year in the minors.
  15. I'd rather wait until next winter's free agency at this point. I don't see a trade happening. I do see a couple bargain pickups during spring training. That seems to be the direction the F.O. likes to take. I'd wager our pitching help will be coming mid-season in the form of Alcala and Dhuran, and Kirilloff to add some more punch to the lineup after Buxton is out for an extended stretch (hoping that's not the case).
