  1. Its just me... Sometimes you just run across a player that you don't think much of at some point and you can't shake the feeling no matter how well he does after... That's kinda Swisher for me. He had some bad years and I kinda labeled him and haven't taken him seriously since. That's my problem... Not his... Hes been pretty consistent the past few years but i still try to rationalize his numbers with the short porch at Yankee stadium and things like that but his splits dont suggest that it's fair of me to do that. Can Cleveland compete this year? Oddly enough... I think the Twins have more depth on the mound as of right now. In 2012... Cleveland was just as bad as we were and that means they were awful on the mound... Bauer was a fantastic get for them but if Ubaldo doesn't get it together... Masterson, McAllister and Bauer won't be enough... They have nothing after that right now... Someone will get hurt... Ubaldo could suck... Bauer might get knocked around his first full year... They need depth and they don't have any... The offense has a couple of holes but it has potential if Chisenhall and Kipnis start playing to potential... But it won't be enough to over come the Pitching in my estimation. They will be stronger if they can move Asdrubal for a decent pitcher or two and they just might do that. They do have Aviles to take his place and Lindor a couple years away in the shadows. Right now I'd say they will finish last in the Central and I will say 3rd or 4th if they trade Cabrera for Two decent arms.... One arm won't get the job done.
  2. Never been a Swisher Fan... I think the change in home park may end up being a drop in production for him. However... All in all... Choo for Bauer and Stubbs and now Swisher to replace Choo... Good off season for the Indians.
  3. Sure it's possible but they got some tough clubs to overcome in the division... Reds are a nice team... Brewers are rarely pushovers... The Cards are in it every year... The Pirates have some nice young talent. Not to mention... For the Wild card spot they will have to compete with...The giants... Dodgers... D-backs... All trams that can get fat on the Padres and Rockies... also the Braves... Philles... And Nats who can get fat on the Marlins and Mets. Thats a lot to overcome with Stewart playing 3B and Dejesus and Schierholtz starting in the OF.
  4. I see this was directed at Thrylos... But I'd like to play. 2011: At age 25 he hit 23 home runs between AAA and the bigs in a combined 540 at bats. 2012: At age 26 he hit 24 home runs in 422 at bats... 17.6 AB/HR This looks like a trend up during a career prime age. Assuming at least decent health... I think he will have more at bats in 2013 because of the lack of alternatives. I'll say a dinger every 16 at bats... 550 at bats... Run it through this special computer my son brought over to me... Oops... He says its not a computer... It's a calculator... My bad... Punch up the numbers and I predict with a 99 percent chance of being wrong. 34.375 home runs!!! I'm not afraid to be wrong but wouldn't it be cool if I end up right or close.
  5. Thrylos is back... With extra juice!!!
  6. I don't know if anything that specific is easy to verify... But, isn't it fairly safe to assume... That other teams need pitching(bad enough to need Correia) and also safe to assume that GM's (especially Terry Ryan) are not going to throw extra years on contracts unless it was necessary to acquire the guy.
  7. I apologize for the superflous graphs... I can't figure out how to remove the attachments on the bottom.
  8. There is going to be a correlation between strikeouts and ERA. It stands to reason because any strikeout removes the possibility of the normal percentages of bad result from the batted ball. The Law of Large numbers theorum is going to make that happen and we are powerless to stop it. There is a much larger correlation between WHIP and ERA. There is also a correlation between players 27 to 29 and peak performance. That will suggest we field nothing but players in that age range. However... There are way too many outliers to consider when looking at these correlations. I'm guessing that the Cubs have had a better off-season thus far. Finding a guy who gets a few K's is nice to have but it will only get a portion of my attention.
  9. lol.. Gun... You obviously have a strong negative feeling about our Twins.
