  1. I really don't know... I can only guess... Florimon has been thought of as the opening day starter from what I've been reading. He has never been a hitter... That tells me that the Twins think that Florimon is a defensive wizard because they would go with a better hitter.
  2. That's the only way that I can see it... I'm not blind to all the concerns that many of us have. I seriously wouldn't be opposed to placing a big question mark somewhere in the team logo this year because of all the questions marks that we have at this moment in time. My expectations are measured in my opinion. I'm not going to declare the Twins pitching staff on par with the rest of the league. I simply expect that it will be better through strength in numbers... Or at least Mediocre through Numbers. As long as Gardy doesn't trot a struggling pitcher out there time and time again waiting for improvement from the struggler. If the team is serious about turning to the next pitching option instead... If a goal of average pitching can be produced in 2013 by avoiding the really bad pitcher. The games will be closer... The daily battles will be tighter and then we get a chance to find out what everybody else can do. If the team is fighting for wins instead of the air getting taken out of the balloon early in the game. We will begin to know who can help us and who can't going forward. "To believe is to be strong... Doubt Cramps Energy... Belief is Power" Last year's pitching staff left the team doubting way too often last year. This is how the Twins can shock us all... even me. I'm not betting on a winning record. I'm just hoping for progress and a feeling... even if it's a small tiny little feeling that we can win on any given night because without that feeling... It will be a long year because "Doubt Cramps Energy". I simply choose to believe that just average pitching could have a big effect on the outcomes of our squad. Not looking for a WS Title this year... Just improvement and a reason for the players to compete because it's 4-4 in 8th inning instead of 6 to 1 in the 4th.
  3. Who's the Black guy? Do You mean White?
  4. The thing I like about Jokin is this: He gives me things to google cuz I have to trace down a bunch of his references... There is value in that!!! and Jokin I do appreciate it.
  5. I know that one... "Trees" by Rush... Album Hemispheres 1978... Lyrics by Neil Peart... I didn't even have to Google it. Back to the discussion.
  6. I'm willing to guess that the majority of Spring Training Battle are not battles at all. I think the club pretty much knows who they are going up North with and change their minds in spring on occasion but only on rare occasion. Just a Guess.
  7. You may be right... You may be wrong... It might be somewhere in between... Personally... I can't wait to find out... If I think about April really hard... Is there any chance it will get here faster?
  8. That's a great sentence that is worth considering. When Pelfrey was signing for 4M... Maybe Marcum was holding firm at 10M. I don't know either but I will certainly consider that a possibility to be factored into my thinking. All in all... I can't explain Marcum at 4 Million... I really wanted the guy.
  9. I think North is spot on... Young Pitcher... What he was last year doesn't mean he is gonna be that way next year or 2 years for now. When you are trying to make the majors... You can grip that ball a little tight.
  10. I don't think there is anything blocking either Meyer or May from advancing very quickly if they are lights out.
  11. I wanted Marcum bad... It feels like a kick in the gut to see him sign with the Mets for 4 Million. I had to walk it off. Then you think... He signed with the Mets for 4 Million. 4 freeking million... What about all the other squads? What about the Brewers? It is a fair point. The Brewers have dropped Payroll from 97 to 69 million. They could afford 4 million for him easy and they are going with so so youth in the rotation for 2013 so they need him. Maybe they believe in that youth but having Marcum around for 4 million would be great insurance unless something is wrong with Marcum. The Brewers may have needed him worse than the Twins do and the Brewers didn't offer dollar one. I read articles saying Marcum would like to return to the Brewers so it wasn't Marcum not wanting to return. The Brewers kicked him out the door for seemingly no reason. I would love for the Twins to roll the dice here but there is much more to this story.
