  1. So much for the Ted Lilly signing....He just retired. see www.mlbtraderumors.com for more
  2. So we sign Arroyo and trade for Bailey and acquire 40% of Cincinnati's rotation.
  3. on the same mlbtraderumors.com blurb that talked about Pelfry getting the Twins first contract offer of the offseason, They also mentioned that Arroyo was looking for a 3 year 27-30 million. if that's the case why not just sign him up and get that over with?
  4. I think he could be an ok 3rd string catcher to start 5-20 games behind the plate with some back up time as well so no more than 200 innings behind the plate. yes his defense is terrible but he was brought here to be the back up/ almost but not quite platoon, since the Twins don't believe in those, catcher. He'll still get time in RF and DH and maybe some 1B as he'll get over 300 possibly 400 plate appearances this year.
  5. I think he meant .750 OPS
  6. Pinto doesn't need 3 seasons at AAA to improve VS Pinto can learn on a .500 club next year while Sano and Buxton are also getting their first experience up in the majors...
  7. I think that pitch framing could impact 8-10% of the AB which would likely affect 8-10% of the runs scored, It may not change the number of runs scored but change the AB in which the runs are plated, set up, runners advance.....
  8. Signing Navarro means the Twins believe in Pinto enough to bank on him for the future. after the last 2 seasons I see no reason Pinto can not succeed at the major league level. Plus I think Navarro strikes out around 50% less than Saltalamacchia. I think this plays more into the Twins Philosophies. I think the main reason the Twins would be interested in Salty is RH power and he played for some winning teams, but his cost is getting up there.
  9. Salty did strike out in 30% of his at bats last year. just wanted to point that out. seems a bit much.
  10. After seeing the Vargas contract you have to wonder if there is a new trend developing going forward with 2nd or third tier players getting longer contracts at a lower annual average or if the bloated option fee to make for a higher AAV should the option not get picked up. I agree that Kazmir would be a better short term gamble based on talent but Arroyo is still more likely to throw 200 innings next year which is what the Twins are going to value over the talent level. Especially since the Twins overworked their bullpen so much last year.
  11. Salty has experience being on a winner which can hopefully add to the environment the Twins are trying to create on the team next season. The question is will the Twins only sign 1 pitcher as a result and then go dumpster diving for another or will they still be able and willing to sign 2 pitchers this offseason.
  12. The Twins have been linked to Saltalamacchia again today by Cafardo in Boston. I guess now is the time for the Twins to make a move to sign him if that's what they plan to do. If they do that then I will feel better about Mauer moving to 1B as the Twins will still have solid offense at Catcher. Also if they do this the Twins will probably only want to spend on one SP such as Arroyo or Campuano. I would doubt they would sign even both of those 2 and probably someone in the 5 million or below injured bin. That could be why they are looking into Floyd as a replacement for Pelfry since he seems to want more then the Twins will pay him.
  13. I think a three year should result in an average annual value less than a 2 year contract just like the Vargas 4 year contract has a lower value then he could get on a 2 or 3 year deal. I would prefer the 2nd pitcher be a lefty. I am ok with Kazmir or even Campuano. I think these 2 pitchers (Arroyo and Campuano) give the rotation a chance to be average with the bullpen making the overall staff slightly better than average. now if we can get average to slightly better than average offense so we can be a winning team remains to be seen.
  14. This type of deal only make sense if we can keep our top 3-4 prospects out of it. This deal will never happen though because the rest of the team is not going to be up on all cyllindars over the next 2 years while we are intergrating a bunch of new position players. A long term extension would have to come with the trade 6 year 150 million + that would be too cool. In that case I would trade any 4 or 5 pitchers not named Meyer ( Gibson, Stewart, Thorpe, and Eades and Swazak or Pressley) there would be 2 PTBNL.
  15. The Rays didn't fleece Terry Ryan they fleeced Bill Smith. THe only person I've ever seen fleece Terry Ryan is Terry Ryan (when he released Ortiz).
  16. Another way to structure the contract is as a 2 year 24 million with the 3rd as an option with a 4 million buyout or 12 million salary. that would make the contract a 2/28 which is going to be the highest 2 year average he is gonna find or a 3 year 36 million which he is gonna have to be real bad and have internal replacements ready to go for us not to pick up the option.
  17. Also Moyer is another comp for a soft tosser lasting past 40. He is a good comp because like Arroyo he didn't have the 200 inning seasons till his late 20's. meaning he had years to build up his arm and hasn't had too much stress on it. I think he'll last the 3 years, the question is if he looses 1 - 2 mph off of his already slow pitching will he still be effective enough to get the job done. He walks 1.5 per nine innings his strike out to walk ratio is way in his favor. I think he'll be fine.
  18. Also Moyer is another comp for a soft tosser lasting past 40. 19. The homers are not a big deal if they are solo shots. you can limit the runs by limiting walks and runners on base.
  20. And of these pitchers Arroyo is the only one who wasn't hurt for any significant period in their careers. Moyer is another junkballer who pitched till his late 40's. I think Arroyo has a better chance of going three years as his control is pinpoint and Target Field suppresses power against lefties. I would think Arroyo on a 3 year deal will give us around 200 innings a year 10-15 wins and a low to mid 4 era. For the third year when we are expecting to compete I might peg him for more the 4th starter role and make sure I upgrade over Corriea to compensate for this as he will/ should occupy his spot in the rotation that year. Another thing to consider John is that Arroyo like Moyer didn't start taxing his arm with 200+ innings per season till his late 20's.
  21. Jason Vargas is now off the board as he signed a 4 year 32 million contract with the Royals today. Did we miss the whole offseason yet?
  22. Fielder will be good till somewhere between 32-35 and will fall off a cliff talent wise as he has a similar body type as his father and he was essentially done at 33. Fielders contract goes till he's 37. So as long as he can make it to the top end the Rangers will be fine otherwise uh oh.
  23. I think the goal of stating your desire not to renew is to influence more people to do the same. If your frustrated that you pay a lot of money for those tickets and don't see the team investing at what you percieve is an equitable amount back then why stop at cancelling your tickets when you can try to influence other to do the same. That = more pain for the Twins owners. People do this all the time. There are alot of "complaint"sites like ripoff.com for this sort of thing as Word of mouth is the most effective form of advertising good or bad. If the Twins do not spend any money on a pitcher this offseason I wouldn't buy any tickets, if they do I may try to plan a trip to Minnesota to go to a blogger function/ game or 2. I am willing however to watch a free game on TV regardless of what they do which supports the team i guess. So long as the money is not comming out of my pocket.
  24. The Twins really need to go out and bring in a talented player through free agency. We have seen so many players leave, I think it would be good for morale to go out and sign a 30-50 million starter. The money is there and there is so much pent up demand from the fan base to see it, that just needs to happen.
  25. Also the Hudson signing doesn't mean the Giants wont still sign Arroyo too. Also I haven't heard any new rumors out there. Does anyone know when we plan to get around to making offers? or Are we going to wait till the dust settles and go with what's left?