  10. I think the lesson learned is demand is demand... The quality of the supply doesn't seem to change the demand and the prices go up. I think the only way you can avoid paying these type of prices is to grow your own. Keep that Farm Pipeline churning. The minute it stops producing... you gotta get the wallet out. . I've been a little shocked by the prices this year across the board... But I'm frugal by nature. I really want the new 2013 Dodge Dart Limited... The Customizable Dash and 8.4 inch touchscreen is exactly what I'm looking for in a car because I assume the engine will work and I don't know what to do about it if it doesn't... No matter how much I like it... I'm gonna wait for someone else to buy it and drive it around and lower the price for me. Thats right... I admit... the Dodge Dart is too expensive for me. That kinda eliminates me from be a decent judge on the price of Free Agents. All the contracts are shocking me.
  11. GM's are not going to give an extra year away for the hell of it. I didn't like the 2nd year but there was a reason for it and he just explained why. As much as everyone likes to jump on TR for things. The price of a FA is set by how much others are willing to pay. Trades don't happen simply because you covet a player on another squad. Both GMs have to agree on all trades. Players don't always perform as expected and everybody can watch a player and come to a different conclusion. It doesn't mean he's an idiot if he sees it differently.
  12. They are going after Top Gun for posting breaking news in random threads. I also liked the "MacPherson signing with the Dodgers" post. I may not have known that unless Top Gun posted it in that spot. I don't spend a lot of time looking for minor league moves so his post was convenient for me. I just think of Top Gun as that Scroll on the bottom of the TV screen. It's not the actual program but... Sometimes something interesting off topic comes across.
  13. That's not enough. I'd like at least 40.
  14. I'm not knocking strikeouts. K's do not have to be defended from the likes of me. I love K's especially when there is a runner on third and one out. I know that there is a correlation between Increased K's and lower ERA's... I wouldn't have to look it up to know it... It would stand to reason... because you can just lop the whiffs off the percentages of what happens when contact is made. That isnt hard to grasp. Its an advantage that the low K guys have to overcome. However... Its a statistical correlation with multiple outliers. I guess I should have just said that to make my point... But it was more fun to quote Crash Davis. There are different types of outs. Some better than others... But yeah... An out is an out... Get 3 of them and you get to sit down.
  15. Thats actually interesting. I'm glad you posted that.... Cuz I wouldn't have known it otherwise.
  16. Shane... Thanks for the mention of Calabello... I didn't know much about him and just spent some time reading a couple of articles on him. This is a player I can pull for with everything I have. Has anyone seen this guy play 3B... I read that he was fantastic defensively but he played 1B in New Britain... I also saw that he has some 3B experience. It seems that 3B would be the less cluttered path. He's a great story no doubt... I will be checking his box scores.
  17. **** OFF... Scratch that... Merry X-mas...
  18. OMG... I don't know anymore.
  19. LOL... It's stuff like this that makes Twins Daily such a special place. Good Solid Information... If I understand this correctly... So what you are saying is... There is a benefit to putting the ball in play. Unless it's Ben Revere... With Ben... his ability to put the ball in play doesn't count... I think I understand now. (that was a joke!!!) Another question... When the Batter Steps into that chalk outline thing... Does he have to wait until the pitch is thrown or can he just run toward the base?
  20. In the end... an out is an out... But I love this post... The use of Bartman... Conseco and Seagulls was well done.
  21. I don't care much for the #1 2 3 4 5 designation. But based on it is used. A number 1 is not coming... No chance whatsoever. If Marcum is considered a 2 maybe but I think most would say 3.
  22. This is a battle song Brothers and Sisters!!! Did you ever believe? Were you ever a dreamer?
  23. We need arms but I don't want Liriano anymore... I've seen enough... With that Said... Watch him just dominate as a final poke in the eye to us Twins Fans.
  24. Why Not? Bring in Arms... even if it's an Arm that falls off every once in awhile. It may not be the Mid Level guy that most of us want but there is no guarentee that the Mid-level guy doesn't go down with injury during the season either and our SP needs go way beyond one guy. TR is fixing one thing from last year. We have people to turn to if the wheels fall off of someone during the season... Either through injury or pitching terribly. Hopefully we can avoid the 6 plus ERA guy for long stretches in 2013 because we don't have anyone else to replace him. We can't go through 2012 again. Hopefully this works a little.