  12. What you just said... Should have been followed by a Big Voiced Guy... "Watch the 2013 Season on MLB.TV... Baseball Everywhere... Go to MLB.com and sign up Today" (Fade to Black)
  13. You and I are just going to disagree on everything obviously!
  14. I think it's a more accurate comparison to be a Parent of a child that is getting into Bar Fights at age 12. Screaming at the top of his lungs in the supermarket that he wants Milk Duds while setting his sister's bra on fire and crapping behind the fridge where no one can see it but everyone can smell it. The parent sends that kid to Juvie and changes the locks on the doors and picks up 3 or 4 new kids who are all fairly well behaved but struggle from time to time with advanced math. My comparison is the most accurate!!!
  15. Your Kids are gonna turn out great!!!
  16. I've been reading Seth's stuff for awhile. I probably read one of his first blogs... its been that long... I think the reason I spent as much time reading his blogs was his sense of the ballplayer and I think I watch baseball the same way that he writes. I don't know but I always felt kinda connected in that way. I've never been to a minor league game but I've learned to rely and trust what Seth writes about them. His passion for the players is second to none. The main reason I trust Seth is this: I know that Seth isn't going to throw a player away to make a point. I believe that Seth doesn't see the numbers produced by players as much as he see the player themselves and I respect that and feel the same. These individual stories and the struggle to make or stay with the big club is reality TV at its finest. Each player... an individual fighting for a career... I really have hard time being hard on a player because of that. I understand the reason for the comments and its ok but I will always side with Seth on issues like this.
  17. Depends on where in Idaho... The biggest city is Boise and it's Seattle Territory... The Mariners are probably the team that will be on every night to watch. They got the majority of the state... Only the South Eastern Section that Juts out below Montana isn't exclusive Seattle territory for Media Rights... That is Colorado and Seattle Territory and not many people live there. Apart from the TV Rights... Team against Team... Seattle would be my choice... They have better uniforms and Seattle is a pretty cool place to visit and as Jeremy said... Young Prospects that could give the organization a pretty big boost going forward.
  18. It's one of those situations where I hope that A-Rod loses the Money and the Yankees still have to pay it. I'd love to figure out a way to make them both choke on the contract. With all of the supposed investigation... MLB has to know a lot more than what has been released thus far. I agree with Parker... Got to be more to come.
  19. Sign him... I reallly don't care how many arms we have... The quality angle can't be played at this point... The Quantity angle is the only chance for decent pitching and I think it could... could... could work. Sign more don't put the pen down.
  20. I hear ya Jokin... I'm not convinced that Mauer with 23 Million hanging on him will fetch much. I don't know for sure... But I gotta think that 23 Million a year will lower the return significantly. I kinda lean toward the rebuild you are talking about but I think that rebuild would have to be done with Mauer on the roster.
  21. Always gonna be memorable when you almost make a call prior to it happening.
  22. I'd love to argue this point... But I can't... I think it's on the nose and a completely fair comment. I don't know what the reason is either... But after this much time... You'd figure that we would have drafted and developed something... Even by accident. I hadn't really thought about it until this thread... The Twins have not drafted and developed a solid SS... ever? My god... Is there a Solid MLB SS that I'm not thinking of that was drafted and developed by the Twins but traded and did good things for another squad?
  23. So many great Hrbek moments but I still gotta go back to... I think it was sometime in August in 1981... Straight from A-Ball I believe... Kent Hrbek in his first game beat the Yankees with a home run in extra innings. Minnesota kid from straight from A Ball? Are you kidding me... Instant Hero for me as a 16 year old. The World Series Grand Slam and his arms up in the air as he rounded matched exactly what my arms were doing when it happened. That was special... My heart was in my throat watching every game of that series. It was huge and I will never take that moment for granted. I also still remember a fairly meaningless home run he hit at the dome in 1987. I had a great first row seat behind the plate. Didn't want the game to end because those seats were so exceptional. Hrbek hit a home run that game that got out so quick... Never seen anything like it. It left his bat and in what seemed like less then a second... the ball bounced off the folded blue seats behind the RF Baggie and back on the field. I swear the ball had already bounced back and landed in RF before the right fielder could even turn around. Still the hardest hit ball I have ever seen and I can still remember it like it was yesterday and it was just a meaningless home run out of many for him.
